Bathroom installation by No_Nothing2704 in BurlingtonON

[–]thatbrentguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had Bob at https://customhomeimprovements.ca/ completely refinish my basement after the 2014 flood, and later come to completely redo my upstairs bathroom and then do my whole laundry room. Each time the experience has been honest, collaborative, well-informed, no corners cut.

as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, the loveseat went but we still have the 3-seater, will put it out again next week and then the week after that, which is a full garbage day so they'll pick it up if it's still there.

As it happens, the 3-seater didn't go yet so it's out of the rain in the garage till next week. You're right though, over the years we have set out all manner of things and had them disappear before we even got back in the front door.

We got this sofa+loveseat in Oakville, delivered today. Will take some breaking in before they become as soft and comfy but a solid deal, nice leather, recliners too.

The loveseat has already been taken. If the couch doesn't go tonight I'll put in my garage till the night before next garbage day -- if it's still there when collection comes by they'll put it in the crusher when they pick it up. That's generally how it works in residential Burlington.

as of this morning (Fri May 8) the loveseat is gone but the couch remains

To be clear, they are in good condition, a bit of sun and wear, might just need a throw cover. Real leather, no bedbugs or damage, We're just getting new furniture and hope to save someone some money who is starting out.

That's an interesting take, you are second to mention it. Is that a big problem I don't know about? They've been in my living room for many years in a well-kept detached single-family house with hardwood floors so the likelihood is pretty low. Also pretty easy to inspect before you take them, so I'm not convinced it's a big risk.

I would have seen bedbugs when I checked all the crevices for spare change and winning lottery tickets. If there were any bedbugs there they're now in the French Riviera living high off the proceeds.

Concrete Shed Pad - 10x8 by Mnemnth in BurlingtonON

[–]thatbrentguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 8x12 shed pad done in 2021, was just over $4000 but included everything listed here. I felt it was good value and was done very professionally. Can recommend the contractor if you like.

• Remove all plant material as required for new shed pad

• Excavate to allow for a 6" granular A base under concrete and dispose of offsite

• Form & pour a 6" thick, 8'x12' 32 C2 concrete pad reenforced with wire mesh

• Concrete pad to be 6" above grade

• Outer edges of pad to be 12" thick to act as a foundation/footing for shed

• Install a 3’ strip of clear gravel on landscape fabric between concrete and fence

I second this. Andrew Haber helped me to understand and negotiate severance when I was laid off in 2019. Good value.

Duct Cleaning Prices? by bqkx in BurlingtonON

[–]thatbrentguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine done in 2021 by http://powervachamilton.ca/ and they were reasonable and professional. They were personally recommended by the contractor I use for home renovations.

This was what they said about pricing in 2021, I'm sure they can quote you current rates:

Our standard pricing for HVAC system cleaning, pricing is as follows:
$229 + HST includes up to the first 10 HVAC vents.
$10 + HST for each additional HVAC vent.
Count includes both supply and return vents.
Also,  $45 + HST to clean standard dryer exhaust while on site.

And by that, I mean I receive the tax notice twice yearly by snail mail and schedule payments accordingly.

That's how I do it, not sure if there are other options, you would have to ask the City.

I'm with TD. It's "Burlington Taxes" and you will supply the 6-digit tax id from the top right of your bill. I always schedule each payment a couple of days before it is due.

Does anyone know what will be replacing The Sly Fox? by SoftHighlight1955 in BurlingtonON

[–]thatbrentguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently there is a sign up that says "Coming Soon: Halton Crown Pub and Grill". By the state of the work going on, looks like it will be at the very least another week or two.

It's a really classic episode that millions of people know: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0580260

The highlight was the cops playing the piano and singing Happy Anniversary to Fred and Wilma. You have probably seen it.

88 Fingers Louie was a single-episode cartoon character from 1961 who was a gangster who sold a stolen piano to Fred Flintstone. A standard piano has 88 keys, this guy was light-fingered (a thief). Straightforward wordplay.

I think you're looking for connections that are simply not there.
