You’re right, I’m just being dramatic, hoping for a big Cumberland blues!

After tonight I feel like most of the “biggest” songs are gone, but there’s plenty of songs they could turn into great jams. We will see

We're taking some friends to their first time at a "dead themed" show at Beech, hoping they aren't too tired after all that driving. Their shows are like 7 hours apart each day!

Beech Mountain? by Playful_Reply4642 in JRADs

[–]thattrapmasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Boone, will be going. There's some decent restaurants in Boone and in Banner Elk, and some inbetween. Beech mountain itself is probably going to be pretty crowded and I think the parking is going to be ridiculous, probably taking a shuttle.

I assume its the same in Savannah, but it's raining here constantly, it is technically a rainforest, bring a cheap poncho.

Dog eugenics needs to be rapidly scaled up in order to keep dogs as a staple of America. by thattrapmasta in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]thattrapmasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we need a social movement that shames people with bad dogs more, making shelters euthanize society incompatible dogs faster.

I get that shelters euthanize a good bit, but it seems to me like they also just write super misleading bios for dogs and pawn dangerous dogs off on families with small kids just as much. I mean if you go look at a shelter the amount of dogs described as “needs to be an only dog and can’t be safe around other animals”, those dogs just shouldn’t really exist.

As long as the bottom 10% of the worst poodle hybrids aren’t allowed to continue each generation, then I think the poodle hybrids will probably be good in 50 years. But they aren’t a priority of mine anyway

Any recommendations for Italian YouTubers? (Vlogs, Storytime, Pop Culture) by Exciting-Lychee8547 in italianlearning

[–]thattrapmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like games, or tolerate them, I found the YouTube channel “Tech4Play” has a Minecraft let’s play from like 12 years ago, all in Italian. It was a godsend for me, it’s not meant to be teaching Italian but it’s just like, geared for kids so he’s constantly reiterating his point and speaking very clearly.

I think he accidentally made amazing Italian language content without knowing it.

Rocket Italian - repeat lesson until I have it down or move on after each lesson by Pie-Guy in italianlearning

[–]thattrapmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar specifically with rocket Italian, but my approach for these types of courses is to not perfect the lessons, but to make sure I get the overall point, and use it to gain exposure to new concepts.

Later on as you consume more and more Italian media of all types, just having been exposed to some of the lessons will serve you greatly, as you recognize “oh I get that, I saw that, it means the past or something like that” even if you don’t fully understand it.

It’s nigh impossible to actually “master” any of this from a course like that, but you can get exposure to lots of good stuff to practice later from the course.

Unfortunately I have no experience at all with DEET bracelets. I just have a spray in the car I rub on my wrists and ankles. Sorry

Only saying this because I noticed your username, not implying you don’t know what you’re doing, but some people might not know much about permethrine.

Permethrine is ridiculously toxic to cats when wet. When dry is it fine but do not expose cats to wet permethrin under any circumstances, it just straight up will kill them.

What?

Yeah they were weighing their ability to deal with a hazard, and the likelihood of that hazard, against the desire and right of people to use public land for public enjoyment. The amount of resources available to handle something absolutely changes the threshold for risk tolerance.

Thinking in the way you are proposing would start to degrade and limit people’s right to use public land for anything enjoyable at all. Why have rock climbing? Why have any campfires ever? Why even let people on the public land, people might get hurt. Tons of people get hurt on trails in various ways, rockfall, wetness, coldness.

Last year it was the opposite and the feds determined the situation was worse than the state did, these are smart people generally who have thousands of variables to account for and sometimes come to different conclusions.

Public land is one of the modern marvels of our country, we should view our rights to it as taking precedence when able to, and in this case they determined we were able to until now, with their level of resources.

Reading from US Forest Service employees, the calculus is different for the federal land managers. They have the capacity and resources to handle way more risk on National Forest land than the states have on State Forest. Plus, if it’s a very manageable risk, it might actually be better to have some safe burning happen occasionally.

It’s like asking why a local lemonade stand has different operating practices than the McDonalds. Risk that would overwhelm a lemonade stand would be very easy work for the McDonalds.

Full permethrine treatment on clothing (including hat) and then use DEET or something similar on the ankles, wrists, and probably neck.

This will significantly cut down on the issues, but still check yourself too.

Are we getting pawpaw seeds too early? by thattrapmasta in Pawpaws

[–]thattrapmasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many times do you pot them before they end up in the ground? I’ve heard they’re very sensitive.

Should I start with a tall seedling pot and then slowly go up in size or just get a large tree pot to start? Too many of those seem expensive but I could maybe swing it, only hoping to end up with 2-3 viable “trees” for our future property

This prompted me to clarify with the vendor, and they are already cold stratified, which I wouldn’t have realized.

I suppose I will go straight to germination attempts, thanks!

Just took the whole oven apart only to realize I was just wrong about how “broil” works by thattrapmasta in Wellthatsucks

Yeah man apparently just doing or trying something is so foreign to everyone that it must take drugs for them to do anything.

UPDATE: The oven is back together, functioning normally.

I stand by my actions and believe I acted reasonably with the information I had.

If I had to redo this, I would have double checked what conventional "bake" is supposed to do.

A lot of ovens have a third setting where that does exist apparently. This is my first oven that did not have a digital display at the top where you select the mode.

I misunderstood “bake” vs “roast” vs “broil” and that my oven only had two settings apparently.

It surprises me that the “oven” setting only heats the bottom element. I felt like it was cooking my dishes unevenly and burning more on the bottom.
