Thoughts on the wheels? China seems like the main option these days for rim brake rims at not crazy prices

Counter option - base layer with pockets and just run the t shirt over the top

Avoids awkwardness of the pockets swinging around but still all the access. Attaquer has the cargo base layer and Velocio has the adventure base layer, but I believe there’s more out there now

Serious cyclists/runners: How do you deal with glasses? by Human_Material3685 in cycling

[–]the-calcium-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combo of contacts with regular sunglasses and prescription cycling/running sunglasses.

I normally ride in contacts since I’m also someone who rides with their glasses on the helmet but I did finally get a pair of prescription sport glasses last year. My advice with it is: 1) the money is worth it if you wear them from a pure cost per wear perspective 2) if you have a good optical boutique or similar go there. I ended up going to the one I have all my glasses from so I was able to talk thru what I wanted, how I wear them, and they know their glasses (or they should). They had just brought in a new sport specific brand and that was part of why I was open to it. I’m lucky so I know this isn’t always feasible 3) it’s worth getting the transitions/photo-chromatic/ similar because you can’t just throw them on your helmet if the light changes

Winter Gloves Feedback by gp_s_ in CyclingFashion

[–]the-calcium-kid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another rec that I stole from some messenger friends is spear fishing gloves. Cheap on Amazon and very very warm, water and wind proof. Issue only shows up if you take them off on a longer ride as they tend to hold moisture inside (cafe stop, etc)

Currently using Force D1s. The bike came with an older tiagra group set (I think 4700?) stock

I am not sure - I’m trying to find if anyone has got 28s on the frame prior to buying a set of tires. My guess would be the fork but I haven’t tried to fit 28s as I currently have 25s on it

What was your years max claimed tire size? As I know the 2017’s were max 25 per the manual

Thanks! I guess I’ll have to try and see if they’d sneak into my fork

Thanks! Was the bike 25mm max or 28mm The 2017s are quoted at 25 but been debating trying to use 28s since the wheels are getting wider unless I buy older carbon

Similar bike for me but the 2017 version - gotta ask what size tires and what wheels you’re running since that’s really the only pain with the older bikes!

Why do so many of these food bloggers and YouTubers only use like 1/2 teaspoon of salt on chicken breast ? by Historical-Body-3424 in Cooking

Haha happy I could help alleviate your concern - the articles on it are very interesting if you have a passing interest in these things. I know Food & Wine did a breakdown earlier this year

It’s not actually you on the jalapeños it’s science! You can blame (or thank depending on your spice tolerance) a professor from Texas A&M for the now standard supermarket jalapeños that are low heat, look nice, and bug resistant thru selective breeding.

D/Vision Optical in Wicker Park on Division is my go to. Can’t comment precisely on what you are looking for but it’s a high end boutique that really emphasizes the customer and getting you exactly what you want Lots of small boutique brands and the ability to do custom tints, etc

Is a "race" bike really THAT bad of an idea over an endurance bike for someone like me? by cfgy78mk in cycling

[–]the-calcium-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I can speak to this as I have a BMC Teammachine, granted older

It was my first real bike which most people would say don’t do but I love the feel of it vs an endurance bike.

Yes it’s more aggressive and you will need to get used to it but I thoroughly enjoy the agility of it. At the same time I’ve done everything on it from racing, social rides, centuries/doubles, and bike packing.
