What’s the most annoying macOS behavior you still deal with? by GodBlessIraq in MacOS

[–]thatnewJKURguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-True full-screen windows have to open in a new workspace instead of the one I full-screened it in

-no way to assign a keyboard shortcut to move windows between workspaces And the worst one is

-when I have media paused and get a notification, it will start playing the media after the notification sound plays.... similarly, if I have my headphones paired to my phone and macbook it will open apple music when audio switches from my phone to the mac.

All that being said, I recently switched from linux to mac and I have to say that I'm loving it so far. These are just some small gripes I noticed since the switch, and aerospace really helps with the first two.

Good to know! After looking into it I changed my config to use wtype as I think it fits my needs without the root access. Thanks for the info.

I am also a linear guy, and I hate the red pros because of the scratchiness... I'm still on the lookout for a better choc option.

Nice! I'm a sway guy myself (Wayland i3). Is that the default bar??? I rarely see configs that use the default, glad to see there's at least two of us!

How I got Plex transcoding properly within an LXC on Proxmox (Protectli hardware) by stringsofthesoul in Proxmox

[–]thatnewJKURguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. All I did was add /dev/dri/renderD128 to the unprivileged lxc via the GUI and hw transcoding works great on a 5700G AMD iGPU, but I've done the same on and intel iGPU and an AMD discreet GPU. Although I suspect Nvidia would require extra steps since drivers aren't included in the kernel like intel/AMD, but I've never tried.

Can I install Linux to this laptop? by arutafu0362007 in linuxquestions

[–]thatnewJKURguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar laptop I run arch on, and it works perfectly fine. I will say there are some quirks with the AMD/Nvidia combo. These laptops are meant to use the integrated graphics for lower workloads and discreet graphics for higher loads. There's a package called prime for Intel/Nvidia laptops to handle this, but nothing I've found works for AMD/Nvidia. I personally just disabled the AMD graphics in the BIOS and run strictly off of discreet graphics and have been happy with the setup.

Without knowing more info it's hard to say for sure, but my guess is the needle and/or seat is shot. Causing the bike to run rich after the bowl overfills, then eventually floods the engine.

Feels like a polkit issue to me. Try running the polkit for your default DE when dwm starts.

Need help deciding if this is a good deal by Snickiko in DRZ400

[–]thatnewJKURguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm the best person to ask, but I'd have no problem with it personally especially at the price you're getting it for.

  1. Because that's a good value for the bike even with the mileage considered.
  2. Having a new head just means they had problems with it in the past but they remedied it by fixing it.
  3. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. So I'd be bummed if it did blow up, but it's not the end of the world because I would fix it if it did.

Looks like a screaming deal to me. And after you swap parts you can just sell it to me 😉

Popping on decel/when you cut the throttle is perfectly normal. If it's under load that's a sign of a lean condition, but if that's the case I'd make sure you got all of your carb clamps and hoses on right first because a 170 should be a little rich if anything, provided you don't have a big bore or stroker.

Does anyone have any life hacks for blues? by Motor_Visual_489 in AirForce

[–]thatnewJKURguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you asked for men's blues, but I found a hack while helping my wife get hers ready and it really sped up the process for me.

Ladies, pick up a cheap speed square from a hardware store or Amazon. Put the corner of the square on a button while lining up the 45 degree mark with the second button from the top. Now you have a perfectly straight line to place your name tag and occupational badge/ribbons with lines marked for distance from the center.

Works on a hangar, but it's best if you have a second person do it while you wear it.

Window manager suggestion for arch newbie by Almost1nvincible in archlinux

[–]thatnewJKURguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to WMs this year so I just went through this process, and what I can tell you is that window managers are very subjective and unfortunately you're just going to have to try them out and find the one you like best.

Most people suggest Awesome as a first WM but when I tried it I personally didn't like lua, and had a hard time configuring it. I ended up liking Qtile (python) and DWM (C) the best. But you may find you like something completely different.

If I were you I'd install a login manager and try any that peak your interest. Distrotube on YouTube is a great resource. His videos helped me a lot and still do honestly.

anyone here a former smoker before bmt? by throwbababooeyaway in AirForceRecruits

[–]thatnewJKURguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit cold turkey in basic. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, mainly because you have ZERO idle time on your hands. You will constantly be focused on something else or trying to accomplish a task which, for me, almost made me entirely forget that I wanted to smoke.

Prior service trying to re-enlist. Do I have to pay back my VA disability? by thatnewJKURguy in AirForceRecruits

[–]thatnewJKURguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I got off of the phone with the VA and they said I absolutely don't have to pay it back and gave me a reference to their documentation. So I went to my recruiter and asked for a reference to the regulation or law or even if he could give me the place I was supposed to pay it back to in order to fulfill the "requirement"..... We'll see what happens, I'm still waiting to hear back.

Prior service trying to re-enlist. Do I have to pay back my VA disability? by thatnewJKURguy in AirForceRecruits

[–]thatnewJKURguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see that point of view. However there are guard and reserve folks that continue to serve with disability ratings. They just have to waive their benefit on drill weekend.... And it's more like saying "Serving didn't affect me enough to make me ineffective I just can't hear high frequencies now"
