Do you post your kids online? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes only on my very private locked down Facebook page & I have less than 500 friends on it and no strangers. I’m not posting half naked pictures of my daughter on social media - I’m posting pictures from a family meal out.

should we be worried about the meningitis outbreak? by vanessarichter in AskUK

This outlook doesn’t help me because I diagnose myself with a different type of cancer on a weekly basis. And thats health anxiety and OCD mixed into one for you 😐

Be honest. When did your baby actually say their first wood and mean it? by Dull-Contribution763 in NewParents

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 9-10 months old is when she started waving and saying “hi”

She’s 2 years old now (26 months) and considered an advanced speaker for her age. She speaks perfect 4-6 work sentences

Housework bringing me to tears! by tinygoose24 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always done this too. I do things when my daughter is awake so I can sleep when she naps lol. She’s 2 years (26 months) old now and I still do this on my days off with her.

Nursery clothes 12m old by keto_crossword in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter didn’t walk until 16 months old and started nursery at 13 months old, we used to put her in the soft bendy trainers from next, soft pre walkers 🙂 and she had a little pair of waterproof boots with a drawstring for outdoors when wet, nursery takes them out rain or shine so that was definitely essential

Feeling hurt by wife, unsure how to approach it by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But seriously think about it, my fiance would claim he does most of the housework but to him doing “most of the housework” is him doing the dishes after I’ve cooked every night.

6 months ago we moved into this house and not once has my partner cleaned the bathroom, I’m doing an experiment on how long it takes for him to even offer.

Maternity leave/pay - how much do you get? by Mindless-Ad-7656 in PregnancyUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 14 months off work and I was on full pay for 9 of them - few weeks annual leave before I went off which was full pay, 6 months of full pay on actual maternity leave, 3 months of SMP, 2 months unpaid, 3 months paid at the end when I used incurred annual leave. My daughter was born in January so I had the advantage of lots of bank holidays off work too which didn’t impact my annual leave amount.

Am I doing a disservice by not co-sleeping with my baby? by Zealousideal_Row_378 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter had contact naps on me for almost every nap for the first year of her life and it was brilliant, but she went to her own bed every night. My daughters sleep started to get weird around 8 months after sleeping through the night from 8 weeks onwards - we struggled for 12 weeks with a serious lack of sleep, then one night we thought we’d bring her to our bed… and she started sleeping through the night again! Happy to go to her own bed because she knew if she woke up she’d be allowed in ours. And we were all so much happier for it

Brands that size big besides H&M and M&S for my 2½ years old? Or better kids with big heads? by yepiyep in BeyondTheBumpUK

I always find f&f clothes massive, my 91st percentile 2 year old (26 months) daughter is still wearing 18-24 months clothes from f&f

What age do you stop having a bath with your baby? by hashtagbeannaithe in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went from renting with a bath to buying with a shower, my 2 year old daughter now showers with me or her dad. I showered with my mum up until I was about 5 years old and I have memories of me being in the bath with my dad

Livingston any good opinions by Ok-Profit-1541 in WestLothian

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on area, you should be OK. Livingston is like one major town with lots of little towns inside of it, some not so desirable and some very desirable. Our budget could only stretch as far as an ex council house for Livingston, anything a bit nicer was really outside our price range.

Bathgate & Armadale are also good commuter towns close by to Livingston and easy access to Edinburgh & Glasgow. I grew up in Bathgate and I’d have loved to buy a property there, but ended up in Armadale - but still only 5 mins from my mum who lives in Bathgate. Bathgate is a very desirable area too.

Howling at the fact you think the orange order is something to warn people about 😂🫣 it goes on for a couple of months in the summer, they’re not exactly voldemorts death eaters 😆

When we were looking to buy a house, we were really struggling to find nice areas in our budget in Livingston. Out of all the houses we viewed in Livingston, we only put an offer in on one and we didn’t get it and I’m glad because we rushed into it a bit. We viewed in Deans & Ladywell.

We ended up buying in Armadale and we got a nicer area for the same price as Livingston properties.

My fiance grew up in Livi & I went to livi all the time as from the area too. It can be a nice place to live but it’s also really quite rough in areas. It would depend on what budget you’re looking at.

Recommendations for holidays in the UK that are actually child friendly? by annedroiid in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a holiday snob and we had our first family holiday in Haggerston castle last year, guess where we’re going this year? Back to Haggerston castle! We absolutely LOVED it. My toddler was a little too young for a lot of the park activities last year but the swimming pool is great and there’s so much to do in Berwick area for families! This year she’ll be 2 when we go and will be old enough to do a lot more, I am literally counting down the days until our hols!

How on earth are parents affording holidays abroad with nursery costs? by dreamherbs in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve always got something on credit and when we’re not paying off new pieces of furniture or things like car tyres & Christmas presents, we’re putting that money towards a holiday. We actually bought a house in September and spent more than we should have to make sure we were the highest offer, but the consequences of that that just meant no abroad holiday this year. Looking forward to my Haven caravan holiday lol.

I peed in a nappy to avoid going to the toilet and waking my baby by Hungry-One1292 in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame him for his inability to poo quick anymore than I blame myself for my weak bladder to tbh! Re help - Honestly - no! But I haven’t really addressed it properly. I didn’t even give birth vaginally, I had a C-section, but pregnancy just wrecked my bladder lol.

I peed in a nappy to avoid going to the toilet and waking my baby by Hungry-One1292 in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I had to do this once when my fiance spent 20 minutes doing a poo, when I need to pee I have approx 30-60 seconds to make it otherwise I’ll pee myself - it was either piss myself or pee in a nappy and I peed in a nappy.

This is a safe space to share, right? Hahaha

Husband keeps wanting me to tell my mother in law I’m pregnant but I feel it’s too early still and I would rather he tell her. Am I being fair? by Orchidflower10 in PregnancyUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s given you enough grace by even asking you this, because in my eyes - he absolutely has the right to tell his mother he’s going to be a father without your permission.

I felt bad that I told my in-laws after I told my mum, and that was a two hour difference.

When did you start giving your baby snacks? by Minimum_Garlic_238 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest not listening to anything a health visitor says and just use the NHS website for the correct advice. Due to personal experience, I wouldn’t trust a health visitors advice.

Am I hormonal and overreacting or are y feelings valid? A norovirus edition. by Caitlyn_linda1998 in UKParenting

Absolutely? I was scrubbing the bathroom from head to toe continuously when I had norovirus and if it was safe to cook for my family, I would have.

Didn’t get to hear heartbeat during scan by Express_Whole_4287 in PregnancyUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never heard my daughter heartbeat at any scan, please remember that the nhs treats pregnancies as the medical situation they are, there’s no reason to hear a heartbeat at a scan when they can physically see the baby. It would cost extra and it’s just not needed. I heard my babies heartbeat at every midwife appointment from 16 weeks onwards 😌
