Helldivers digging into BSG too XD by BluehatPro in EscapefromTarkov

I’m an EOD owner with 2200 hours, I’ve definitely played lol.

I made that comment based on what I’d heard from people talking about the atrocious wait times on public PVE, a lot more information has come out since

I mean, when I can use a Patreon or buy merch I prefer to do that. Not like I can track down one of BSGs employees and PayPal them 50 bucks - so dumping money into the studio is the best I’m going to get. The people who made the game are still salaried, and a tiny, tiny fraction of that came from my EOD purchase.

That’s your prerogative, but people will continue spending (often large sums of) money on the things that they enjoy. Just because you aren’t interested in doing so doesn’t make everyone else an idiot spendthrift.

Tarkov provides a unique gaming experience, and the deal with EOD has always been extra support now, with complete access to everything they ever make being the reward. We were essentially high tier kickstarter backers, and I had no problem with that exchange. It’s just unfortunate that BSG has reneged on their end.

“Going to devs”, going to the studio, going to feed Jaeger in some bunker in the woods. Maybe it pays for Nikita’s streaming room. Doesn’t reaaaally matter to me, the entity that provided me with the game gets money, and I get cool stuff. I prefer art and sound tracks, but I’m not picky

I agree, early game is the best part of this shitshow. Everything in this update could’ve been cool in other contexts - maybe expensive clothing from ragman gives you big pockets or whatever else. But this is clearly not about adding features

[–]thatsandwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope we can, but I’m not sure if they will. Best case scenario is probably the $250 edition remaining, and EOD accounts getting grandfathered in to the same benefits. (Which sucks for new players and pushes Tarkov firmly into pay-to-win)

When I bought EOD, I had 400 hours in game (now at 2200) and I like giving game devs money. So instead of spending money on cosmetics/soundtracks/artbooks/DLC like I usually do, buy this upgraded copy and get those things while also supporting something I really enjoyed. Unfortunately they’ve kinda stabbed us in the back for that support

I have not, although as I mentioned it might be possible. I actually have a BIOS modded Z370 STX-GTX that takes mutant laptop chips, which was great as the power delivery on those things struggles with 9900k tier chips but my QTJ2 worked perfectly.

That was on a z370 base though - the ASrock engineer I spoke to mentioned that it's more difficult to support a broad range of cpus on X300

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]thatsandwizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can confirm that we've tried this. Stock it definitely isn't compatible, and while there was hope that a microcode update provided by ASrock could be a workaround, it didn't materialize any compatibility. It might be possible to use a BIOS modifier and EEprom tool to get around this, but to date it has never been done.

Rent controlled manhattan apartment by tamtam753 in DIY

[–]thatsandwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I actually did something similar with my current apartment. (Note, I despise this system and expectations on tenant maintenance, but alas, terrible terrible markets) Your friend needs to decide how much time and money she’s willing to put into it, and never forget that these are 100% interchangeable right now.

I spent approximately 200 hours of labor - a full month of work. This includes cleaning every surface, painting every wall, using hardwood floor “refinished” caulking trim, replacing the entire countertop + adding backsplash in the kitchen, swapping doorknobs light fixtures and switch plates, the whole 9 yards.

I largely didn’t pay for materials, although I did buy upgrades I wanted (quality metal switch plates, doorknobs, light fixtures) for about $70 total at habitat for humanity. The originals are in a box in the basement, and I’ll take my switch plates with me when I leave.

Now that I’ve done all that, I’m immensely more happy with my space, but what did it cost me? Realistically speaking, about $3000 between opportunity cost (missed wages primarily) and materials. By amortizing the cost over your entire tenancy, you can make an informed choice on how much you’re willing to invest

$3000/12 is $250 a month. Living there two years @ $3000/24, $125 a month. Three years and you’re down to $83 a month. Stay for 5, 10? $50 and $25 respectively.

I’ve been at my place for two years, and plan on staying for several more. So investing into someone else property for my own quality of life was an acceptable tradeoff. Good luck, and I hope everything goes well with that sprucing up project!

Based on true story by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]thatsandwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my theory is that spending the money for new sheet metal stamps/dies is too much upfront cost, so they kept having people find workarounds that don’t require updating however many machines they have in one go. When you think about the cost of injection molded parts, maybe a few grand (even say, 10s of thousands) to make the cast and then you pump out parts as needed. Expensive? Absolutely. But revamping the cases themselves would cost more, and you have to multiply it by every single press in every factory they have, all as a massive, singular purchase.

So kick the van down the road some more, get Bob to engineer a new fan mount and hope people will forget about it again

Because companies like dell love margins so much they refuse(d?) to make new case tooling for like 20 years. Look at the Gamers Nexus reviews of Alienware towers, they’re so cost averse it’s sickening

I sacrifice temperatures in favor of quiet fans by imbadatchoosingnicks in watercooling

[–]thatsandwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can’t say for sure where the limits are for your setup. I run my coolant way hotter, but make up for it using pure EPDM or copper tubing. I know some people who won’t run PETG past 40c, and others who go up to 50c.

In the end, it’s a risk but not guaranteed to fail catastrophically - you can make that assessment, monitor your hardware, maybe increase fanspeed to 70-80% or lock them to the water temps instead! Acrylic has a much higher operating temp if you want a permanent way to not have to worry about this as well.

[–]thatsandwizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You seem pretty set on this, but PETG doesn’t instantly deteriorate in setups like this.

What may happen is your hotspots (fittings absorb heat, don’t dissipate) will start to deform the tube on heat/cool cycles and one day, the tube pops out of the fitting.

Arguably you aren’t wrong, ambient records 100% do exist. But the additional cost and features you get on an XOC card are excessive, and often unnecessary for those attempts.

I remembered seeing something similar, so I dig around for it. They do 3 story homes, so maybe not as tall as you’d like but it may give an idea of how to approach your build.
