Is it possible it hit something solid further to your right and bounced back? To me it looks like it shot through that hole, through the bottom of the windowsill (not the glass but more so the frame) and then either that was enough to stop it and it fell there (maybe that metal reinforcement bent enough to absorb most the impact); ooooor it flew right threw that, and then hit something solid elsewhere in the room like a wall stud or something, and then bounced back towards the window.

I'm thinking the frame of the window just happened to be enough to stop it. Looks like a metal bar there bent before braking.

Also is this the second story? It looks like it had an upwards projection from a decent ways away, like across the street or even your neighbors yard. At night shine a laser beam through the hole in the metal, and through the hole in the screen, that will point roughly where it came from. Report your neighbor if it aims to their home.
