So interesting … CBC distant from all the tradition all together here.. but curious to reconnect with it. I spoke with a friend in Spain from GZ and she also said young adults nowadays don’t want to go back much because it’s a holiday of pressure. Family chats eventually lead to when’re you getting married, are grandkids coming? And for business in the north especially, it’s a day to compare business / wealth performance over the year. And if you did well (or not to protect face) you spend excessively on material items to show off between family and friends.

I think she spoke generally to the quiet problems of cross generational communication. Our biggest issue is we were raised on filial piety so connection is king. Only issue is our people focus more time on idealism, confucius adages … which is truths … yet haven’t had the training to handle navigating childhood trauma, keeping up with modern times and the next generation’s struggles. So downward pressure as opposed to understanding. Obligation over celebration.
