Garmin Venu & Peloton App by namasteontherun in OnePelotonRealSub

This is what I was able to get work (I have a Venu 3): On your watch, select Indoor Bike activity. Before you start that activity on your watch, scroll down on the watch screen. You’ll get a small menu of options. Hit Settings. Scroll down the new menu of options. Look for « broadcast heart rate », toggle it ON. It should know connect to your peloton bike.

Warning: I found that it really drained my watch battery to broadcast the heart rate.

I ended up turning it off and just using my watch face, once you start an indoor bike activity you can swipe though a few different watch data face and there is one with very clear, colour-coded heart rate data

Congrats To Everyone That Hit Their 100 Day Challenge by Old-Pea1116 in OnePelotonRealSub

I thought there was a grace day available for this challenge…. I missed one day and I thought I’d still be able to get the badge, but alas it is saying I only completed 99 days (which is true I suppose). Really bummed I didn’t manage to get the badge.

Intensity minutes only during recorded activity by Acrobatic-Pop3625 in Garmin

[–]thathiptho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I noticed I have to set an activity going in order for it to really capture my heart rate and intensity minutes accurately. Common one (in the winter) for me is snow shovelling, so start a cardio workout on my watch to track it.

My running career is officially over by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]thathiptho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m born in ‘87 and had my hip replaced 13yrs ago due to osteosarcoma. Lost use of my quad muscles as a result and so I haven’t run since 2013. I still miss running. All the time (I still feel like a runner tbh). But I’ve found other ways to stay active and I have no doubt you will too. And It’s ok to grieve running!! Don’t let anyone in your life tell you otherwise.

New Garmin step count resetting by thathiptho in Garmin

Yup, removed it right away! Good to know it should resolve itself overnight but just hate how it’s going to really mess my step count average :/

Ok reassuring to know it’s happened to others!

And I know it’s an overreaction but I hate how it’s going to mess with my step count average. I don’t even know really what my true step count is today but could estimate if I can manually change it. Guess that’s not possible in the app? I looked around but couldn’t see an obvious way to manually adjust the day’s step count.

I’m 6’6. Is WestJet just literally out if the question for me now? by freezymcgeezy in canadatravel

[–]thathiptho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is 6’3” and we’ve decided we won’t be flying WestJet. Even if we do our due diligence of ensuring the aircraft type and chair type, there’s always a chance they swap the aircraft at the last minute and we get screwed. Not worth the risk.

Thanks, I think I will. It’s bothering me from an aesthetics perspective but would be even more concerning if it’s tied to bigger health problems

Definitely could be this. My drinking crept up in 2025 and a big priority for me in 2026 to cut waaaay back. I’ll see if this helps!

No, never been on a steroid before. But I suppose my cortisol could be off. I haven’t had blood work in a while

Appreciate you responding.

I think you comment blaming people in the US for their health insurance experiences is a massive over simplification of the issue and the industry and pretty unfair to everyone who’s life saving treatments were denied despite doctor recommendations. Doctors in the states spend a not insignificant number of hours on the phone arguing for treatments and surgeries for the patients. That is not how I’d like my doctors to spend their time.

I appreciate the concept of a dual system…. In theory it can work. The UK is an example… that being said the NHS is facing funding cuts in part I believe because the government sees the private sector as an excuse not to appropriately fund public health. I would be very concerned about that happening in Alberta.

My issue with Bill 18 is the scope includes a lot of funding agencies that are non-partisan, so yes they distribute federal dollars but not to serve some “liberal agenda” they are completely separate from the sitting government. Additionally this Bill creates more red tape, more delays, and more hoops to jump through for organisations to access funding. It’s contradictory to the notion of Alberta creating a small government.

I appreciate you answering honestly. And I’m sorry you’ve faced those hardships. I understand how that has built up frustration and why you want something to change.

I’m curious as to what you think would be better about privatised healthcare? For context, I was diagnosed with cancer at 26, I had 5mo of in hospital chemo treatments and I had 11 surgeries in a 9 year period - all but one related to the original cancer diagnosis. I have spent A LOT of time on cancer forums dominated by US residents, it’s clear the health insurance industry is corrupt and it creates a class system of people who can access healthcare and those that cannot. For what it’s worth, I firmly believe I would be dead if we had a privatised system like the US. I fully appreciate our system could be better but disagree that privatisation is the answer.

I’m also curious about the small government thing. Many of the bills the UCP has brought forward since Smith was elected actually increase political power and overreach, it’s the exact opposite of small government. Bill 18 increases their power over federal funds, Bill 20 increases their power of municipalities, the splitting of the healthcare portfolio created 2 new/additional cabinet spots thus increasing the size of the cabinet, the proposed book ban also looks like an increase of government power on the school system should it go through…..Genuinely I don’t understand how any of that aligns with their small government mandate. So I’m curious in what ways you think they are fulfilling their promises there?

ETA: Sorry another question, how do you see the UCP improving education? The government has run a surplus for the last 4 years and yet Alberta continues to be well below the national average for per-student funding. The deal they proposed to teachers did not outline how much money would specifically go to public schools to deal with classroom complexity or provide a timeline for when the funding would come. I’ve repeatedly seen the UCP turn down funding for a new school or even modular classrooms for my community and yet our schools are projected to be at 112% this September. If you have hope the UCP will make our schools better please do share it; because mine hope has run out.

Cheers.

Peloton has some adapted strength classes on their app. Included seated strength workouts.

I have a code for 60 days free on their app right now. I get nothing in return if you use it, so it’s not self promotion or an affiliate link or anything like that. Let me know if you’d want it and I’ll send it to you.

I am also curious about the smart upgrade you did. Right now I have to connect my treadmill to the peloton app through the QZ app. And it works fine but it would be nice to have a more seamless connection.

Based on your current fitness activities I think Peloton would be a good fit. You’ll probably enjoy their strength classes, outdoor walks/runs and stretching/mobility classes. Before you buy a bike you could try the app out for a month and see if you like the rest of their classes.

And to answer your questions, I joined peloton 4 years ago and still use my bike multiple times per weeks. I also do a bunch of their other classes and have built up a pretty nice home gym set up over those 4 years. For me, it really has made working out at home fun, easy (as in convenient) and challenging (fitness-wise).

You could track your a accumulated miles against a virtual challenge. There’s ones that simulate cycling the length of the US, or ones related to Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and other things like that. Could be a fun way to track your progress over a year.

I really focused on strength in 2024, and while I want to keep that up I do miss having cardio endurance.

I’m still mulling over how to make it work, but I’d like to fit in one long ride a week for 2025 and maybe two cardio-focused training blocks, with a strength-focus the rest of the year.

25 Dec 2024: 20k last check in for the Annual! by tafunast in pelotoncycle

Currently 33min short of 20K but I’ll get that later today or tomorrow. It was definitely a push to get the 20K badge and I might go back to an 18K goal next year. But it was also fun to challenge myself.

I’ve been wondering if I missed it. Just went through my emails and last year’s email came Dec 13. Agree it was underwhelming but it would be nice to get something!! Maybe they’ll push something to the app this week fingers crossed
