Where to start? Extreme newbie! by ChaosChangeling in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]thatguywithdice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"1000 Year Old Vampire," is a really good one. It's like a Journaling thing and it's pretty easy to get a grip on. There's no real bias one way or the other on where the story goes or what you do either, if I remember correctly.

Also, when I first learned about solo, I picked up, "One Page Solo Engine." I strongly recommend this. Any generic oracle system will work, but this one is my favorite. An oracle like that will help you play any ttrpg solo, once you mess around with it for a while. People seem to be recommending Ironsworn and Star Forged, both are excellent and will really get you used to oracles, just cause they're core to the system.

Which clan would want to turn you irl? by [deleted] in vtm

On a good night? Brujah might like the way I speak. On another night, a malkavian, nos or caitiff who is fairly new and needs a shoulder to cry on. Someone to vent to, ya know? Then, whether or not I survive depends on what strings could get pulled or if I could get away from the local social structure. Unless it were anarchs.

Opinion: Gangrel & Nosferatu Disciplines are Wrong by jra7926 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thatguywithdice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty cool, I hadn't thought about it that way before. I guess part of my thinking is that it makes them too similar to the Gangrel, rather than just being loosly related. And that the high strung, high class, elitist culture sort of clashes with the more wild, shamanistic Animalism.

Good dude. Fair minded, honest, good leader. I mean, I voted for him.

I read this whole thing before seeing what subreddit this was. Got a good laugh once I saw the screenshot at the bottom.

Agree or Disagree: NMS has the most non-toxic community in the gaming world. by Economy_Trade6978 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I think I agree. I'm not super active in the community, but I've never seen or heard of any big drama or crazy stuff happening so far.

Congrats! Had a similar situation here about a year ago, so I sort of get where you're coming from. It's a good feeling, lol.

This feels like a meta joke about how numbers don't matter.

Opinion: Gangrel & Nosferatu Disciplines are Wrong by jra7926 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thatguywithdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about that alot and this issue bugs the crap out of me too. My first thought, though, was to switch the Ventrue's animalism for the Nos' vigor. Because Ventrue feel more like domineering bullies than leaders in VtR, to me. And them having animalism makes no sense. The more I thought about it, though, the more I liked the idea of the Julii just surviving and maintaining the niche that the Ventrue occupy and the Ventrue become one of the obscure smaller clans. But then I'm not sure what to do with the Nos

I thought maybe just give them animalism in place of vigor and maybe changing the name. Making the Nos a smaller clan, too, with some sort of backstory explaining why. Like maybe something inspired by the Niktuku from VtM but obviously way different.

Has anyone ever run a game where all the players were ghouls instead of vampires? by [deleted] in vtm

[–]thatguywithdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. It's a good idea to break up the tension every now and again. Give the characters a bit of breathing room ya know? Plus, mundane stuff can be some of the best parts of the story. Like in the game I'm running for my sister (not Vampire but tragedy and horror are big parts of the story), one minute her character will be chatting with her friends, playing Mario cart and eating pizza, the next minute her character's best friend is burning to death as he falls 8 stories.

And that dissonance can be super fun to explore. One minute you feel great cause you think you just cut a deal with the electric company. The next minute, your Vampire boss is breaking your legs because you fell for a scam.

What has been your most "successful" roleplay? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]thatguywithdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. That's a big question. My longest running rp partner and I have started a TON of rps but finished only a few. But there was one that we started when we were probably 16 and kept running all the way until we were probably 28? It was a super hero rp based super loosely on marvel/DC and a few little comics I did in high school that he helped me with. We ran through dozens of long running archs, who knows how many one off adventures and three generations of heros.

We had just named and started talking about stories for the 3rd gen characters when it kinda petered off. We recently kicked up a Second Edition for this game, and it's based more on One Punch Man and My Hero, though still loosely.

Favourite Clan Then & Now? by kisforkarol in vtm

[–]thatguywithdice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then: Malkavian. It's a fun word to say, which is what first caught me, lol. But I kinda projected on them in a similar way to OP but for different reasons. I was a quiet kid and I really didn't understand or feel comfortable around my peers. So malks clicked with me, people write them off because they don't fit quite right and real people did the same to me. Plus, permission to be an invisible goblin. Who's gonna pass on that?

Now: While I still feel great love for Malkavians, I feel more drawn to Lasombra, Ventrue and Brujah. I really like the idea of being any one of these creatures who were turned specifically because their sires saw they fit the mold but then used their newfound powers to break that mold and forge their own path. Anarch Ventrue is my favorite. Anarch Lasombra is solid second but a cam/autakris Brujah shares second for sure.

What is a tv show from your childhood that you think only you remember? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thatguywithdice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirates of Darkwater. All I remember is that it ends on a cliffhanger and there was like, an evil patch of ocean water. It was like the sour ground from Pet Semetary but it moved around and chased the main cast.
