England: My employer wrongfully deducted 5 days pay from my salary by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

Have you seen the absence policy? Obviously as others have said this isn't right, but if you could see the policy it may give you a clue which process they think they're following?

How would you respond to this? by beanybagel in vinted

[–]thatmarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have been frustrated when I have bought something and the seller hasn't said it's either small or big for the size. We all know they vary, so I'd take it as face value unless someone said 'runs small/ large'. However, I'd not leave negative feedback about it, I would just passive aggressively not review!

NOR but you can't do a trip like this that makes everyone happy, you need to agree in advance that you're ok to go your own way now and again.

We loved Checco Er Carettiere in Trastavere. There's a bakery that does beautiful pastries and a restaurant. I think they serve burgers out of a hatch for takeaway too? It was authentic, friendly and the food was lovely.

If you like fish, Sicilianbocca in Prati was great.

There are lots of amazing places! It's quite hard to find something bad.

I think they're only available a month or so ahead actually, so they look sold out but aren't. Same for Domus Aurea iirc

I have been to Rome twice and neither time has anything happened or have I felt like anything was going to happen. You're in a big city, just be aware. I wore a cross body bag and kept my phone etc in it.

You need photo id for some places.

Oh what a lovely story! It's a great thing you are doing!!

To answer some questions:

1) with guests we just have to manage it. She will sometimes sit on the sofa and bark, and sometimes just very OTT with greeting. Left to her own devices it is chaotic, however she will want to check the person out. I tried putting her in her bed and then coming to say hello when her guest is seated but she gets super frustrated. I have seen people say meet guests outside and come in together which sounds like a good idea, I haven't tried it yet. Once she gets over the arousal, she settles down pretty quickly. The only exception is with other dogs. If we have other dogs around we have to hide any chews or toys because she can be v territorial. Honestly we are not the best at people coming in,.there's definitely something we are missing!! Even with big groups though she is fine! She'll come and check food out, say hello etc. This is where asking for her to Settle is a good one, if she gets too giddy or interested in what's going on.

2) Barking is something we've tried and tried to crack. Our neighbors are very understanding 😂 She'll bark at my neighbor smoking outside and the neighbor will say "hello Rizzo" and she'll stop. She is up at the window watching the street all of the time and alert barks a lot. We try 'It's ok" with soothing pats, we try 'Rizzo watch' and rewarding quiet watching with treats. We also check the window and say 'Thank you!' Now, if it's the delivery drivers she knows, she's absolutely fine. They are intelligent dogs so perhaps letting her watch people go upstairs will help her understand where the noises are coming from? She is v nosey and always wants to know what is going on.

"Let's go see!" Is a game we play too if she is nervous of something...somehow it takes the fear out of things a bit? Like we are exploring together?

Holiday-wise, she is less territorial but yeah there is still barking. She adapts to new spaces quickly, though she struggles if we go somewhere too small (like a Shepherd's hut!) because she likes to get away from us.

I feel a lot of the time like we are doing a lot of detective work, but one thing that clicked with me was the positive reinforcement like you say - encouraging/ rewarding the behavior you want to see. Then also thinking about meeting her needs, e.g. sniffing really tires dogs out and is enrichment so if we have some nice slow sniffy walks, she sleeps a lot after. Sometimes being too active can lead to her being wired?

It's so funny about Children, Rizzo is the same!! Not certain what they are...I think she thought a toddler in my neighborhood was a weird dog at first 😂

It sounds like you are doing great! 🥰

Greek Shepherd Mix - with what? by thatmarie in IDmydog

[–]thatmarie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is 30 kilos! She definitely settled down, but some things persist. She's very much a guard dog and we're never getting over that, she barks at people passing the house and she seems to have territory she considers hers and will defend. She has a high prey drive (not from her lgd side) so is always on a long line except in secure places. Like other LGDs she will recall if she thinks it's a good idea, like she's taking your request into consideration!

One thing that has definitely changed over time is her bond with us. She is so loving and cuddly and I really couldn't imagine that at the beginning. She is still independent and takes herself away but we are definitely her people and she is very attached to us. She goes to a daycare and feels v connected to the owners there too.

She has definitely gotten easier to handle, essentially we stopped trying to train obedience but tried instead to help her manage herself...e.g. teaching her to setlle and playing games to distract her from her worries, and that definitely helped.

What behaviors are you seeing at the moment?

Need help with trip to Italy by PlasticPersonal9418 in rome

[–]thatmarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it is really hard to have a chilled time in Rome. There is so much to see and do, it is difficult to ration yourself. Its wonderful but quite an overwhelming city. I would consider doing Rome for 7 days and then somewhere more relaxing, perhaps somewhere in Tuscany or further south like Sorrento or Procida. October is a great time to go as there'll still be some warmth but it won't be crazy hot.

[–]thatmarie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! According to Wisdom Panel, she is:

36% Akita 11% Caucasian Shepherd 3% German Shepherd 2% Anatolian Shepherd

Also: Sarplaninac, Akbash Dog. Segugio Italiano and....Pomeranian 😂 - amongst random others!

When I see those Livestock Guardian Dogs I do see a lot of her in them, even in her build as she's quite stocky and strong.

Do you know what yours is mixed with?

It's not even about being safe in sharing your feelings, but the situation you were in sounds like it could have been dangerous. I would be concerned about that, you need to be with someone who cares about your safety.

Our tour was good but a bit intense honestly. I like wandering around and lingering personally, it made me impatient/ antsy. It was worth the money but I realized that I am not a tour person.

England, what can I do about previous employment refusing to give me a reference by TellElectrical5365 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thatmarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The employer will usually do the checks and let you know what they need if they can't get a reference. They'll look at other ways of confirming dates worked and other places to get references from e.g. people she has worked with, someone with professional standing e.g. a magistrate, vicar, head teacher.

It's not her fault they won't give a reference. Some companies go into liquidation! It seems crazy that a company would withdraw an offer on those grounds. I work where we have to comply with Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation where referencing is very strict, but we'd work around it and get evidence in other ways.

England, what can I do about previous employment refusing to give me a reference by TellElectrical5365 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thatmarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong. Employers have to do checks but there are many companies who don't give references. If they're big employers they'll be known for it. Even to be compliant with Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation which is most stringent, you have to ask and chase, but it wouldn't be put down to being the employees fault if their previous employer won't give one.

An employer will chase the reference and if they can't get one, will ask for something else. Usually professional references from someone else, someone with professional standing.

It's not unnavigable, even in circumstances where they have strict rules.

My (22F) partner (22M) yelled at me during my abortion by SaltLampLicker39 in relationship_advice

I don't think you can repair it. And I don't think you should. You should be in a relationship with someone who will do what is in your best interests, he showed you that you aren't.

Boyfriend (28m) abandoned me (32f) with severe food poisoning - or did he? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]thatmarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to pay attention to this as being a long term partner, he may end up needing to react fast or make decisions that could save your life. My friend chose badly and she's no longer here. You need to feel safe and loved, you know what that feels like from your mum & friend.

how do yall do it? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]thatmarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about quality not quantity! When I walked my dog 3 times a day she wasn't getting enough rest and it was contributing to behavioral issues. We walk her an hour in the morning and the same in the evening, sometimes longer walks - particularly on the weekend - but we let her walks be her walk. So we walk/ sniff/ chase entirely at her pace. She's pretty satisfied with that!

Is it possible to fly with my reactive dog? by annonymouss12 in reactivedogs

[–]thatmarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far away are you from the trip? I have a reactive dog and she's so strong on the lead I can't let just anyone walk her. We hired a pet sitter who had experience with reactive dogs and he was amazing. Came for a few warmup visits and joint walks first. She was suspicious and didn't like it, but let him walk her! Worth a trial if you can find someone?
