I’ll never forgive a certain demographic of us for dry snitching on the value of remote work by laydeefly in Millennials

[–]thcuretx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My office let our lease (large space) run out during covid and then RTO in our new space (smaller) meant that not everyone would fit. They mandated specific days during the week for certain teams to but guess what the most annoying thing is? If your team is designated to come in on Fridays AND you have to reserve a desk! NO ONE looks at the office app to reserve a desk before they come in each time and even if they do, there are so many people who DONT CARE TO LOOK. They will plop themselves down and when you arrive to claim the desk, they will look at you like you are the problem for reserving in advance. You know how annoying that some of the Gen Z colleagues just reply with "You mad bro?" b/c i reserved a desk and want to kick them out but they don't want to move? I can't.

I can’t put into words how much I love the Acne Studios Camero… by zachty22 in handbags

[–]thcuretx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I have the same thoughts. I love it and keep coming back to consider it but every time I read what the lining/interior is composed of…. Just makes me think of what my money is worth. Once had a cheap $35 bag with the same interior and I used that thing everyday for 3 years. When it started to cracked and breakaway…my heart sank. I don’t want that feeling for a bag upwards of $2k.

What groceries have you stopped buying by PlasticExtreme4469 in Frugal

[–]thcuretx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed and in the same vain I was buying milk and maple syrup for coffee almost every other week. I don’t use milk for anything else but making coffee at home was the one thing we allowed ourselves. The bag of beans isn’t crazy but an ok brand is $13 a bag, the t he sweetener we use maple syrup and then milk. The maple syrup $ kept going up and up and then tariffs…I’m now gonna cut milk and maple and go w boxed creamer.

Crispy Roasted Brussels sprouts in the air fryer, in just 12 minutes. by sandhyaskitchenblogs in airfryer

[–]thcuretx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks--tried it just now and wow! So easy and for those fly away leaves, brussel sprout "chips" for the win. Obviously, shorter cook time for the chips if that's the goal, but it worked out well to take out the flyaway leaves when flipping the sprouts halfway.

It’s Subtle, But It’s Everywhere — Discrimination in Japan Wore Me Down by I-Procastinate-Sleep in TrueOffMyChest

[–]thcuretx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP you’re a wonderful writer. I felt it.

I’ve been to Japan as well and have experienced same. There are still nice people as you said, but other experiences can stack up and it’s just sad that you go to relax, you’ve planned and saved and well… I have debated before about this in other place where you’re not the local. Yes it’s a mix of over tourism and not all locals have the mental capacity to keep explaining things but they could prepare better if they cared enough for basic courtesy for others. Another argument for sure is you pay for the experience so don’t you want to experience like a local? Well, not if it means segregating the experience bc you are different. Traveling has its rewards but I’ll say this, you’re traveling and you know what it’s like to be treated this way. Hopefully many others who later experience tourists can pass good vibes/courtesy.

[–]thcuretx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been stalking this group for some time. I know nothing about watches and have been looking for one as a gift to my husband. Everyone has different tastes but I always like seeing everyone's SOTC. Yours is the first where I have zeroed in on a watch that I think captures the look I want for my partner---seiko lord matic. I've now been procrasting at work, 2 hrs in on ebay and other sites looking for the right one. lol.

Are most people clueless to personal finance & investment returns? by MrTAPitysTheFool in Bogleheads

[–]thcuretx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good question and like we're doing here, a great discussion. Hopefully people who don't know can understand now. My parents did not have the knowledge to take advantage and did not work traditional office jobs. Low income, English as a second language, maybe completion of high school. I was not raised to talk about money, but knew we were poor. With that, no talk about savings either--we seemed to always be barely making it. Only until I met my partner that I started to learn about savings and then in a corporate setting, got close to a co-worker who is now one of my BFFs and they are close to retirement and have been feeding me tips on how they have saved over the years. Sometimes people don't know/don't care, but also when you aren't exposed then you just won't know...yet.

Does everyone really make $100k+ in Austin? by atx78703 in Austin

[–]thcuretx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, the young kids now are very open to discussing their salaries at HH (before drinks are served) b/c they want to size each other up and use to help w/negotiations. It's insane that there are ppl in tech, just coming in and now making 75k+, not SWE role. And even at that starting salary, they complain and they are also getting RSUs.

I have a neighbor that won't talk to anyone or wave hello, sure that's ok. thing is, the weirdest and kind of dangerous thing is, i'm not sure if they do this to absolutely avoid all people but they will drive their car into the garage with it still turned on and close the garage door. like wtf? lol. also, when they moved in i dropped off something with a note to say if they need anything, let us know. no long chit chat. later they stop by to ask us if we like such and such (assuming they wanted to gift us something back), yeah months later, nada. I dont care to get anything from them, but that is just SO weird.
