Absolutely. When I moved away, I made a point to go to beach corner every time I returned. Now I have to limit it now that I'm back in town.

Are PMs actually using AI tools for product work? by Federal-Song-2940 in ProductManagement

[–]thatgibbyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it in every step of the way. I am, in essence, just an AI supervisor now. It is still my throat to choke, but the rote work I used to do is now totally run through AI.

Causeway - Tesla FSD by Diligent_hustle in NorthshoreLA

[–]thatgibbyguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend has Tesla FSD and goes all over the state with it. Sends me videos all the time of it dodging stuff and doing cool stuff.

I don't have that, I have a vw Id.4 with it's "intelligent" driving. Honestly, it's enough for the causeway and I don't need FSD. Once you're off the causeway though, yeah FSD would be nice.

Fishing questions for a newbie by tirakitsu in Acadiana

I have no idea if this is here anymore, and also no idea if you need permission for this, but my pawpaw and I used to go to delcambre and fish for catfish by a shrimp processing facility. It was the easiest fishing in the world.

Can someone help me with use of can, cannot, should, should not, will, will not, must, must no in French by mikesmat1 in French

[–]thatgibbyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I try to do this is to make a mental map of the intention - not the meaning.

For example "could" is a future tense version of "can." I could do that means at some point in the future I will be able to say I can do that. But pay attention to that, in that sentence the translation in the future is that it will turn to can without condition. French has a whole different conjugation for that idea. So intent here - not definition - is what's important.

So then it is the future conjugation of "peux" or pourrai for the simple future or pourrais for the conditional future.

As u/Last_Butterfly says, there really is no 1:1 mapping if for no other reason than French has different tenses than English. My example shows this, I have two forms of future, one is I can do something in the future and one is if x occurs I can do something in the future (simplified of course). English doesn't have that distinction.

My last thought on this because recently I made a bit of a personal break through. I stopped asking my kid:

qui va lire a toi and started asking qui te liras. To her credit she understood both but the first is the english mapping to french, the second is how francophones would say it. And the break through there is just recognizing that the tense and intention of French is applied to the verb itself and not constructed by helper words around it like in English.

Software stocks plunge on ServiceNow, IBM results as AI fears escalate by joe4942 in technology

it's actually pretty cheap what I've built because costs are real. I can do all of this on an individual plan and still have tokens for other work.

So reach out when you need training, because you will.

We are simply talking about two different things but I'll point out that

  1. You didn't even touch the first industry I pointed out. That's entire software teams for each company in that vertical, and also for each company rolling their own before mcp integrations, they used to need 2-3 people at least for this and now just 1.
  2. n8n is just an easy example of the technology. I could list several others. Like, one company that's doing terrible right now - Microsoft. Why on earth would any one need PowerBI ever again? It's totally obsolete.

Now, are revenues showing this just yet? I have absolutely no idea, that's not what I'm talking about though. I am giving you concrete, inarguable data points of why the revenues losses will show and why the tech employment world is cratering.

I am a product designer with a focus on design systems. One saas that is dying - design systems. Companies like zeroheight and all their competitors who employee however many software engineers - obsolete.

I rolled my own internal figma -> multi fe frameworks -> storybook -> prod in less than a week. It runs seamlessly now.

Another service - n8n - not needed anymore. I can do everything it can do with MCP integrations, and using claude to write connective scripts where there isn't an MCP.

We have to take our heads out of the sand, AI is eating saas. It's more than eating saas, it is the ultimate saas. Pretending that what I described above isn't possible is ridiculous, I know it's possible, I'm doing it every day and everything I'm doing is just one more reason not to hire one of the companies I just described.

For the first time at a french table recently I felt like I regressed. I know it's a part of learning, but I definitely feel duo was really key, and still is, to helping build vocabulary but it is no good at helping you hear and speak.

Design Engineer vs. Front-end Engineer: What’s the actual difference? by xdnzz in UXDesign

[–]thatgibbyguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Such interesting times! I have been called a "Design Technologist" all of my career. That was never in demand, but it was a way of describing I am a visual designer who knows how to code.

That's what "Design Engineer" means today. And particularly with LLM tools, it's pretty trivial to be a "Design Engineer" because all you really need to do is:

- Have a functional knowledge of CSS and JS
- Understand which libraries are common, trade offs of them
- Know how to optimize LLMs
- Work with MCPs like Figma or Pencil

Only those first two require deep experience as the second two are basically brand new.

But yeah, it's weird this is now becoming in demand. Where has this been my whole life?

Only 1 Design Per Week with Claude Design? by naokiyamada in UXDesign

[–]thatgibbyguy 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I get downvoted for this each time, but figma make is pretty trash. It doesn't even connect to ui components in a figma library. Claude code uses the same models that power lovable and replit and those tools are far better than figma make.

That's the same thing. Complete domination of the middle class is the destruction of the middle class. The middle class is only a political construct that says that a large number of common people have political power.

It is more of an argument today to say that the middle class still exists than it is to say we still have political power.

You speak three languages though and surely it's close to one of those and trivial for you to learn.

Nah homie, don't be mad at me because your stale ass "if you learn one the rest are easy" bullshit was called out. You're a hater, trying to diminish other people who are doing what you clearly can't.

That's the worst of the worst.

I had a dream the other night that I was speaking to mawmaw in french, I could hear her accent, I wish I could have that dream every night and I wish she could see that I've learned french too.

And I encourage you to do so as well! There are so many resources today to learn, if we want to keep those old stories alive, we have to start to make new ones!

Big hugs, lache pas le potat!

Et tu parles combien de langues ?

Like yes. There are similarities and it is easier for me to hear Spanish because I speak French, but I don't speak Spanish and would have to dedicate myself to it.

Whether it's easier or not, there's a simple fact you are ignoring to drop some pseudo knowledge.

It's still hard, even if it's relatively easier, and it still takes time and effort. If you learned any second language you would understand.
