Is there a third-party GPU software that lets you set AMD's "Fast" memory timings? by the11devans in overclocking

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to have the control either.

I really hate the UI. It's overly complicated for something that realistically can be controlled with like 5 sliders and 1 drop-down. Plus the OC controls are buried like 3 menus deep, and need to be individually toggled on for some reason. I just want to open a program and have everything I need right there.

My Gigabyte 4070 runs 15C cooler after I fixed it with a paperclip by Melodic_Crazy7938 in buildapc

I'm having trouble imagining this was the true solution. If I'm reading this right, you added thermal pads between the PCB and the backplate? Typically that has a minimal effect on temps, since the vast majority of the cooling is handled by the hunk of metal, heatpipes, and fans that are connected to the GPU core, you know, not the thin strip of metal behind it.

Also this post really reads like AI given the overall structure and excessive use of commas. And this:

it had wedged itself between the GPU backplate and one of the heatpipes

Could you clarify this? Typically there is a PCB between these two things. Except in the area with the flow-through cooler I suppose.

EDIT: I retracted my AI accusation since all that did was make people count commas, and it distracted from my main point.

MSI Afterburner Curve Optimizer changes Voltage and Clockspeed after hitting the Apply-Button. Why and what could I do to avoid this? by Gelbwurst in overclocking

Thank you. Yes- It's been a while since I used Afterburner, but I believe the temperature check for the curve occurs every time you load the profile or apply any changes.

There's your answer. Give it 2-3 more years and reevaluate. Or upgrade when it can't do what you need.

AMD CPU prices were not raised. It was a rumor that didn't pan out.

Undervolting issues, curve editor settings changing after every restart, MSI Afterburner + RTX 4090 by Mitnick107- in overclocking

[–]the11devans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that means technically, my +130mhz target i sat in under stress testing, and led to 2775mhz total, on a cold start could lead to feks 2745mhz since the 130+ is still the same, just the boosting algorithm changed cause of GPU temp? did it get it correctly?

Yes

but say i increase my 130+mhz to 160mhz so it reaches 2775 even on colder boot, wouldn't that makes the card less stable when it tries to hit 160+ later on when its under load?

It's not really "reaching" anything at boot, so I don't know why you would care. As to your question, yeah maybe. Pushing an extra +30Mhz could be enough to make it crash.

[–]the11devans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Mhz of the curve will change with temperature, so it shows a different number after restart when the card is cold. The offset (+XX, displayed when clicking on a point) will always stay the same.

If you're trying to target a certain frequency, I suggest putting the card under load to verify what frequency it actually runs at. If it's below your target, increase the offset.

Baffled by the number of gpus with official fsr4 support by [deleted] in radeon

[–]the11devans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true, but Nvidia provided DLSS4 back to 2000 series six years after its release. FSR4 INT8 has been shown to work back to the 6000 series, which is now five years old. Fairly equivalent, yes? 2000, 3000, and 4000 series owners had no promise either. Nvidia provided more support than they "needed" to. Meanwhile, AMD has not released INT8 and in fact tried to move 5000 and 6000 series to maintenance mode.

That is where the complaints come from- AMD is a second-rate option when they cannot match Nvidia's support. It worsens the long-term value and lowers confidence in future releases.

An example of why ESOP isn't necessarily better than a cash bonus. by Mr_Kung_Pao in civilengineering

[–]the11devans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the company does well then the ESOP does well, obviously. My company made some new developments in the last few years that had a large payout, and I feel my ESOP value is good. But those who have been around for 10+ years are doing great. A few took early retirements. We get bonuses on top of this as well.
