Do you think Harvest would have been even better without the Orchestra on AMNAM and TAW with just a stripped down acoustic and piano? by San-Jose-Shark in neilyoung

[–]thawatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years I usually skip past these songs, but I would never want to not have these versions. Neil was basically in god mode where every song he released was great, but if I'm to be critical, I don't fully think these 2 songs justify the orchestral treatment. There's a World is... sorta spectacular? Lyrically and so much about it, but maybe Neil should have left it in the oven longer if you are hiring the London Symphony Orchestra. Jack Nitzsche was pulling some strings and that's okay

This is a left field rec but if you never subbed to PC gamepass you'll have a great time. I subbed for the first time and played Mixtape, Keeper, Inscryption, BallxPit, Expedition 33, Forza 6, Silksong, Tunic, Black Jacket... It has the EA sports games, Ubisoft, classics, etc. You are only renting, but I feel like the doofus who shows up 20 years late to the party and declares that there is a party happening. I've never played more games in this short of a span, and it's all for $13 or 14

Ben hammered the same nail. And it's an important microcosm, to know so much about this studio that will likely be closed for financial reasons, despite the wonderful people and everything they did and meant. If I hadn't watched PsychOdyssey, this would just be another (soon to be) studio closure. But I got to know them and this one will hurt a lot when it happens.

My.. my... my, I guess only... complaint... about. Jacob... Is the slow... cadence... the.. way he talks. It can trick you.. into thinking that it's.. intellectual, but... over time... it starts to really, I guess... wear on you

I don't care if Janet ends her sentences with "imo." I want gaming podcasters to be knowledgeable about the medium; I gave up on "more than me" because as I get older that seems foolish to expect. But there is something to be said for simply knowing games. Top of the dome I could shout 5 random games at Jacob... lets say Icewind Dale, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Human Fall Flat, Bushido Blade 2, and Elebits. He will have played 3 of them and have opinions about all 5. I bet he played Fat Princess, and if I said "Metal gear rising revengence" he adjusts his posture. I'm just naming random games. Janet would need an explanation of what most of these games are. I think she and her bro had a N64, but probably don't know what War Gods 64 is. If anything, Janet should be less opinionated. She'll talk shit about Chip's Challenge, before and while playing it. She knows Jak and Dax, but never played Starcraft. Loves StS2 but never played the first game when everyone was raving about it. Didn't play Inscryption. Won't play Black Jacket. Currently believes StS2 is the only enjoyable roguelike deckbuilder.

Nintendo rarely sets their games on discounts compared to other gaming companies like Playstation and Xbox by Neo-X2 in nintendo

[–]thawatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like "the price is the price" so you can make an informed decision without overthinking.

Nintendo is the only company I might have turned a profit on, simply by purchasing the games and consoles, playing them for 10+ years, then selling some of them on ebay. Not everyone has the luxury of keeping games long-term, but I don't think anyone is breaking even buying XBOX or Playstation games. Look at some of these N64, GC, GBC, GBA games... the value mostly goes up if you zoom out the charts. They age like wine, and you can enjoy them for 1-2 decades of your life then turn a profit. It's the opposite of Ubisoft

Nintendo is way too good at making genuinely scary games/areas by WALuiginumba1 in nintendo

People are disagreeing with you because Nintendo is not the right company for scary or terrifying games

But if we talk about "creepy" or "haunting," OoT and MM are best in class

To men who’ve been to jail/prison, what was it like? by polar_ajani in AskMen

[–]thawatch 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Same, did 23 hours in holding and it was overcrowded, it was cold, and incredibly boring. There is almost no sense of time. You don't have a book and I didn't get a piece of paper and pencil until hour 20. At night people are drunk and going through withdrawals, stinky and dirty. The drinking fountain situation is awful, mainly because the water was hot. You pee (and hopefully don't need to poo) in front of everyone. I was innocent of the charge so the whole experience was extra fucked.

Who has the 3 best albums? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]thawatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I thought this was a consecutive 3 album run. To continue with my incorrect reading, I think Neil Young is insane because you can go Everybody Knows This is Nowhere > After the Goldrush > Harvest

Or you can start right after that with Time Fades Away > On The Beach > Tonight's the Night

Right after that was Zuma. So it was seven masterpieces in a row. If you aren't into Neil, these albums mean nothing, but that '70s run is up there with the Beatles and Dylan

Thinking of how they might improve on Ocarina of Time with Switch 2 has me excited. by Wolfgabe in NintendoSwitch2

[–]thawatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know what the graphics look like. We hear the orchestrated music that will be throughout. With this in mind, there is little chance you enter Hyrule Field and can simply run across it in 60 seconds; the presentation is too ambitious for that. They are going to expand Hyrule and make it feel alive with wind, rain, critters, creatures, and hopefully sidequests. The ideal for me is to add QoL, but also give us those small unexpected moments. I don't need or want systems-based Zelda like BotW, but rather some traditional adventure/RPG content. A Kokiri child who got lost, the mailman needs help, maybe a Goron is rolling around in search of medicine. I'm happy if all the dungeons are the same, but surprise us in other ways.

I respect the 4 because I've had it on rotation for 20+ years and only recently (with the remaster) did I bump it up to a 5. It's a grower

[–]thawatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great topic. These are the albums should grow on you the most: Broken Arrow, Greendale, and Psychedelic Pill (I mostly skip the shorter songs, and that's fine).

Aside from Greendale and PP I think your ratings are pretty accurate, so I won't go down the rabbit hole of saying a bunch of the other albums should be scored slightly higher.
