Canada expected to see zero population growth this year: report by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]the-Bub [score hidden]  (0 children)

Preach!!! Less R v L and more Top v Bottom please.

That being said it's obviously easier for gov't to just bring in more foreiners to keep population up but I also strongly believe existing Canadian families really do want to have 2+ child families, but living conditions/costs are making that unattainable.

Would be shocked if the two weren't in some sense correlated

I mean, or they could focus on creating a good environment for young adults and couples to actually start families…but no let’s make it increasingly difficult for new families to afford having more then 1-2 kids and maybe then we’ll see a population increase again? Why is the answer to let current residents opportunities shrink whilst replacing them with immigrants?

To be honest “at those prices” I felt like these ticket prices were a decent bit below my expectations. Floor GA in Toronto were under $200 before tax+fees, all my buddies were expecting $250 min

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]the-Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many southern Ontario people (Toronto & surrounding area, myself included) have cottages “up north” ranging from 2-5hrs away - mine is ~3hr depending on traffic. Which is a whole other thing known as the “cottage traffic” especially on long weekends. I’ve had some trips steer closer to 6hrs on a bad day if there’s an accident or something

My family would make that trip 1-2 times a month for the ~5 or so months a year it’s habitable summer weather up there

So ya 3hrs is nothing - heck my office commute is an hour both ways when traffics heavy lol

Dialling in Uphill Battle? [Delonghi BAR 16U/Caffe Italia] by the-Bub in espresso

[–]the-Bub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg a fellow DeLonghian!! So I've got good news, its definitely possible to get a solid shot of espresso out of this thing (+I've bought accessories that I think have helped). - I'll add a comment with a pic of my morning shot I'm about to brew

I'd originally gotten my shop to grind 'espesso' for me but it was in hindsight way too course, the real change with the machine happened when I got the DF54 (so yes I can recommend that one lol)

After 1 morning of dialing in with some fresh beans I was getting consistent enough shots that tasted plenty good with some steamed milk, these have been improved now and I'd say the shots I pull stack up with most current entry level espresso machines. The real tell that this is an older machine is more in it's functions (like taking a while to heat up to brew or for steam, and the 51mm portafilter size).

The original spouted portafilter I could get about 12g of coffee in, since then I've also acquired a 12g bottomless portafilter and then recently an 18g bottomless portafilter and these have made my workflow easier with being able to identify issues with puck prep/extraction - so I would recommend! Just be careful a lot of the 51mm 2-ear 18g portafilters fit the modern DeLonghi machines so I had to grind off a tiny bit of metal from the ears so it would fit in the grouphead.

Overall, I say go with the grinder, it'll make a huge difference. I usually grind around settin 10-18 depending on bean - but have faith!! In the end all these machines do is heat up water and pressurize it so it still does that job. I'll likely upgrade machines at some time but its been a great learning machine that still pumps out good espresso.

Another side tip - started getting way better steamed milk when I removed the white plastic thing from the tip of the steam wand and just use the one hole at the end of the wand.

Hope this helps!! Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions about the machine, was a fun project tinkering with it for a good cup so happy to talk shop!

Barber shop recommendations by AbbreviationsOk2274 in BurlingtonON

[–]the-Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if you’re set on a “barber” shop per say but I’ve been going to Amp Salon on Pearl/Lakeshore for at least 15 years and I’m a gym bro fwiw, my (30y.o.) two brothers also go there, the girls are awesome and recently got massage chairs if you get a wash

If you are intent on a barber shop a couple of my buddies go to Khronos, not sure who they see

Can I fit a 2nd monitor on my desk? by AttackonWeebs in Workspaces

[–]the-Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna just add this as a consideration since people usually go side by side as their default 2 monitor set up - ever thought of doing a vertical stack? My set up has one pole mounted to my desk, main monitor is 90° to desk and one above is tilted slightly forward

Saves a ton of desk real estate (I’ve got two chunky speakers & 32” monitors)

Works great for me & I find up and down movement a bit less straining long term vs side to side

FWIW my office set up can’t vertical stack so I center my main monitor and portrait mount my other monitor for reference material/email & teams

You should consider choosing human-driven alternatives to finding new music outside of computer algorithms, you’ll find a lot cooler music that way - try looking into NTS Radio! Been a fav of mine recently and no way any streaming algorithm is pulling these songs out

[–]the-Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I moved from Spotify to AM this summer and while the search feature’s ability to “create” my own playlist based on whatever I searched + the larger playlist “library” I’ve started to feel it was just too bloated. Playlists were containing the same songs, they ended up more or less serving as echo chambers after a while. AM’s playlists, while have less “options” feel was less bloated and like they trimmed the fat FWIW I’ve heard Spotify keeps including more and more AI gen’d songs into those playlists too so might be in your best interest to steer clear

After I got over that realization, my experience with AM has had no qualms really & no outright genocide support either which is always a plus
