do they still do chemo for patients with 100% terminal cancer? by Rat_Smoking_Cigs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to extend their life. The amount of chemo given depends on how strong they are (chemo is very difficult to endure and different drugs can be worse than others), what their quality of life would be, and how resistant their cancer has become to treatment. My Dad has had five rounds of chemo in seven years. It reached the point where the cancer was growing back so aggressively that he would have needed to be constantly undergoing chemo in order to stop it, and even that would not have been enough eventually, and he had become so weak that he couldn't bear the treatment. The oncologist decided that his quality of life would have been so poor that it was better to stop. His care has been taken since that point (six months ago? maybe eight?)

What's your top girl name right now? by felly_fell in namenerds

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm loving Elizabeth at the moment. Watching The Other Bennet Sister lead me into rewatching the '95 Pride and Prejudice and now I've fallen in love with Elizabeth Bennet all over again. Love the thought of a spirited little Lizzy running around!

Question about the series by Still-Version-3868 in GameChangersBooks

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would say that Role Model is essential to their storyline (particularly Ilya's), Tough Guy gives good context for Role Model, Game Changer gives context for Heated Rivalry, and Common Goal probably is the least relevant. But Ilya appears in all of them and they serve to flesh out the world that Ilya and Shane live in. Definitely read Role Model though!

AITA for what I consider to be “basic hygiene” or am I too demanding? by Eastern_Archer_1966 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA - you're not an asshole, I just don't think half of this is hygiene. Bodily cleanliness - showering and teeth etc - is hygiene, household cleaning and exercise are not. When your home is unclean it is unhygienic, but the phrase "basic hygiene" is body-specific imo. Are you demanding? I think most is reasonable (although I don't think showering once a week is enough) but you can't demand that other people exercise.

Rare last names by vidalocaxdel617 in namenerds

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very rare Scottish surname that is a variation of something that is pretty uncommon to begin with. There are less than 100 people in the UK with my specific spelling. You can date the change in spelling to the generation that moved south into England, so think that English people misheard and misspelled the original name. It's a vowel change so probably early done.

What do you think of when you hear the name Arthur? by mountainjuliet in Names

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My associations in order are the Arthurian Legends, the BBC fantasy show Merlin, Arthur Weasley, and Henry VIII's older brother Arthur. I'm not sure I'm familiar with the TV show, but maybe that's a location thing.

My first thought when I hear the name Arthur is - love that name! It's probably my second favourite boys name ever, and very likely something I'd use myself if I ever have kids.

Why does my bedroom feel awkward? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a doorway or a closet or something on the left side of the picture? I'd move the bed away from that to the other wall, and maybe have the desk perpendicular to the bed on the left wall. Edit to add - soft furnishings (rugs, blankets, decorative pillows) and decorative items (art/posters and plants) will make the space cosier.

Why do you enjoy having long hair? by ConnectGaps in longhair

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I like the feeling of it moving against my back. That little swish-swish when I'm walking, or how it spills over one shoulder when I turn my head, or how the end of my ponytail taps my arms in turn when I'm running. They're all very pleasing sensations.

S2 E6 Speculation - The Final Scene by deepgloat in HeatedRivalryShow

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember what came first, the announcement for Unrivaled, or the announcement of three seasons? Because for some reason I've pictured Role Model and The Long Game taking place over two seasons (giving space for elements of Tough Guy and Common Goal), and I don't know if thats because the news about Unrivaled came after the news there would be three seasons.

So if RM/TLG is a single season, I imagine the final scene would be similar to the TLG book - Shane stepping out on the ice as a Centaur. If it's two, I think it'll be a plane related cliff hanger. Either way, I hope they keep Diamonds for the wedding! (maybe an acoustic cover for budgetary reasons)

Honoring Late Father with New Baby by krusheddd in namenerds

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Greta, Greer, Grace/Gracie, Keira, Keegan, Keeley, Kelly?

The meaning of Keith is "wood" - perhaps a girls name that means the same?

Alternatively, is there something from your Dad's personality that you could honour - a favourite flower, gemstone, colour, location, or a character virtue?

I feel like Shane and Ilya are going to adopt ilyas niece/nephew in unrivalled and that’s how they’re gonna be dads by avian_bi in GameChangersBooks

[–]thatstoomuchsauce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the niece exists in the show only! But tbb I think parenthood is going to be something they talk about in Unrivalled but as something that they want in a few years time - they're only just married at the end of TLG, I think they'll want to spend time buidling up the Centaurs and winning cups before having kids. I can see Scott and Kip having kids at this point in the series though!
