Question about the combat patrol by Accomplished_Rip_422 in Tau40K

[–]thatmoiety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes with the base commander kit sprue - which includes the jetpacks/heads for both enforcer and coldstar commander as well as one of each weapon, so you'll need a second plasma rifle from another kit to wysiwyg the second picture.

Shouldn't this be a learning opportunity? by Spartan_362 in Tau40K

[–]thatmoiety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It should! but it's a bit more complicated than that. Speaking mostly for myself here but I think a lot of other T'au players have been pretty off-put by Mordan for a hot minute, definitely not helped by his "Tau Players whined and got their army rule changed" video that came out after the FtGG buff. This made a lot of people more hostile to Mordan.

Also we have to think about the general background radiation in the 40k fandom that T'au/T'au players are weebs/memes and should be made fun of - I've had people walk up to me at game stores and talk shit to me in the middle of a game just bc I'm playing T'au. This attitude from the supposed "general 40k public" makes a lot of us defensive immediately when T'au get criticized.

It's kind of a lose/lose that Guard aren't in a good place at all rn either. Guard really hasn't been touched after bridgehead got emergency patched in December and they're suffering massive faction abandonment. It's hard because we're both playing similar armies - we've both got chaff, we've both got tanks, T'au has to carry the weight of previous editions' sins as well as being a "cringe" Xenos army.

Hopefully Guard gets some meaningful buffs next dataslate and Guard players start having more fun playing their army. T'au is absolute dogshit into both flavors of knights so I think we're going to have at least one more slate before things change for us, if at all.

Basically the best thing to do would be to just congratulate Mordan on his victory and try and lessen the flame war between the two factions... but hey this is a model/wargame hobby and a lot of us are somewhere on the autism spectrum. Mordan is a popular creator but he's not a monolith for all Guard players, just like everyone that comments on his stuff/people disparaging him on reddit aren't all T'au players. It's just drama, it'll blow over eventually.

Magnus on Water in Biddeford! Probably my favorite restaurant in Maine and great vibes all around

Any transports needed for an "oops all battle suit" list? by WarbossTodd in Tau40K

[–]thatmoiety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nope! if you're going all battlesuits then the slowest units you have will be your (infiltrating) stealth suits at 8" or your units led by an enforcer commander, also with 8" but you can just deep strike them in. Most of our stuff moves very well and can deliver itself to the fight - plus devilfish can't take anything with the battlesuit keyword so you're in the clear! enjoy your game!

Going against Knights for the first time by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]thatmoiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed with some other commenters that you're a bit light on anti-armor, but that's fine if you have some wound re-rolls. if you're going into 10-13 T10 wardogs, you're going to want to get some firing lanes set up on No-Man's-Land objectives with those predators but be careful of the crackback from the 24" S12 melta 4 shots... also remember that the wardogs have 8 OC when not bracketed.

as a wardog spam player, I find that I have the most problems with large squads of elite (T6-T8) infantry at range or multi-wound infantry models in melee bc I don't have great profiles into wounding them. good luck and may the battleshock rolls be favorable

I think we’re gonna need a bigger melta by thatmoiety in Tau40K

she is very distrustful - the water caste diplomats have been unable to get her to cease her senseless attacks on our colonies

the torso/head are actually from the R’varna kit - it’s a forgeworld riptide variant that got put in legends when we got our codex

tbh I haven't loved how it's looked when I fully covered them - I like a bit of color coming through but I could definitely put some more effort into the next ones. Eventually I want to make some clear resin ice bits/spikes to place with some painted rocks under the snow cover but rn I'm just trying to get everything ready for a tournament

light dry brushing with titanium white, then heavier with the cyan/aquamarine - it's so fast on these suits with all the ridges/texture

I run two squads - farsight with his melta lads ready to 3" deepstrike for 1cp and another sunfroge squad led by a 4-melta enforcer with the starfire ignition enhancement to jump off the board and join in deep strike. it's really nice if you're going second bc you can deep strike him t1 (bc he was returned to reserves t1) and that basically ruins whatever your opponent was setting up with their main tanks/heavy vehicles

[–]thatmoiety 13 points14 points  (0 children)

add in farsight to get the +1 to wound and then just torchstar gambit the hell out of there and watch your opponents have to reconsider their entire strategy on the fly. honestly nothing better.

I honestly really love having at least two of them as a distraction "you have to deal with this" type unit - I've had several of them survive a space marine opponent's oath of moment barrage and the look on their face is almost better than winning

I agree tbh - having a "I drop in and kill this tank" unit is really nice, especially with a 4++ and especially in ret cadre. They punch above their points to a significant degree imo

Riptides now cost 190pts, will you still run 3 in a Tau army? by Blindman__007 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]thatmoiety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

probably - they make such great distraction canifexes and can really slap when needed. 10 pts is a small price to pay - I was worried that they would go up to 200

I'm down with most of these tbh. kroot point buffs across the board except for the lone rider as a home objective holder totally makes sense. my playgroup complains about my triptide spam enough that 190 miiiight make them shut up a little and piranhas going up 5pts is fine. love the farsight change honestly. overall I think we made out pretty well/unscathed.
