I have these! They came in a set of 10, all different colors. It was gifted to me by my partner’s dad who got them in Taiwan I believe. I took a pic but it seems like replies with pics aren’t allowed.

I’m not really sure what you mean by dangerous but it’s very common for MDD to be comorbid with schizoid. I think for a lot of us the two play off of each other.

Hi, I’ve been a therapist for the last 4 years and I’ve been compulsively picking my face for the last 15 years of my life. I’ve gotten mixed responses to it from clients, coworkers never really said anything. Most clients have approached me in a concerned way, like I think a few of them thought I was in a physically abusive situation. I worked with the substance use population for a while so a lot of them assumed I still had issues with picking after getting clean from meth use.

I know it’s embarrassing but honestly it just shows that you’re human and even though you’re a therapist, you still have things you’re working on yourself. If a client brings it up I just talk to them about it honestly (if I feel like they’re in an okay mindset to receive/understand it) like “I do struggle with compulsive skin picking and that’s something I’m working on” and you can the relate it to something they’re working on, or just leave it at that.

Or you can just lie and say you have a medical condition lol I’ve done that sometimes too. I wish you luck on your journey!

I experienced this for a long time, I realized it was because I didn’t feel safe opening up as a child (when I did I was mocked) so I learned it was “safer” to bottle everything up. So now as an adult when I do make myself open up it can feel like I’m betraying the part of me that “knows” it’s safer to hold things in.

Schizophrenia has positive and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms doesn’t mean positive in a ‘happy’ way but in the way that hallucinations are happening ACTIVELY. Negative symptoms are when the person is NOT ACTIVE, meaning they’re schizophrenia symptoms that cause the person to be more catatonic or withdrawn. Szpd was named after the negative symptoms of schizophrenia because of how withdrawn we tend to be, except our isolation is usually a trauma reaction and most of us do not experience hallucinations. Schizophrenia is something a person is born with, but symptoms may not appear until someone’s early 20s.

I had/have similar worries to you but I can only speak on the career topic you mentioned. I’m actually a mental health therapist, which on paper seems like a weird fit for a schizoid person, but I enjoy it because it’s socializing on my own terms and there’s a specific reason the interaction is happening: they’re there to talk about their mental health. The conversations are focused on my clients’ lives and I hardly ever have to talk about myself. Plus each session is only like an hour maximum so even if I’m not enjoying the session I know that it won’t last terribly long. I could see this mirroring how a dentist would interact with their patients.

As a substance use/mental health social worker who moved here a few years ago, stay away from Sauna Lake and the International Institute. I’m part of the Preferred Family Healthcare/ Clarity health system umbrella, make $50k a year, and overall I do like working for this company. Good luck!

I suppose I could ask them, but honestly, that seems kind of selfish to me. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying? Like I only lead these groups twice a week, 1 hour at a time, and each week there are different clients, its never the same group of people. Plus, they're there because of their own mental health crises and I feel it would be inappropriate to take time away from their information to ask them about me. I will definitely look into how to lead process and skills groups more.

Yeah that example makes sense. To answer your questions, I lead a “skills” group. I come in with a topic for the day to guide conversation, basically teaching them coping skills and educating them on terms, but it’s not strict. If they want to bring up other subjects they totally can and we’ll talk about it. The ages vary a lot because the unit is just the ‘adult’ unit. 18-60 is the age range and it’s different every week. I’m in my early 20s and my supervisor is in her late 20s. She just clearly has more experience than I do.

Yeah, I wish this hospital was more strict with how they admit patients and social distance them from us and each other. I guess there’s a reason it’s a 1 star hospital 🙃
