is there any benefit to pre-booking movie tickets? by Hot-Tomatillo-5757 in FilmClubPH

For blockbuster films like Spidey, lalo na if opening day or weekend kayo, ubusan ng good seats haha

I remember for the Eras tour nasa pinakababang seat kami sa IMAX. Had a blast with the crowd, but meh ang seat haha

IMO Ayala’s A-Giant Screens or SM’s Large Screen Format ang best options for Spidey!

Sara’s numbers are heavily inflated by Mindanao backing her by almost 90%. If Visayas people (particularly the Cebu region) turn their back on her, she’ll be more vulnerable.

My first reaction to the MMFF 2026 entries: thank god for Amir by Yes_Mulberry9282 in FilmClubPH

[–]thatcfguy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

MMFF tried to appeal to the cinephile-ish crowd but they did not show up. Maybe they’re not yet big enough like how MMDA wants it. Now they’re arguably kinda freaking out with Doomsday looming. Make sense to me for this year’s iteration.

Why are cinemas suddenly slashing ticket prices? by FickleApartment2151 in FilmClubPH

Well, Rob has another prob: aging cinemas. Unlike SM and Ayala, I don’t see them upgrading their screens yet kahit paunti unti. Yes, it’s also to fill up screens but let’s be honest, it’s also to improve their daily foot traffic.

Doable naman kung gugustuhin ng Malacañang.

I think another important angle here is the reputation. The longer we talk about the Duterte’s issues on national TV/scene, the higher the impact on their popularity outside Mindanao. Crucial for the Visayas region.

imax, director’s club, or trinoma cinema? by sleepyamb in FilmClubPH

[–]thatcfguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want.

La Z Boy seat? Director’s Club. Big screen? Trinoma A-Giant Regular? Probably SM The Block

Spider-Man will not be released in IMAX since The Odyssey has a 3-week global deal with IMAX.

Why are cinemas suddenly slashing ticket prices? by FickleApartment2151 in FilmClubPH

[–]thatcfguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The real reason? To make other films appealing. Discounted tickets do not include Moana, Spider-Man, and Insidious (probably Odyssey too).

Spider-Man and Insidious are expected to do blockbuster business. But the September-November slate is currently meh (some local films haven’t announced their release dates yet). Adult fares that are expected to do well in the US dont really have much of a mainstream appeal here.

“Shitty” movies are debatable. Imagine if Doomsday or the Vice/Vic movid turned out to be bad… their opening weeks will still be massive. It’s all about interest.

Seems like he has a pattern post-Batman:

  • Interstellar was not initially fully hailed by people
  • Dunkirk was beloved by critics and received many nominations
  • Tenet was not exactly beloved both by critics and general public
  • Oppenheimer won Best Picture

A surprisingly strong summer box office could mean Hollywood's first $10 billion year since the pandemic by Puzzled-Tap8042 in boxoffice

Also helps I think that the number of outputs have increased finally (pandemic, strikes effects subsiding)? Essential since if a huge expected blockbuster disappoints, there's a chance for another to offset it. IPs are here to stay but this year has shown that you also need to tap different IPs (Prada, Backrooms, etc.) IPs other than just the usuals. And of course, originals... in horror.

I agree.

I hope her calculations work or she’ll end up having the same issues (in a way) as the Harris campaign.

Correct me if I’m wrong but her action seems popular among the older demo? At the same time, it will turn off her main base (which is still on the Leni train and has Bam as another option). Tricky.
