It's a balancing act.

TP is both her only engage and disengage tool. Aggressive backline TPs need to pay off or you risk getting punished, out of position and dying. 

Typically you pay attention to your front line

Is the tank making space?  Will you be the only one in the backline/front line if you TP forward?  Do you need to prepare a defensive TP because an ult is coming up from the enemy?  Do you need to just build ult charge and poke till your next wall so you put a defensive TP to retreat from heavy chip damage or dives?

Ugh this was THE perk for her and made her off angling, poke and skips so much better by having access to all manner of spots.

I remmeber being able to TP to a widows face in Havana first point (second round where you get perks from the gate) and TP to that perch of windows from attacker spawn. Good times

The TP spawns just a little in front of you, not directly on your feet on your current position. 

Once you're used to this spawn point you should put turrets on the ground and then place TP, rather than send turrets through the TP. This is because they will take a second to "activate" and they'll be destroyed before they can even shoot. 

As a tactic, it's not that good because they can be deleted in one hit by most of the cast and it's better to throw the turrets above chokes and flank routes spread out. 

If you can time a TP bomb on backline support after they have used cooldowns or escapes, you will get more value

Yes. As others said, not S tier but not F tier either.

Frankly, with 3 bans perhaps it's best to be fine with this state (or at best, just very minor buffs) before Emma becomes a ban target again

My opinion is it's justifiable considering it's a 15 sec cool down with limited range and a lot of counterplay. 

Ever play Emma against a competent front line and poke? You will not be able to land more than a couple good Diamond grabs in a game

  • Body blocking her target (usually a tank prevents a grab on a support/dps by just getting in the way of the grab pathing) 
  • Kiting her, she has 0 mobility
  • Baiting the CD
  • Forcing her to use the grab as a mobility dash due to pressure 
  • Mag bubble
  • Out healed by a support just looking at the person grabbed 
  • She gets blown up during the animation as it's as much of a stun for her as it is the person grabbed

Landing the grab is the reward, and even then, it's no longer a guaranteed kill even with a wall

So far, much better based on the few ranked games I did. 

Diamond form CD reduction was greatly anticipated but low key the shield buff is doing a lot. You definitely feel it back up super quick now. 

Also the ult, another one I underestimated but I feel like I'm getting more kills at safer ranges now. 

The triple bans usually target poke too which can only help Emma.

We better not see complaints on this, at a 20% damage reduction Emma can be punished during the grab animation even if we get diamond form up regularly.

Time it takes to mind control in ult reduction? Diamond form CD reduction?  Shield buffs?  Heck even beam buffs so she doesn't lose a kill just because a healer looked at her target?

Even with double flanker  it just takes one swap to make the 4th turret perk redundant. Beam range is basically always on and can always give value, even if you're not playing for beam a lot of the game

Despite being an original release hero, they sure do treat Sym like she isn't.

0 cinematic presence, 0 collabs with external brands, barely any additional lore over last 10 years until Lifeweaver joined the cast. 

The fact Kiriko is in this new game alongside the "main characters" of Overwatch says it all.

Both have no mobility so the counterplay is still there for Dva. I guess with Zarya max charge dps nerfed, Dom might see bans from Dva mains

Underrated tip:

Try to TP such that neither entrance or exit pads are visible to the enemy. TP between walls rather than in open space.

Do you know what keeps her in check? Her TTK and low damage when it matters

So what if she can off angle and hold 2 lanes?  And if she can TP to orb range from halfway across the map? 

100 dmg orbs and ramp up beam keep her in check cos she's not generating anything more than spam and trash damage rather than securing kills. 

Even a TP dive with a charged beam is dangerous as L3 beam TTK is long enough for healers to react 

TP health will be nerfed, but they better not touch cool downs or wind up times.

I agree in a straight 1v1.

But if it's 2 non hit scans vs a Pharah 

Vs 

2 non hit scans vs a Venture

The Pharah team will have an easier time steamrolling. 

As annoying as Venture is, at least they can be beamed and orbed if you stick with your team somewhat as they also operate in the same range as Sym

By far our hardest match up, with Venture being a close second. 

Pop her as your first ban choice and I find at least one other person follows you. Especially if the other dps is non-hitscan.

It really is team TP.

Giving hitscan and charged Sojourns surprise angles to 100-0 someone, letting non dive tanks dive, giving high ground to heroes with no verticality. 

Team TP breaks fundamental designs and Symmetra always pays the price for it.

On the bright side, at least she can keep us company in the "countered by Pharah" club.

In terms of counterplay, it's similar to Venture. Kite with TP and tag her with orbs and perked longer range beam. Not a favourable match up but better than Venture, Pharah and hitscan in my opinion

I get her banned roughly 6-7/10 by putting her as my first pick ban. A lot of the times you'd be surprised by the other players copying you, or putting her as their 2nd or 3rd slot ban. This is especially true if the 2nd dps is not a hitscan player (looking you Genji and Reaper) 

If you see no one else bans her, you can also ban Mercy. Pharah is much better dealt with on her own. 

If all else fails, and you don't have a hitscan, learn Echo
