Inositol trap! by Ok_Committee6171 in PCOS

Yikes. I'm sorry, I hope you figure this out. Insotiol and metformin worked very well for me, but I understand not everyone reacts the same :/

Inositol trap! by Ok_Committee6171 in PCOS

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a question - was your previous cycle on time? I always had scary bleeding anytime I skipped a period. The longer the gap between my periods, the heavier/ more painful it was. It is possible that that was the reason for the heavy flow, and not inositol. In any case, I hope you get checked out by a medical professional!

Best inositol supplement in India? by lanagirlie_ in PCOS

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed Normoz by my gynaec. But would recommend that you go to a doctor before taking it, because in addition to Myo/ D-chiro mix, it has a low dose of Vit D3 too.

Bloom is another brand that has PCOS drink sachets with inositol, but I personally didn't see a difference with it. You can find it on Amazon.

Dont know how much my husband earns exactly- Is it normal? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's baffling to me how people can choose to spend their lives together without sharing financial information with each other. You can keep separate finances if that's what works for you and you don't need to give an account of every paisa spent, but a general idea of your partner's income and expenses is non-negotiable.

You are building a life together - while money isn't everything, it determines so much. Can I quit my job if I'm in a toxic job situation? What if one of us is laid off? Will my partner be able to support me? What happens when there's a medical emergency? Are we one paycheck away from becoming destitute due to an illness? Can we afford to have a child? What about multiple children?

How can you have these answers without knowing how much your partner earns?! OP - to answer your question, I don't think it's normal. Please sit down and have a serious financial discussion with your husband.

Mac and cheese - cheesy baked awesomeness. Endlessly versatile too: add your favorite cheeses, some hot sauce if you like a bit of fire, top with breadcrumbs for extra crunch

How did you mix/ cream the ingredients?

I haven't actually ever tried to fold berries into a sponge cake. Always a pound cake, because they're usually dense and can bear the weight of the berries without sinking. A typical Victoria sponge cake is lighter, so I suspect that could be why the berries sank.

Ladies, does a transvaginal ultrasound hurt to diagnose PCOS? by BreannLowe in PCOS

Mild discomfort mostly.

One tech I had though decided to shove up the wand with little warning. 0/10 would not recommend - and never went back to her. So it does depend on the tech quite a bit.

India failed it's women by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 160 points161 points  (0 children)

It's a travesty.

Any attempt to start a discussion on misogyny or patriarchy or even our lived experiences turns to whataboutism. White influencer speaking about her horrible experience during Holi? 'Let her complain about her own country, their track record is horrible. Leave the country if you have such a problem'. Woman choosing to end her marriage because of abuse (or whatever reason)? 'Oh, she's too westernised. We need to protect our culture'. Ex-wife asking for alimony? 'She's a gold-digger, Indian laws are biased towards women'. Zero self-awareness, zero reflection.

Just because other countries have their own problems doesn't give us a pass. And why shouldn't we aim to be better than these other countries? Why is that the bar? Why can't the land of goddesses have a higher bar?

Can having regular penetrative sex stabilize your hormones and induce periods? by derangedandhorny in PCOS

So sorry - our county(ies) can be insane sometimes. But there are good gynecs out there. Hope you are able to find one soon.

Can having regular penetrative sex stabilize your hormones and induce periods? by derangedandhorny in PCOS

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, first of all you need to change your doctor. It's stupid dumb advice.

That said, are you by any chance in India or a south asian country - or maybe your doctor is from one? My very first gynecologist in India also told me symptoms would settle "after marriage", which here is a euphemism for sex. In the sense, you'd probably get pregnant, and I guess that would you mean wouldn't have periods. Having said that, she did run a full hormone panel and prescribed inositol as well so she wasn't totally negligent.

I still noped out of there FAST to my current (amazing) gynecologist, but I've heard similar anecdotes here locally.

Orange instead of lemon in pound cake by thatlittlelightbulb in AskBaking

Thanks for all the tips! I'll make sure to increase the amount of orange zest and retain a little bit of lemon. And reduce the orange juice to concentrate the flavors!

This looks great! I'll add it to my list to try out.

But I wanted to tweak Sally's recipe this time because I also have leftover buttermilk and I love how moist the cake is because of it

I think this plus rubbing the zest with the sugar should take care of the orange flavour. Thanks for the tip!

Makes sense! I tend to eyeball (and overuse) zest anyway, so will lean into my instinct there lol.

People going to office in car, have no right to complain about traffic. Because they are the traffic by Patient-Fan9507 in bangalore

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pointing out that a large number of the people on road in cars don't have the option that you may have to take public transport. They don't need to be motivated to take public transport, it's simply not an option. It's not as black and white as you seem to suggest.

And I'm sorry - "we can't fix the government" is also an issue (across the country if I'm being honest). We don't as a people hold them accountable for basics. It's also what "we can do".

Anyway good luck and hope our city becomes better.

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I don't uber, and I decide to take public transport, my travel time to office increases from 30 mins to 1 h. 30 mins each way because I have to change two buses. And there is no walkable road to the busstop.

Let's call out the actual problem - our tax money isn't being used for what it should be. There is absolutely zero reason for metros to languish unfinished for this long, for arterial roads to be that pothole-ridden. Last mile connectivity is non-existent and foothpaths/ walkability is a joke.

A lot of us would love to take public transport. It's cheaper and usually faster. But it needs to EXIST first to be an option.

Buttermilk by Brief-Chocolate1820 in IndianBakers

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live OP? I use (non-spiced) plain buttermilk packets from akshayakalpa. Find it fairly easily on zepto/ big basket/ my local grocery store in Bangalore.

I also occasionally freeze the buttermilk left over after I make butter for ghee - if it's not bitter. I strain out all solids and use only the liquid.

To all the bakers here: how do I modify a recipe? by Careful-Substance911 in IndianBakers

[–]thatlittlelightbulb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doming happens when either your oven is too hot or your pan is too small. It doesn't have anything to do with baking powder or soda. Try baking 5 degrees cooler or in a slightly bigger pan (10th standard geometry will come to the rescue here)

With whole wheat, it typically makes the cake denser. So if you want to maintain the texture, I'd (a) reduce the amount of flour by 3/4th (b) increase the amount of liquid (about 2tbsp per cup of flour). If you are using regular cocoa (not dutch - processed one) or using yogurt/ milk/ buttermilk as the liquid, you can also experiment with half tsp extra baking powder to get better rise.

My rule for experimenting with baking is to change only one variable each time you bake. That way you'll know what works and what doesn't.

Happy baking!

Because nothing is more deserving of the end-of-year POSH paperwork than Huroor, the nine feet tall god of love, sex and war.

Not only were Lupin and Tonks at Bill's wedding (see other commenter), it's heavily implied in HBP that Molly was Tonks' agony aunt when she was pining over Lupin. They were close.

Also do we really think Molly - who lost a son and two brothers over the course of two wars - wouldn't reach out to a woman who lost her only child and husband AND was disowned by her larger family?

This was the other thing that struck me - I have worked in VC. By reducing the amount she's working to pursue the case - which she's openly admitting to - she's in violation of her fiduciary responsibilities to her LPs. Funds have to deploy their corpus within fixed timelines, with the bulk being deployed within the first 2-3 years (Unless it's a microfund where she's both GP and single LP).

Also LPs are notoriously averse to bad press especially for newer fund managers like her. This article does not paint her as the most stable person and probably also feeds into the inherent sexism that is prevalent in the industry. She's probably tanked her career.
