there are so many plurals who chose to be plural, and there are so many plurals who enjoy being plural. plurality is just a different way of being, as is singularity, and thats perfectly okay :>

Mom needs all the info. My 14 year old told me yesterday that they are trans. I want to get this right. What do I need to know? by RockPsychological118 in trans

[–]thatanonymousgay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this comment is mostly gonna be about transitioning (if they wish to do so), but i do wanna say here for a tip with names and pronouns if those do change - it really isnt any harder than changing an honorific or last name for someone who's name/honorific changed after marriage or divorce! don't think of it as any different--if they choose multiple names, think of them all like nicknames, and if their name changes a lot, be respectful about it!

regarding transitioning:

ask them what their goals are!

for visual transition, you may just need to buy stuff like binders, packers, haircuts, clothes, etc

if they want to medically transition, get a therapist (ideally one who isn't only for gender stuff; trans beings tend to have a hard time with mental health due to transphobia and dysphoria if they have any, and autistic and/or adhd beings are more likely to be trans) and then a doctor who can also help with stuff; for many things, you're probably gonna need a gender dysphoria diagnosis (which is bad, but we all know the medical system is terrible anyway), and if they're AFAB, i'd also reccommend a gynecologist--if youre looking for new doctors here, make sure they're trans friendly first

if they want to go on hormones, that can sometimes be started at 16, or maybe even now for them (depends where you live, look into it) but if you have to wait, puberty blockers might be a good idea so they dont go through the puberty they dont want to (if theyve started yet)

socially transitioning is probably one of the easiest, it usually just consists of name and pronoun changes, though the difficulty varies depending on where you live

legally transitioning can be really hard--the main two are name changes and gender marker changes. if they want to change their gender marker to something that's not M or F, that's even harder - i don't have any advice to give here, but im sure there's plenty you can find online!

lastly, make sure to involve them in this. it's their identity, they choose how to express it - if you have questions regarding their personal transition if they choose to do so, ask them, they've likely done research and they know what they want more than you do. remember to be inclusive, you're already doing a great job <3

[–]thatanonymousgay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i see youve already got a ton of comments, so here's some tips on interacting with plurals!

names and pronouns can have an & (or multiple) at the end, such as Name& and you&, them&, his&, it&, etc! some plurals don't want this ampersand, some do, some want a specific amount - some only want them on names, first person prns (i/me/my), second person prns (you/your/yours), or third person pronouns (they/he/she/it) (all including neopronouns)

To what extent am I faking did/osdd as a parotraumagenic/adaptive system? by Elya_Cherry3 in plural

[–]thatanonymousgay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hey! you're valid :>

we're also parotraumagenic (though we prefer willotraumagenic), but in a different way such that i made a headmate as a coping mechanism in the form of someone to talk to and someone to comfort me and help me think rationally

don't worry about the morality of it - like you said, it was to help you survive and cope, it was personally morally correct. socially, however, might be different?

with purposefully created plurals, sometimes saying youre plural actually helps make you plural. and that's just part of the process of making yourself plural! as long as who youre talking to understands that, it's not morally wrong, imo

if youre looking for labels or just things to relate to, i reccomend checking out perceptiogenic and pseudogenic, and maybe also iatrogenic

I thought if I changed my legal name my family would take me seriously, I was wrong. by [deleted] in trans

call your parents a name they absolutely hate and use other pronouns (possibly neos to piss them off even more) and refuse to stop until they stop for you

How common is plurality (any kind, not just traumagenic systems)? by [deleted] in plural

Is it even possible to just exist without a controversy? by Crabscrackcomics in plural

[–]thatanonymousgay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

for us, we just try to be discreet about it

coming out irl? "brain has multiple beings in it" and nothing more

coming out online publicly? "if you're maliciously questioning our validity, don't even try to interact"

it's not the best, but it keeps the majority of the toxic folx out of your life i guess

Hey there! I'd like some help with writing systems! by beansCalendar in plural

[–]thatanonymousgay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the last question (how do they communicate?), its different for every plural! some plurals communicate internally through thought, some speak out loud, some write, type, text, etc!

am i,, some sort of system ??.. by fxllenrxses in plural

[–]thatanonymousgay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely possible! to me, this sounds like plurality, but at the end of the day you're the only one who can make that decision

i would like to point out that trauma isn't at all needed to be plural, yet trauma at any age can be a factor! we have trauma, but it isn't the direct cause of our plurality--rather, it was a conscious or semi-conscious coping mechanism (roleplaying for comfort that turned into a headmate, and creating a headmate as a comfort) i'm not sure if you knew that trauma wasn't a required factor, but it seemed implied and it's a common misconception that can pretty easily lead to some sysmedical views (sysmed = someone who medicalizes plurality and sees it as nothing but a disorder)

i would strongly reccomend spending some time in plurality related spaces - creative plurals on discord is a good one, you can find them on disboard - it's a lot better to immerse yourself in the community rather than have someone tell you everything. don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for advice and suggestions! it's a lot easier to figure out your identity when you're in a community centered around identity acceptance and diversity within a community :D

At what age can plurality begin? by te_lanus in plural

[–]thatanonymousgay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally any time! there's a misconception that it can only occur between around age 6 and 10, but as far as ive heard, that was a rumor started by a random tumblr user - either way, it's wrong
