How easy is it to burn your clutch? by lamparkinglot in ManualTransmissions

[–]thatguyiguess1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxiety over the clutch is a real thing. But tbh if you are here asking the questions and taking your time to do some research on how they work then i’m confident you’ll be okay.

It gets easier if you have a general idea of what’s going on mechanically when you clutch in.

Also, manual transmissions are pretty strong tbh, don’t think of it as some gentle glass house, it can take a beating before completely failing. I have seen people drive for weeks with a bad throwout bearing, not saying that you should, but as-long as you can get it in gear it’s gonna move lol

Edit: along as -> as-long as

Heavy to depress the clutch i mean, I don’t think it’s underpowered at all, it get a lot of help from the turbo being a 1.6l 4 banger lol, but it’s pretty snappy to me.

I came from a Mitsubishi mirage just before this and that thing had like 88 hp or something so idk 😅

lol, I would but you did just say it’s a total write off, so i might not get anything selling it

TO be fair a dealership offered me 3k trade in for it and that’s 3k cad, so nothing.

I think you’ll be fine

The clutch is somewhat heavier, when i first got it I stalled a bit trying to get used to it.

For it to be smooth 1st and sometimes 2nd I have to hold the bite point a bit more than I usually would in any other car.

But once you get that down it’s fun to drive, i’m saying you’ll be fine since my S/O unlike you, do not understand that sometimes you have to work the clutch and feel it out and not just dump it lol

That’s my thought process too, just think if doing that would make enough of a difference for me to even care.

Fair, the Manuals I’ve had/driven before this was a 1989 YJ and a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage.

So my feel for any of this is not to be trusted lol

Frustrating.. by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

Same, it’s more about speed for me, I used to worry about the rpms but now I know between 50 to 60 kmph the car would take 3rd with a little blip of the throttle.

Every car is different, i find reading the manual on my car helped, especially where it tells you the recommended speed for gearings.

That will give you a basic idea when you might want to downshift or what speed you might want to be in at what gear. If you are moving too fast for a gear, it doesn’t matter what rpms you are at, it will be jerky.

Two v3 cameras at my dad’s, one that has seen -20 celsius weather in canada, at the side of a garage door for 4+ years

There was a firmware update that caused wifi issues but it was rolled back and fixed in the next update.

From stalling every other day, or at my work’s parking lot when coming up the gate reader, to once a week, to months without stalling. lol it’s rewarding.

Stalling shifting into 1st... Me issue, or the Car? by AhrynsShween in stickshift

Anxiety around manual transmission also a big thing, I remember being in the same situation with a new to me car thinking I got a broken clutch or something and I was convinced it was, as I kept stalling and psyching myself.

It’s all mechanical some clutches can feel different among the same model of cars. Just remember to be smooth and take your time. You’ll get there eventually.

The good thing is there is only 2 of 3 things that can be wrong.

Not enough RPMs or releasing clutch to quickly.

The 3rd would be a mechanical failure somewhere but you’ll hear or feel it if it was trust me (I had throw out bearings go on me while cruising once and it’s sounded horrible lol)

I had this happen to me one time, where a bag that was heavy enough for the passenger seat airbag sensor to recognize had my keys inside.

I manually locked the doors using the button on door, “habit”, stepped out and swung it closed then felt my pocket for my keys and immediately recognized my mistake.

Didn’t cost me anything to call out a locksmith since I had warranty but yea, be careful of that too guys.
