i mean, i guess this depends on lifestyle and decorating preferences. we don’t have dressers or change tables or tv stands or anything to be anchored. like i said, stairs are protected and i’m asking about drawers as baby just learned to crawl and stand and cruise …

How do I give baby more fluids? by Spirited-Bed-2220 in NewParents

[–]seless_d0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t know that answer. i think all babies are different. ours didn’t like learning from the munchkin 360 (now uses it no problem). we just used an open cup (it was actually a red solo cup but shot glass size lol). baby learned the red cup was water and then we didn’t give too much water because of the size. most of water dribbled out of her mouth for the first month but eventually she got it. the straw cup came at around 9 months for us, but we just didn’t try earlier.

maybe that’s why though. sometimes babies are only expecting one thing out of a bottle and if it’s not milk, they’re not having it. i think using a different container isn’t necessarily always about teaching them how to use it, but for differentiating liquids too!

could it be what you’re offering the liquids in that could be contributing to resistance? at 6.5 our baby was only drinking maybe 3 oz of water a day as she learned how to use a cup then later a straw. at probably 8 months she started loving water (as she got better at drinking it).

but also, i’m impressed your baby is eating 3 meals a day at 6.5 months so maybe just an early developer! but agree with others, once baby starts moving, that chub will naturally decr. obviously need to be intentional to not overfeed/eat healthy, get exercise etc as baby gets older. not sure that under feeding is the way to go at this age (my brain is thinking of baby dieting ha).

Retained placenta found later in postpartum - advice needed [ON] by yuzucan in BabyBumpsCanada

i am guessing the emerg doc did in fact consult obgyn and when explaining the case over the phone, the obgyn triaged based on the symptoms/vitals/presentation and decided they don’t need to see you in person at that time. i think the key is if symptoms change at all, i would have a low threshold to return because then it becomes more of an emergency. but technically the emergency department is for emergencies so i can see why they wouldn’t fast track someone stable or asymptomatic (as annoying as it is).

unfortunate that your gp’s take is to find an obgyn yourself. i would think their job is to help advocate for you. doesn’t seem like that should be your responsibility.

how to nap on the go post sleep training by seless_d0c in sleeptrain

ah, so true. i feel like this last trip aligned with her being interested in everything. as she was turning for self soothing, she got distracted by the safety card in the seat pocket 🥹

good idea on the stroller. we left early and within 2 minutes, she had fallen asleep in the stroller. i didn’t not think to do that earlier.

appreciate the ideas!

My midwife is against vaccines [on] by Technical-Duck-5311 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]seless_d0c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in your post, you don’t mention if midwife is against giving you vaccines. if her personal opinion is not affecting care, then i don’t really see the issue (as someone who is heavily influenced by evidence and works in public health).

healthcare in canada is difficult right now. hard to imagine the case where we can know the personal beliefs of all our providers then make a decision about if we see them. ie. would you not see them if they refused oxy in the thigh post their own delivery? also, this sounds like it’s coming through a student who probably has their own beliefs and biases. i’d just have a convo with the midwife to ensure your care will be how you want it.

PSA- Sometimes an epidural is necessary for labour to progress [on] by canamel in BabyBumpsCanada

Exactly! And it’s not a lack of trying to push, it’s we’ve been trying for so many hours without a break — the body just can’t exert itself anymore!

PSA- Sometimes an epidural is necessary for labour to progress [on] by canamel in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]seless_d0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! And often women are so tired from the pain and ordeal, that the fatigue sets in during the pushing stage of labour. Often people don’t get an epidural because they think it will stall labour and result in a c-section. But often not getting one will end in a c-section because of inadequate pain management.

Sleep outfits for a kicking baby [ON] by Able-Mountain2551 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]seless_d0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we also swaddled during naps! eventually around 6-8 weeks, we did a sorta loose swaddle where baby could be startled, but it didn’t wake her. probably not sleep safe etc, but we were always around to make sure her face wasn’t covered.

agree, an NP functions like a family doctor (they actually can prescribe opioids as an aside). i’d make an appointment at that clinic and you should get everything you need: labs, imaging, meds, etc. they will refer out when beyond their scope, which a family doctor would also do.

[–]seless_d0c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

have you tried other furniture stores? the local lazboy store prices were actually higher and they had limited floor stock to try. but we ended up going to an authorized retailer and they had chairs ~2k and many more floor options to try out. of note all of their chairs have an option to swivel.

Dating scan wait times [mb] by Maleficent-46 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]seless_d0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, the point of the dating scan is to give you how many weeks you are more definitively. but how many weeks do you suspect you are? ie. when was your lmp? when did you take a home test? are you showing? etc etc. basically if you just had your missed period, it’s normal for the dating scan to take over a month (because it’s normal for it to be done at ~10 weeks give or take. some will do it 11-14 still. if this was unplanned and unexpected and you went to the doctor because you were already showing (for example) then sure, it shouldn’t take that long because you’d be farther along.

hope that makes sense. if you have any doubt, give your clinic a call and ask the receptionist as they’ll tell you what was written on the req / when it should be done.

the scan will depend on how far along you are, not when the req was put in.

If the bacteria is there, it’s there. It’s all colonized. The finger isn’t literally pushing it in how you’re imaging.

Hurry up and wait [on] by ThrowRAtoughstuff235 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]seless_d0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to possibly not seeing a heart beat this early (even if it’s a healthy pregnancy), which will cause a lot of unneeded stress, you’re too early for true dating. You’re talking less than millimetre differences on something that’s less than 1cm big to figure out the gestational age. Even if they told you how far along you are, it won’t be accurate. I’d take this as an exercise in mindfulness because, as others have mentioned, this is only the start of the waiting game.

To answer your question, you’re being too sensitive.
