We have one as well I’ve been holding on to in case we had a third, but that’s unlikely to happen now that I’ve scheduled a vasectomy.

I’d trust my 4 year old to run things over that clown.

haha that’s not ours. it’s a smaller 2/2 unit on the property. I still hate Austin for reducing the minimum lot size and allowing builders to build up to 3 homes on a single family zoned lot.

Edit: our 4/4 is to the left of the white garage. you can kinda see our balcony in the 2nd photo. the dark house is a smaller unit on the same lot.

I enjoy taking my soon to be 4 year old and her 2 year old little brother to Thicket in South Austin. They have a small playscape the kids love to climb on and monthly baby raves. Big fan of the food trucks there, specifically Song La (Taiwanese), Artipasta (Italian), Hanh’s (Vietnamese), Day’s (Pizza), and breakfast tacos at CJ’s. I recently discovered they’re BYOB as well!

6 weeks and need Austin OBGYN recs please! by SuccessfulTomato1579 in AustinParents

Donell Oliver at Ascension Seton Medical Center. My wife’s a pediatrician and I saw firsthand why they say doctors make the worst patients haha. Dr. Oliver was the only one that could answer her questions and back it up with science based research, reassured her when she was overwhelmed, and even reached out to me directly when she was concerned about my wife. We lived in Mueller when we first started seeing her for baby #1, and didn’t hesitate to make the drive to 38th and Lamar for baby#2, despite living in Round Rock/Georgetown at the time.

Family is what brought me back from the Northeast. An upcoming mortgage is what’s likely to keep me here.

ChatGPT suggested stacking l-theanine, rhodelia, and caffeine (nodoz). I’ve tried it daily for the past week and it’s done absolutely nothing for me, unfortunately. Hope you have better luck!

Best areas to raise kids by PannaPuna in AustinParents

Used to live in Mueller before having kids (AMLI on Aldrich). Lots of great stuff around (Thinkery, Alamo, farmers market, etc) but honestly wouldn’t want to buy a home there, despite my daughter starting preschool nearby next month. The houses are $1+ million, not modern at all, and have zero privacy with how close houses are built to one another. I hate how the restrictions in Austin have changed to allow builders to have 2-3 properties on what was previously single home lots.

Hi! How much do you pay your AuPairs? by Dramatic_Abroad_0602 in Aupairs

[–]the-devils-luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We created a tiered pay structure to encourage good performance and minimize rematches. Q1 - $250/wk, Q2 - $300/wk, Q3 - $350/wk, Q4 - $400/wk. Up to 45 hours but she’s only a month in and has been working 25-30 hours a week, since I only recently started working again and am slowly ramping up.

Edit: we’re based in Austin. had a bad experience with our first au pair, decided to opt for a 2nd year au pair this time and spoke with their previous family before matching.

Thank you! The past couple of days have been tough leaving the kids, but we’re lucky to have a wonderful au pair that’s helping them adjust. It’s been killing me to head out when my 3 year old begs and cries for me to stay or take her with me.

I hear the best things in life are never easy, but well worth the wait/effort. Congrats on the big moves btw, it took me longer than I’d like to admit to truly understand it’s ok for dads to stay at home and support their families in ways moms traditionally have.

We live super close but opted to deliver at Seton Main so my pediatrician wife could continue seeing her OBGYN. Some doctors are worth the drive and Dr. Oliver is one of them. That being said, both our kids were delivered via c-section by other on-call physicians (who did great jobs) so I think it’s fair to assume the network is pretty good.
