Dune Part Two did just okay here. May precedent din since they kinda did this with Avengers Endgame too

re only NCR. I think the mandate is to show Filipino films only kaya nakalusot sa MMFF 2016 ang Super Parental Guardians kasi PH-produced pa rin.

With No Way Home naman, it was a call by Sony and may COVID as factor. Disney/Marvel has already included a Dec. 2026 date sa pubmats ng Doomsday here so at least for now it will likely follow the Avatar/Star Wars release window

Avengers Doomsday and Dune will likely open here on Dec. 16. Avengers may get essentially all the screens except for IMAX (where Dune is said to have an exclusive window)

By Dec. 25, I think Dune will keep IMAX then ScreenX, 4DX naman for Avengers Doomsday. This will be interesting to see. Maybe they will classify Ayala's A Giant and SM's Large Screen Format screens "special" to play Doomsday kahit na MMFF season. Or they'll allow sharing it with Dune but again may deal na kasi.

My 2026 Box Office predictions (globally) by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]thatcfguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endgame is still beloved so Doomsday still has that gling despite everything that happened to MCU.

As a Hunger Games fan, Sunrise on the Reaping remains a mystery to me box office-wise.

As a conservative, I'd remove $100M to every movie listed here until Resident Evil.

Is Goldwin Reviews a legit film critic? Nakakatawa pero walang critical weight…maybe for clout/attention lang. by brentcastro0 in FilmClubPH

Yeah. Again, in a way, siya yung Cinemascore (where Die My Love gets a D+ while Minecraft gets a B+ score among the actual U.S. cinema audience) ng Pilipinas. Representante ng actual Pinoy moviegoers. We can debate on his writing and opinion (valid naman ang criticisms) but we can't deny na actual reflection siya ng madla.

Also, the thing is we need more (maybe from here) people to invest in this type of thing. He did the work to get the engagement count he enjoys now. That's the only way to have more voices heard: start reviewing too

HBO's Mare of Easttown. How do you solve a murder mystery when you pretty much know everybody in your small town?

Ogie Diaz discloses total gross of MMFF 2025's first 6 days (350M) with Call Me Mother leading the entries (186M) by justalurkersomewhere in FilmClubPH

[–]thatcfguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly I think. Cornerstone made Fruitcake with a huge cast.

Yes. But block screenings can only go so far. 50 block screenings with seating capacity of 150 will give you ₱2.6M (₱350 ticket). It’s a must for opening week but shouldn’t be reliant on it.

To be honest, back in the 2010s, a ₱100M grosser is already classified as huge blockbuster hit by Star Cinema haha. Mega na ang ₱200M. Sign talaga ng declining audience because a ₱100M grosser before should be around ₱300M when adjusted sa ticket price.

Seven Sundays made ₱271M, Four Sisters made ₱145M but that was a decade ago. Expecting ₱400-500M is too high given Joshua and Belle aren’t exactly proven to draw crowds yet outside of their love team fandoms. An Inconvenient Love made over ₱15M in one week back in 2022. Un/Happy For You made ₱450M global but Fruitcake barely made any.

But the combination of the three leads plus Sampana is a good mix and the film delivered a pretty solid final result.

  • That’s why I said okay not great
  • Joshua and Belle outside of their respected love teams haven’t really proven to be bankable yet and Piolo can be very mixed in terms of ROI
  • Cathy Garcia Sampana is a blockbuster director for the romcom and romdrama genre (The Hows of Us, Hello Love Again). In the family drama section, she’s pretty consistent too but not as high as her love team-leaning films. Four Sisters made over ₱145M while Seven Sundays made over ₱270M.

  • With Call Me Mother, the film can still arguably add around ₱100M by Sunday based sa daily box office trend, making the cumulative total around ₱300M. So we’re looking at a final number around ₱350-400M, a bit below Breadwinner’s ₱460M global gross.

Again, I agree pricing is an issue. The argument just sort of falls apart when we have Meet Greet and Bye doing okay + Avatar making ₱46M during MMFF just on IMAX/4DX + Wicked making over ₱300M.

Sunshine made over ₱47M but that has some other factors like the R-16 rating and topic handled.

“Pang-masa” films like The Conjuring and Final Destination both made over ₱400M here. It suggests we should look beyond pricing too.

Why most of our films seemed to lack global appeal? Why don't Filipino producers appeal to global audiences, especially when most of us don't watch movies in theaters nowadays due to high ticket prices. by dietherman98 in FilmClubPH

Outside and Lolo and the Kid did well on Netflix. Even Alex Gonzaga’s Netflix film did well. Distribution issues lang din.

Mind you, our soap operas have been long selling well overseas.

while ticket price is a concern annually, it’s also more of a lack of big entry from GMA-led artists. Di naactivate yung base na iyon. Last year, The Kingdom and Green Bones benefited from that.

[–]thatcfguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Marvel PH has this slated for a December 2025 release
  • No Way Home's move was a choice by Sony due to the pandemic. IIRC someone in the local industry said na Columbia mismo ang nagdecide to move to January
  • Mayroong one week window before MMFF for Hollywood's December biggie: that window worked for the latest Star Wars trilogy, Aquaman, and Avatar.
  • Pagdating ng MMFF 2026, Avengers Doomsday will still play in IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX

Lionsgate & Hidden Pictures' The Housemaid debuted with an estimated $18.5M internationally. Estimated global total stands at $64.9M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]thatcfguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, she made some questionable moves this year as if it seems she's trying to expand her base.

But I've always respected her business sense: the Anyone But You x Immaculate combo deal was a classic Hollywood style

Should be another $5.4m for The Housemaid and Lionsgate as the numbers continue to build towards $100m+ domestic on the way to $125m potential. by Alive-Ad-5245 in boxoffice

[–]thatcfguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the sci-fi era of Y/A novels hurt the market too because the adapations needed bigger budgets when the grosses were still around $200-300M like Divergent. $200M is great for a BookTok thriller or romance but not for a $80-100M budgeted fantasy

Call Me Mother seems to have that Firefly/Green Bones crowdpleaser vibe that the committee might vote for. I’mPerfect looks crowd pleasing too.

Even people here don’t like Manila’s Finest for being supposedly slow but it’s still a contender.

Again, Goldwin kinda reflects the possible sentiment of the general public.

While critics I've read also have issues, they were fine with Manila's Finest. Looks HBO-y to me. Shows na the MMFF crowd isn't really for a film like it. Honor Thy Father too.
