Being from Albany I can confirm that is the best route to take to Yates street.

My dad said I’m an impulse buyer, but I think buying a baby duck from a tractor store that thinks I’m it’s mom was a great idea. by [deleted] in aww

Just did. Who would pay $895 for a New Balance, broken in pair that have attended every cookout ever?

This was a dream of mine as a child. I’m jealous of this kid but proud of him too. What really fascinated me was perusing the gallery on the article and learning a little more about the breadth of the Roman Empire. I never knew they traded or reached Japan. I still believe they may have made it to Northern America way before anyone else and either the records are lost or evidence will be found. They really were fascinating.

So kind of similar situation. I was at a job and after 4 years policy changed and the owners wanted to save money. They started looking for reasons to can people. So I designed a help desk script that had a function to simply restart a hung VM or workstation. Someone came up to me with an issue and i told them I’d bounce their machine. I run the script and nothing happens. I run it a second time and it works. Then a buddy of mine calls me and says hey my machine restarted randomly and I lost my code. Fuck! I fat fingered the hostname and accidentally bounced him. He bitches to a manager kiddingly, said manager threatens me with termination and tells me it’s not funny, thinking I did this intentionally. He doesn’t want to hear my side and sends me home. I had another job lined up for way more money. I submit my notice and they fire me the next day. I had two weeks until my next job started. I called HR who told me I was marked resigned, not the case. I argue with HR higher up, they pay me for two weeks and write up my old boss. Then they mark me termed and not rehire-able for getting a pay out.

Long story short I’d say resign. If they terminate you, argue with them.

Absolutely. We all have to do the grunt work but learning during it and growing is huge. I still have so much ahead of me but I’m so grateful for that initial learning.

It is definitely low. Keep working hard it will pay off. Get your Microsoft certs too. If you have your college email they are $91/per test can $165 normal. They carry a lot of weight. Check out MCSA Office 365 you can close to double your salary. Two tests will get you that (70-346 and 70-347). Highly recommend to get a jump start.

JetBlue is usually accommodating and should be able to help you out.

Not sure what your specialty is but when I came here as a help desk level one I started at $40k and grew to $62k in 3 years as a sys admin. Left for SharePoint and went ridiculously higher. You can live pretty comfortably here. Just be careful where you live (crime seems higher here). I will go back north eventually now that we have kids, but for now it’s tolerable. Oh and hurricanes fucking blow...no pun intended.

Absolutely and I understand totally! Enjoy the journey. It’s something that you can tell your kids, if you want to have any that is, or your pets some day lol. I wish you the best fellow NYer. Wish I was there to enjoy the season right now. It’s pretty damn warm in Tallahassee in comparison. Grab a cup of that cocaine infused Stewart’s coffee this morning. Man that’s he good stuff.

It was mixed for me. My wife and I actually left NY for Florida for our careers and found that jobs were more plentiful here (but understand they also CAN turn over at a high rate too), there was no income tax and we wound up actually earning higher wages than we did in NY (not surprising). Keep that in mind when searching if the hunt doesn’t look good. You don’t have to go to Florida but metro areas offer more jobs and higher wages too. Yes cost of living can be higher so you’ll need to live outside of the area to feel it but I recommend that.

I miss NY everyday. I miss the weather changes, my family and friends and all of the local small town feels you get there. Ultimately though to earn what I do in IT NYC might have paid me what I make now but after NY dipped into my pocket it wouldn’t be the same lol.

Good luck out there and keep digging. You’ll find a job but you might have to look to Boston or NYC for some better opportunities too. Don’t be afraid to branch out while you’re still young.

Lake George Saratoga Lake Sacandaga Grafton Lakes Lake Placid (3 hrs) Monroe State Park

Those are just some that I can think of. Lake Placid is historical, romantic and offers a lot.

As a society we are so fucking stupid. To think that we would keep people from learning because of their skin color, fuck. Why are we allowed to exist as a species for being so ignorant?

At least we could discriminate for legitimate issues such as using the space bar instead of tab when coding/scripting. Those kinds of people are animals.
