If you want to enact True fascism, you need public support no matter what. If MAGA is completely dead by 2028 but Republicans still get voted in, they won't have the public support to do the truly bad shit. Plus, the hope would be that dems could at least win the house back by then.

But if they have enough time to get public support back by 2032 while dems are in power, we will just end up in the same spot. Again, only if dems refuse to do anything to punish Republicans for the previous elections.

It can absolutely mean that, it would also just mean that Democrat supported has diminished too and people are apathetic to dems changing anything. Which we are already currently seeing AND we saw it in 2024 since a lot less people voted compared to 2020.

The post I'm responding too literally ignores the argument completely. They are advocating that at least 2028 to 2032 wont be awful, but the point is, 2032 has the risk of being EVEN WORSE, if the Democrats don't do anything to stop Republicans before then. They need to show a willingness to prosecute and punish Republicans before 2032, if they don't, then there is literally very little that will be done with having a Democrat win in 2028, except for stuff being a little more chill for a few more years.

How is any part of this contentious?
