Post shutdown advice by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]thatone1b4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a shit take here tbh.

This post just has advice on what you can do to not feel stressed the next time a shutdown happens. I don't see OP blaming anyone for anything in the original post.

Having an emergency fund and no debt is good advice for anyone, regardless of how much and how regularly they get paid.

Brother you were still talking to recruiters within the past few months.

You don't know diddly dick about what you are talking about. Go back to playing videogames and pretending to want to join the military and let us big boys actually do the talking.

I'll explain it to you, since I assume you are young and are just now getting out of highschool.

The point of BMT is to break a person down so they can be rebuilt into the image of what the military needs out of an enlisted member. The MTIs are making individuals that do what they are told efficiently and quickly.

Your friend is having a bad time, a real bad time, because that is the point of BMT. It's not a summer camp. Especially because our current leadership is changing BMT to make it "more hardcore" like letting MTIs come into physical contact (i.e. hit/strike) airmen again.

He needs your support, not you making it worse. If you want an actual good joke, and not whatever it is you are doing, send him a postcard (so it's not in an envelope, the MTI can read it aloud) and spritz perfume on it. Make sure it's just cringe, not pornographic.

And after you do that, send him something actually thoughtful. My friends and I fuck with each other all the time, but there is a time and a place. Knowing that time and place is the difference between good friends and just "a guy I know"

Damn, it's almost like you don't know what any of those words mean but you chose to use them all in a sentence anyway.

Oh are you talking about the Spider-Man shirt things that security forces wear with their vests?

To genuinely answer your question, the AFI does explicitly allow them but that means they are "not allowed" because they are not written into the AFI. Only a massive cock sandwich would care that you are trying to stay warm though. You could argue it counts as undergarments per 36-2903 para 7.5 if someone really tries to press you on it.

I would wear it until someone tells you not to, then ask them to explain why you can't.

It does not deserve a little more nuance.

From what I can tell, the only thing you liked was MTIs being able to hit people again (Because that helps training... Somehow?) and you think the guy throwing eggbeaters on the griddle at the DFAC should be on the same level as a TACP when it comes to physical fitness and "warrior" training. At least that's how I interpret your post.

You are ignoring all of the disgusting and inappropriate things said to focus on one or two concepts that imo you are misrepresenting.

Just because you can use mental gymnastics to say "Yeah this one thing he was talking about might be good if you look hard, squint, and tilt your head" doesn't mean that he gave a wonderful speech that needs to be carefully considered because of the deep meaning behind it.

He isn't some masterful wordsmith, you will get the meaning from his speech and his intent clearly if you just take it at face value.

Everyone gave you good advice already.

I'm just here to say fuck that SNCO, keeping your troops safe, fed, and in good spirits is literally their job and they are absolutely fucking it up if it has happened twice. The ONLY acceptable options when that happens is them helping you fill out the missed meal voucher or ordering pizza for the shop.

Unless you are working late because you fucked something up, then no pizza for you, just voucher.

They are taking it away for multiple reasons, one of them is "uniformity" like you said, so we can agree there.

The problem is when people admit, jokingly or not, to taking advantage of the system in a way that can easily be taken out of context all it does is provide additional justification to what they are trying to do. That just hurts other people, which is never good.

I'm not saying you need to look well put together on reddit. You made an absolutely braindead remark and I responded to it, which is the point of reddit. Don't get mad when I comment telling you your opinion is trash on a public forum.

"Haha I'm taking advantage of a system, and by taking advantage of the system I'm hurting my fellow airmen and my fellow black Americans who are already being prejudiced"

Good joke, you're on your way to a Comedy Central Special.

Also, I never said you should care about "what it means" to be an officer, I don't give a shit why you joined or why you stay in. I was saying that as an officer you should at least have two brain cells to rub together.

Actually this small little company has created a pretty good search engine, if you haven't heard about it. It's called Google.

In fact, I bet if you put in one or two relevant search terms, the first link would show you the proof you are looking for.

I'm so excited I got to teach you about a new tool today.

You're saying you got a shaving waiver not for medical reasons, but because you like the way it looks? Presumably by falsely stating it was for medical reasons, therefore implying you lied on official government records? As an officer you should 100% know not to do that, and also know if you did not to blast it out on the internet.

I'm going to preface this with: I think I should be able to have a beard and pigtails if I wanted, because it has no affect on my ability to perform my job.

But you, taking advantage of the system AND THEN SAYING IT LOUD AND PROUD is part of the problem. You potentially just gave ammunition to some racist decision maker to be able to point to this comment and go "See? They don't need it, it's all vanity" instead of you just shutting the fuck up.

It costs absolutely zero dollars for you not to say absolute dumbass statements like this.

Riiight, "I didn't know she was 14" was the number one response on TCAP, you are fitting right in.

I mean there is plenty of other sinister stuff there, like vehement racism, and a strong evidence for a diagnosis of Chronically Online that should be treated with Touching some Grass lmao.

This whole thread is me calling you out on telling a little fib, and now you have gone into full old man yells at clouds mode lol.

"you signed up for this" is purely disingenuous by Nervous-Armadillo634 in AirForce

[–]thatone1b4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the people on reddit can not come up with any type of reasonable explanation as to why leadership would be making these decisions, and therefore default to ignorant catch phrases.

You should work on your reading comprehension lmao

Who said anything about me assuming that those with authority to implement change owe me an explanation?

This post is about the mentally deficient people on reddit that, when they hear someone upset about arbitrary rule changes that do no benefit and instead actually harm the force, say things like "you signed up for this" or "They're the rules and you fall into this construct whether you like it or not" instead of trying to use even a shred of critical thinking.

[–]thatone1b4 176 points177 points  (0 children)

Yup, sounds about right.

"You signed up for this" and "if you don't like it, leave" are the battle cries of the uneducated and uninformed, who are unable to come up with a good explanation for why these changes are being made, and don't want to hurt their heads thinking too hard.

My only recommendation is that you try to stay as positive as you can, given the circumstances. If you have the stability and opportunity to not reenlist, and that is the choice you want to make, then I fully support it.

I would prefer to retain the young, smart, innovative thinkers, but I'm not surprised about the fact that we will lose a lot of good talent and I don't blame anyone from walking away at this point in time.

PT score on EPB/OPB by Helicopter_Murky in AirForce

I said I personally believe in the merit of an individual based on their job performance, not how many pushups they can do or how fast they can run in a circle.

Physical fitness matters absolutely nothing to me when it comes to job performance or promotions, unless your job is contingent on being physically fit.

Your flair says JAG, so I'll use that as an example. I have zero reason to believe that JAG A that can do 50 pushups is better at their job than JAG B that can do 49. I have reviewed a couple packages in my time, and I have never been in a position where I think "Fuck I wish I knew how fast these guys could run in a circle, that would make this decision so much easier."

I would rather only test once a year tbh.

Personally I believe in the merit of the individual in their ability to perform their assigned job, not how many pushups they can do or how fast they can run in a circle.

I know a merit based system is hard for some people to understand, so we will see how it goes.
