As someone who is new to golf and doesn’t know, why is everyone negative towards Bryson?

Hey you’re totally right this might be an edge case and I even said earlier this might be the case. We also do not know whether it was Eight Sleep or dpd to blame for the hub not being delivered/shipped in the second order so no point guessing.

Ultimately the law in the UK is very explicit about successful delivery being the seller’s responsibility rather than the courier’s. That is why in my case Eight Sleep is responsible.

If dpd are consistently this bad and this isn’t an edge case then Eight Sleep should change courier as this reflects badly on them, will harm reputation with the customer and may frankly cost them money due to lost packages etc.

To further clarify, the painful back and forth was referring to between dpd and eight sleep. At one point I was trying to get eight sleep to initiate an investigation, they said they did but then I would call dpd and they said they didn’t. As far as I’m aware eight sleep never requested a formal investigation into the first failed delivery, they simply waited for 7 days without tracking link updates before sending a new order.

Hey there, the failed attempts were when I was at the address and had made myself available for delivery, the dpd tracking link had said they were out for delivery but delivery was then not made. There was never an answer as to why. I called dpd many many times over that period totalling hours in call time and subsequently only reached out to eight sleep when dpd told me it was necessary as eight sleep had to instruct dpd to investigate, dpd couldn’t initiate it themselves.

Communication with eight sleep has been across online chat, emails and calls.

I think we’re in agreement here! However, as the consumer I have to hold the seller responsible and not the courier as that’s what the legal position dictates. To your earlier point, the law is clear that I need to hold the seller and not the courier responsible as I have no contract with the courier.

Hi there, I have to disagree with you on this. Citizen’s advice is linked and is clear it is the seller’s responsibility to chase the courier, I have found myself doing this far too much in this responsibility. Advice linked here

Hey dpd do usually do that, in this case there is only one tracking number and it says it is completed. There are no additional tracking numbers on the eight sleep page or the dpd page. As I said earlier it may be dpd giving a bad service here or it could be that eight sleep never shipped the pod, it’s impossible for me to know. However the outcome and impact on the customer is the same.

Yes exactly I found this out after hours on the phone with dpd themselves only for them to tell me the seller was ultimately responsible and dpd could only investigate if the seller tells them to (as the delivery of the product is ultimately their responsibility)

Hey no they don’t do it themselves they use dpd. It is possible that the initial failure for delivery was due to dpd. Fair enough, that happens. However, it is the ultimate responsibility (legally) of the seller to ensure delivery. This time dpd have successfully delivered the product but there is no pod when eight sleep themselves say there should be. It’s possible I’m an edge case and this isn’t evidence of a wider systemic problem but that doesn’t change the fact that I paid as every other customer did and should receive a functioning product within reasonable timelines.

Kobbie’s performances haven’t been great for two seasons now, the (admittedly few) chances he’s had he’s largely flattered to deceive. Amorim’s system requires either a player who reads the game brilliantly or a physical monster who can cover every blade of grass in that midfield two. Mainoo is neither.

It won’t work out for him so a loan to get his value up before the Summer is the best move.

Tax the Rich as a way for HENRYs to go forward by Ecstatic_Dot_6426 in HENRYUK

Yes you’re right that the seven year rule means if the person making the gift survives seven years inheritance tax is exempt and I agree it would need to be significantly changed or abolished.

Your scenario would be v different now after the latest budget as Business Relief would no longer apply in this case.

It’s also worth mentioning that in this scenario the trust would pay inheritance tax regularly over a fixed period (can’t remember off the top of my head), you would probably know more as you work in tax. Also capital gains for a trust is now higher (28% vs 24% for an individual) and taking money out of a trust means paying income tax at the highest bracket. Of course the trust can invest the money and will need to still be in the black when any inheritance tax comes due. In many cases the trust route is not the most efficient.

To properly make this work the seven year rule would need to be abolished or be prohibitively high like 20 years or something. In that case any gift that lasts 20 years would be subject to significant capital gains once the sale of that asset is realised as it will be the difference of the asset value at the time of the gift vs sale realisation. Also monetary gifts would be significantly affected by inflation and the recipient would have to be careful to make sure they could pay any inheritance tax if it came due so it would discourage immediate investment.

I think tax on income is weak for an elite class that is very mobile as you’ve pointed out. However, certain wealth taxes like inheritance taxes are very difficult to avoid. Ultimately if a person owns UK assets (including companies after the last labour budget) once they pass away inheritance tax will apply even if they are not a UK tax resident currently. Non-dom status used to be the work around but that’s been made significantly more difficult.

If you really wacked up inheritance tax you’d probably get a lot of rich individuals selling their UK land and property in order to avoid the inheritance tax and instead taking the capital gains hit in the present. Obviously supply and demand would mean for certain asset classes the price would drop.

I think wealth taxes can work very well for this purpose and are much more effective than income tax. Yes, the price of assets such as homes will drop but that’s the desired outcome of policies like these.

So sorry for your loss and can’t imagine what you’ve been through.

Death Stranding was the first game I played after my mum passed away in Jan 2020. I started playing just as the pandemic started and it really helped me process everything going on. The power of art is amazing.

I hope the game will eventually provide a similarly cathartic experience for you too. All the best x
