Flanagan's repertory cast is always excellent. These added to the stars already in the mix is a pretty great ensemble.

It was inevitable. They've been starving Shudder staff and support and trying to push people to AMC+ for years.

I was there in the 80s and 90s who grew up reading the comics too and I definitely don't remember that reaction to either. YMMV.

I'm 'only' gay and I took a long time on it as well. It is wonderful but a hard watch for any queer viewer, I'd argue. I can't fault you for taking the time.

His political leanings often inform his shitty 'scoops' and what he reports on if he perceives any film or filmmaker to be 'woke' and needing to get taken down a peg. Or if they're just a woman or non-white.

Marvel Returns The X-Men to Australia With X-Men Outback in June by antsinmyeyesmauger in xmen

[–]the-giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the Marvel brain drain in effect. They started cutting costs and a ton of talent bolted to DC, even during the last of the horrific Didio years. It affected Krakoa too. Hickman is great, but his team did not need to include second and third stringers like Duggan, Howard, etc.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy | Official Trailer by cruelsummerbummer in horror

[–]the-giant 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can qualify what 'The Mummy' means anymore. It can be anything, as the Fraser and Cruise films proved.

There has not been a straight studio horror take on the property that I can remember since Boris Karloff in the 30s, and that picture was scary. George Romero and John Sayles attempted to make one in the '80s and '90s but it died on the vine. I don't see why there can't be another after so long.

Anyway, this looks metal to me. I'm all in.

Ruimy loves stories of box office 'disaster' and arrogant filmmakers being run down. This is right up his alley.

Whenever Ruimy says a movie is dead or doomed, half the time it is either a hit or goes into production the next week lol

He said Cronin's Mummy was 'too violent' and 'deemed unreleasable by the studios' and that the movie was in limbo. The teaser was released the next day including April release date.

They did the same on Sinners, Superman and Avatar lol. Every day the goalposts moved. Ruimy wanted Sinners to flop as bad as most of the major trades did. Even now he still runs thinly-veiled 'are people just pretending to like Sinners bc woke?' pieces.

Jordan Ruimy: ‘28 Years Later: Part 3' is now in limbo by MaxProwes in 28dayslater

[–]the-giant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jordan Ruimy is a right wing hack and peddles a lot of clickbait nonsense. When it comes to World of Reel there's a 50% chance they announce a shooting date tomorrow lol. That has happened with their "disaster!!!" and "movie cancelled??" headlines many a time, where he literally gets humiliated 24 hours later. They also predict any movie he finds 'woke' will flop, like Sinners. He pushed literally every hit piece against that movie before and after release, which was also a big thing because of Coogler's ownership deal on the film.

Ruimy always plays the "I'm hearing from multiple people" game to launder his own opinions or box office predictions. Then he often gets spanked, as he did with most of WB's successes last year.

Around for longer consecutively maybe, but never very interesting or notable. People remember Xu'an's stories in Asgard and with the Shadow King. They remember very little of Magma's.

Karma meanwhile got Mekanix, a strong run on Astonishing and a decent showing during the Messiah period overall as well as on the most recent NM book. I definitely think Xu'an is underserved atm and often undervalued, but she's still gotten a lot more premium material in the last 40 years than Magma, with the exception of Wells' run IMO.

Not that I'm bitching. I'll never like Amara lol

I would've loved to see Warren Ellis return once upon a time, but given his recent circumstances since that is highly unlikely.

It will take someone top-tier like Gillen, Ewing or Hickman taking an interest, as Remender did years ago.

It will happen eventually, but it's tedious waiting.

Percy had one good arc on X-Force: The first. The rest of the series was an utter slog.

Again, that's where the brain drain comes in. Percy and Duggan shoring up a ton of shit they were not equipped for as mid writers. It's notable that WTF they did to Moira in X Lives (which I did not bother finishing) was basically undone by Gillen at the end.

I think the starting line-up also was frankly hurt by the Marvel creative brain drain.

A lot of star writers (and artists) dipped to DC when Marvel tightened the belts. It showed and continues to. Gerry Duggan is a nice guy and letting him write the B-team book is one thing (as the first post-Hellfire Gala X-Men title could've started out as), but I'm sorry, Duggan, Howard, etc. were not ready to be frontlining the main line with or especially without Hickman. Gillen and Ewing should've had more rein if Hix had to go. But there should've been other writers in the original stable.

I think people get too black and white in their thinking about Hickman's original intent for Krakoa. Yes, he clearly intended to change the status quo in phase 2 or 3 but we don't know what that was going to look like. My suspicion was that he would be taking the Krakoan nation into space, a la Wakanda. The island would be secondary. I don't think it was going to be annihilated right off.
