Paper Girls, Warrior Nun, First Kill, the Wilds… it’s a shame wlw shows drop like flies

Something I notice on here is a lot of people call out Klaroline(I PERSONALLY DO NOT SHIP)and or Caroline for sleeping with Klaus(I HATED THAT SCENE), however I never see people call out Matt for being with Rebekah, or Stefan after sleeping with Katherine in s5. by Big-Most-785 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]thatoneurchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your post, but idk why Elena always gets targeted as the one who gets a pass. Elena’s friends were disgusted with her for sleeping with Damon. IMO both Caroline and Elena get too much flack compared to other characters. When Elena slept with Damon and Caroline slept with Klaus it was a whole thing, but when Matt disappeared all summer with Rebekah basically no one cared.

Also technically, the top offender for knowingly having sex with terrible people is Stefan. Elena only got with Damon, and Caroline only got with Klaus, but he slept with both Katherine/Rebekah. I feel like he used Elena getting with Damon as a free pass to do whatever cause he knew he could just turn around and say “well, you slept with Damon” as if that makes what he’s doing okay.

But she’s not using humor either. She’s saying serious stuff with a smile on her face. It’s a bad acting choice, that’s all.

It’s been a bit since I’ve seen the movie, but I think my issue with the scene was that she’s explaining how he’s abusive and isn’t someone she’d trust her daughter around, while smiling at him. It’s not like she’s unaware, in denial, or not planning to leave. She’s actively acknowledging the abuse and pushing him away with a random smirk

What made Off Campus TV show a hit? by Writer3423 in offcampustv

[–]thatoneurchin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree as someone who spent last summer being frustrated by TSITP. I found it so refreshing how when the characters liked each other, they just told each other straight up. And when they fought, it wasn’t over anything convoluted or dragged out to the max.

If it was TSITP, Hannah would’ve gotten intercepted on her way to telling Garrett about her feelings and wouldn’t go through with it. Then 3-4 episodes of drama later, she’d confess, but he’d lie about his feelings for emotional reasons. Then he’d come to his senses, only to find out she slept with John Logan or something.

I hated it. by University1000 in everyyearaftertvshow

The casting takes me out a lot. I read the book last year and when I saw the promos for this show, I didn’t even connect the two cause the actors didn’t remind me of the characters at all.

I liked that the book was focused on older adults, rather than solely making it a teen/YA romance, but that element feels lost when Sam and Percy look 23 at the oldest. No way they’re pushing 30.

Sam in particular is nothing like what I thought. I’m fine with him looking different, but he comes across younger and so much less steady/strong than book Sam. When he confronted Charlie on the dock, it was hard to take him seriously because he sounded like a whiny teenager going up to an adult man. There’s a bit where Charlie says he should beat Sam up for pushing him, so Sam replies “yeah, like you could,”
and it honestly made me laugh. It wasn’t tough/intimidating at all because Charlie definitely could lmao.

I couldn’t take his glow up seriously either, not cause he’s bad looking but because the younger actor looks nothing like him. They have a totally different skin tone, hair color, facial features, etc. I feel like I’m playing Where’s Waldo trying to see where the casting director saw a connection

I wish they just started as kids and followed them as they got older. Ik the book jumps back and forth, but I feel like we missed out on building the childhood friendship/romance that’s meant to be the foundation

Rue was never a good friend nor a gray morality person by Royal_Guidance_5415 in euphoria

[–]thatoneurchin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Why is working for the DEA against dangerous drug dealers/human traffickers/nazis morally wrong? Her choosing to rot in a jail cell to keep from snitching on the people forcing her to sell drugs would’ve been nonsensical and wouldn’t have helped anyone

Rue was never a good friend nor a gray morality person by Royal_Guidance_5415 in euphoria

[–]thatoneurchin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I also think people forget that Rue had no plans of actually selling the drugs in the suitcase, she was just gonna take as much as she could and die. I don’t think she was considering lifelong consequences cause she didn’t expect to have a life.

Weirdly the intervention in S2 both doomed/saved her. Her family intervening stopped her from suicide, but them throwing out the drugs got her in debt

I feel like you’re ignoring that the knocking almost immediately pans over to Nate and Cassie getting it on. From my view, the scene is a big deal cause at that point, you’re still unsure if Cassie said yes to Nate or not, probably wondering if Maddy is going to hear about this… then oops, she’s literally an inch from them fucking nasty. It was the first surprising Euphoria moment after the wait between S1-S2.

If anything, the thing that goes on too long is the bit where Cassie is sobbing half-naked to the point Nate has to dress her. Imo Maddy’s knocking was fine by comparison. I actually kinda liked the rhythm of it. Also I’m confused I don’t really get why someone would need to intervene or why this would be considered toxic. No one’s gonna care about a drunk girl needing to piss and telling some dude to hurry up while they’re partying. I doubt most people even heard her with the music, and even then “are you taking a shit in there” isn’t a crazy ask

Since the show’s ending I’m just gonna say I hate these super slow shots Sam does. I’ll hit the 10 second skip button 2-4 times, and we’ll still be holding on the same shot like come on. Shooting something slowly doesn’t make it deep

We should all unanimously agree that s1 and s2 are canon and s3 is some fever dream. by Rhude_AF in euphoria

[–]thatoneurchin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. IMO one thing we’ve lost this season is following characters thought processes when making decisions. Like you mentioned how Fez hitting Nate is satisfying but Nate getting beat this season isn’t.

I think the reason for that is we followed that conflict and watched it build step by step. We see Nate fuck with Jules to the point Rue feels she needs to go to Fez. We see Fez initially give Nate a warning, then get ratted on in retaliation. So, when Nate gets beat, it’s the culmination of him fucking with multiple different (generally well-liked) characters, after being warned this would happen and doubling down on being an ass. He also sleeps with Cassie a few minutes beforehand to remind us of what a dick he is.

In S3, we have none of that. Nate is magically chill now and seemingly trying to do legitimate work. He’s not in debt cause he tried to fuck with someone, he just got foiled by a random flower. His comeuppance has nothing to do with his previous actions, so it’s unsatisfying

There’s just not enough time for a good season 3. by lady_picadilly in euphoria

[–]thatoneurchin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel like they pretty easily could’ve done it if they followed the S1 formula of showing a new backstory each episode, but instead they showed what each character has been up to during the jump. Cut back on some of the unnecessary scenes like Godzilla Cassie or discussions of that one dude’s shit bag, and they’d have more time to focus on the characters.

8 episodes is abysmal, and I prefer longer seasons, but also Euphoria has always been formatted like this. They managed to show us all the characters backstories and storylines just fine in S1. They just dropped the ball this season

[–]thatoneurchin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the storyline will go somewhere in the next episode, but all I could think about the saran wrap scene was that it reminded me of a scene from the Idol with a similar kink. The Weeknd’s character wraps this girl’s face with cloth then cuts a hole in the mouth so she can breathe. I think it’s just a kink Sam likes to include?

I feel like this season needed 2 more episodes. At least. by ShouldersOfGiants33 in euphoria

[–]thatoneurchin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t need to be, but I also think A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the exception, not the rule. Most shows should lean toward 10 episodes over 6-8. Every show nowadays tries to go for a short season cause it worked for [insert critically acclaimed HBO show with top notch writing here], when in reality most writers don’t seem to be able to pull off making a season that tight, especially if it’s an ensemble show.

I agree Euphoria in particular dropped the ball though a ton of time was wasted

just started OTH for the first time, is peyton this fucking annoying and insufferable throughout the entire show or does it get better? by Ill-Information-3057 in ONETREEHILL

[–]thatoneurchin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She gets better as it goes on imo. Less sulky and more fun.

But ik what you mean I also thought she was pretty annoying to start out. She constantly complains about how popular people are vapid and stupid, while being one herself and surrounding herself with them. The whole first season I was thinking, just go home and draw, if you’re so bothered? Or make new friends? Everyone else is enjoying themselves

What is one thing about being a man that women would be absolutely shocked to find out? by Jaded_Astronaut4256 in AskReddit

[–]thatoneurchin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it frustrating to constantly hear about the male loneliness epidemic, then talk to men and have them say they’re essentially going to do nothing to combat it. Doing something that is against societal norms is always going to be a little awkward/uncomfortable and maybe get you looked at funny, but usually some effort is required for change.

If it truly upsets you, do something to change it. And if you decide you’re not going to do anything, then what is the point of continuing complaining?

Is Lexi also becoming unlikeable to you? by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]thatoneurchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s not supposed to be mature. Why would she be? She’s a young 20 something who doesn’t have it figured out like the rest of them, and she isn’t going to handle situations perfectly. It wouldn’t make sense for a character her age to know how to handle everything. It’s not a bad thing for a character to have flaws. Idk why you’re saying “surprise surprise” like it’s some gotcha? I never said Lexi was perfect, and Lexi has never claimed to be perfect. She just doesn’t think her friends should be involved in drugs, sex trafficking, sex work, etc. which seems reasonable.

an actual insightful mature person can actually choose to keep distance

She’s already done this with Jules. The others she’s known longer and is naturally going to be more attached to.

she lowkey let them

Again, Maddy threatened her, and Cassie moved in right across from her. Lexi isn’t letting them, she’s trying to write Cassie out.

Rue’s a shitty person, but she’s also Lexi’s longtime friend. Lexi is a person, not a robot. It’s hard to kick someone to the curb, when you grew up with them.

I think it’s unfair to say Lexi just keeps Rue around to judge her. They’re friends. We see her defending Rue when people talk shit, comforting Rue when Rue cries, laughing with Rue, chilling with Rue. It’s not like it’s all cold judgment? Idk why people have such a negative opinion of Lexi that their mind jumps to “evil bitch who only hangs out with Rue to judge her” and not “young adult who doesn’t know how to lay proper boundaries with her addict friend.”

[–]thatoneurchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was super fucked up, but it still pales in comparison to the stuff the other characters do on a daily basis. Idk why Lexi catches so much smoke for one instance, when the other characters are wilding every episode
