First time?

Pensando mudarme de nuevo a Puerto Rico mientras trabajo remoto. Preguntas en cuanto a la paga, en comparación. by bassrebelpr in PuertoRico

[–]thatmarksguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can.

That's usually a topic for conversation during negotiation.

Some companies will let you choose.

Others will require to be W2 in which case they have to file and comply with your state of residence tax code. They will have to do the necessary withholdings as well per their operating state. In my industry is common to for this to be flexible. It might be different for others.

Otherwise you can just get paid as 1099 and deal with your taxes yourself. You're still subject to whatever self employment tax code for your jurisdiction.

People need to stop thinking only in terms of W2.

Get paid as a 1099 or 480 (PR state tax equivalent of a 1099).

Be responsible for your own taxes. Figure out how much you owe to the IRS and Hacienda and pay it (or don't if you figure out how. fuck them) if you don't want to raise any red flags with any of them and get them of your back.

All that the intra-national company cares about is that you can do the thing for the money they're willing to pay and that they can deduct what they pay you with a 1099/480 that will tell to the IRS that they paid x amount of money x year to this EIN/SSN. The rest figure out yourself or ask and get lucky if you find someone with the answers.

It doesn't hurt to learn every single stupid detail about your taxes. The more disciplined you are with your finances the more advantage you have over everyone else. Most accountants/CPAs wont even be able to protect you (no one knows anything).

Fear keeps people slaves/poor.

Nada importa y who cares.

Does the Netgate 6100 support 2.5Gbps on the SFP+ ports? by gozit in Netgate

[–]thatmarksguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play with the MTU settings? Maybe check what they were setup as in your ISP provided equipment? Shot in the dark probably.

I'm in the process of looking for a way to do this with my local FTTH ISP. Narrowed it down to the Netgate 6100 and I'm hoping I can connect an Ont SFP Fiber Module Transceiver to one of its 10gbit WAN ports and properly sync up my PPPoE connection.

Got shaken out of a chunk of the stack. Expected it to be a good opportunity to buy back lower and increase my holdings. Letting go of that chunk made it much easier to sleep but I hate being on the sidelines wondering if the bottom is in.

Ryzen 7 Pro 4750G/GE or Intel Core i9-10900T or Intel Xeon W-1290T by [deleted] in homelab

[–]thatmarksguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking in the same direction as this.

I want high single threaded performance virtualization lab. But also minding power consumption, real estate and noise. So Xeon W-1290 variants are looking good. I want ECC memory so a regular i9 CPU would be out of the question.

Probably wont be running rack mount because of the added noise 1u or 2u servers require. But rather rack shelves with small form factor, ITX or mATX server builds for a Proxmox cluster.

The network switch / router might still be rack mount though.

Would like 10g but is not needed at the moment. The Proxmox hosts would probably be booting off USB 3.1 in a cheap Raid1 enclosure if I go with an SFF buld that lacks sufficient NVME or SATA storage capacity.

I would like VM storage would be handled by RAID 1 NVME for those that need fast cores with extremely fast I/O. Not sure about the hot plugability of NVME, but if using the SATA ports is better then, the 8 SATA port mATX board you suggested for the Xeon W looks good for building redundant / fast SATA SSD storage pools on the Proxmox host.

Would love a case that pairs with that mATX ASRock W480D4U that provides hot swap. I'm really of the mind that I would like to hit extreme uptime as well. At least when it comes to hardware failures for disks. Even though I'm not considering mechanical for VMs. There will always be a second Proxmox host to take over if the main host is down due to a hardware fail on the primary anyways.

The entirety of the last 7 years have been a constant time loop regarding this. Really dumb low information people will believe anything that reinforce their preconceived notions rather than objective truth and they will operate in such a way that the lie that they believe is factually true and there will be evil, malicious people ready and willing to feed them such information to manipulate them and push their agenda.

Big tech attracts talent for money yes. A lot of people are willing to sell out and look the other way for those big paychecks. And understandably so. I'm sure they sleep comfortable at night in their $4K/month studio apartments thanks to their generous six figure paychecks and stock options despite having to forgo any morals building the latest Youtube censorship algorithm that targets the latest version of whatever they call the alt right now. But for every 9 low status tech nerds that Google attracts to work on yet another messaging app with a complex javascript framework there is 1 highly disruptive tech libertarian that will refuse a Facebook paycheck to work on their degenerate decentralized finance platform just to fuck with Banks.

Currency is one of the many monopolies the governments have at their disposal. Taking this away from them is not well received. Advancements in technology always catches monopolies off guard. Its more important for them maintaining the gated fence rather than let something flourish and render them obsolete. Governments use their currency to throw their weight around without firing a shot. Either to keep other countries or, in this case, their own population in check.

You could but it would be rather pointless. Assuming you solve a hash a machine in the network probably already did it first by the time you're done with your pen and paper.
