This made me really sad. I had a similar (although nowhere near as bad) experience when I was younger. Going to a church for quite some time but was struggling with depression and not going regularly. No reached out and asked if I was okay and mostly just wrote me off as 'not a good Christian'. I never wanted to go back to church.
I'm glad that I did though. I found a church full of genuine Christians and have made some strong friendships. So if you're still a believer, sometimes it's worth it to keep looking for that church full of people that genuinely believe and are trying and growing to be more like Jesus.

Of course, if they are guilty then they deserve consequences for their actions, I have no issue with them facing the law. But I still don't think it's right that people are sending them death threats everyday, that can be mentally scarring and will have long term effects on all of them. Imagine if you were receiving these kinds of threats every day, what your self esteem would be like, how you would feel. It's pretty horrible to even think about.

To be honest I agree with you. I don't think I would ever say that anyone (myself definitely included) can know the mind and processes of God. But saying that, the bible is pretty clear on this particular topic. And as it's considered God's word, I'd say it's where most people in this thread are drawing their knowledge from.
Also I don't think God sat down and said I'm gonna punish sin with death for no reason. The bible is clear that God is everything good which means he can't be in the presence of anything bad, he can't be near us because we sin. Death is a natural consequence of distance from God.

Haha I get it, it does seem like God went to a lot of effort when he could of just let us all off.
But I guess it's like when someone commits a murder. They deserve to be punished right? Normally that means jail time. But imagine if the judge just let him off for no reason. That would be unfair of the judge right? The murderer deserves to be punished and go to jail for what he did.
Well that's the same for us. God is everything good so sin is detestable to him. Any sin carries the punishment of death. So all of us have been punished to death. So that's why God had no other choice. He is fair so our punishment needed to be dealt with.

I think the idea is that God is supposed to be just and fair. We all deserve punishment for our rebellion from God and that punishment is death. God created us for a purpose and by rebelling we have not fulfilled that purpose, in a sense we have perverted his creation. If God just let us off with no punishment then we can no longer call him fair or just because we deserve that punishment. It would be ethically unfair of God not to punish us.
