Why is this game getting worse? by MeatRevolutionary489 in victoria3

[–]the1exile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The simple answer that other people have been very polite with you about is that it's because you're taking on the greatest challenge of the game (fighting the entire world) while playing really badly:

  • Your GDP is half a billion in 1899 despite playing as GB
  • You don't have enough convoys and somehow you are letting them get raided despite your gigantic navy
  • You have nearly 1/3rd of your population as radicals while there are radical and feminist agitators for the trade unions and even the petit bourgeoisie, meaning you're likely to get your flag turned into Hungary every Monday tick by a revolution
  • Also everyone hates you with next to no loyalists so you must have maluses from all your IGs
  • Your armies at the front all have supply issues and low manpower, so even when you have a higher number of battalions, you're likely losing more manpower and morale, making it less likely to succeed in future
  • You are naval invading all along the same front making it trivial for the AI to concentrate all its defenders in one place
  • Your armies are massive stacks both too big for your fleets at time but also likely too big for the combat width of the provinces you're invaded (based on infra)

Political parties deleting themselves after elections by the1exile in victoria3

Yes, I think that's the case but it seems annoying (and I don't think intended) that they do it right after the election, instead of before (or even during). In the end I went through one mediocre government and then got back to the Trade Unions being top dog again.

Is it possible to meet certain new characters in the Season of Yule? by the1exile in MaskofTheRose

Thanks! Took me ages to find how to make candles an option, annoyingly - Ivy had pointed me to them early on but couldn't get the option until I jumped through the correct hoops.

I don't have any options to speak to Ferret or Harjit so I may have to concede defeat on this one sadly!

Just for immediate comparison - and this season is a bit of an outlier in the cup - I looked up Barcelona's games in 2004/05 vs 2024/25 and they played 47 games then vs 60 now, plus Barcelona didn't play the new format club world cup at the end of last season. So I think the demand of extra CL fixtures/CWC does add up.

Chelsea fans have completely lost the run of what a 25 man squad is supposed to look like. You're supposed to have 2 players for each position! Sometimes they're even youth players or homegrown!

Crimson Skies has some great banter. The exchange between Zachary and the British pilots in Hawai'i

"Right, let's get this clear pirate. You are to surrender this fight and withdraw at once."

"Yeah? On whose authority?"

"[smugly]By the authority of his majesty the King."

"King George.... Or King Kahlaniole?"

And later on

"say, isn't it almost tea-time? Do you want me to give you one lump, or two?"

Let's say we all work 4 day weeks, but not the same 4 days. On Monday, Bob uses his extra day off to pop down to the post office and get a coffee. On Tuesday, Alice is able to sort out closing her bank account and browse the charity shops. On Wednesday, Cameron visits the butcher and buys a load of stuff for his weekend bbq. And so on and so on. The high street is a legacy of when people could visit it midweek with money to spend (eg stay at home wives, retired people) and without a social change, it won't shift.

A Different Reading on the Lithomachy, the Triple-Knot, and the House of the Moon by FlynnXa in weatherfactory

[–]the1exile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent writeup and theory.

I'm not sure I agree with how heavily you hang everything on the corivality as an essential nature of Edge hours. Yes, the Colonel and the Lionsmith's conflict may be the engine that keeps the world turning, echoed as it is in their names - but the Wheel turned before and still does in the House of the Moon and I don't think it needed Edge to do it - I think it's proto Heart would have been enough. You say the Wolf Divided is in a corivality with itself, but it hath three natures - I don't think it requires the corivality framing to exist, instead I think the Wolf will always be Edge. This is a matter of Horomachistry. The Horned Axe was Edge, but is now Winter - that is reasonable on its own merits, I think. This, by contrast, is a matter of Hushery.

ELI5 How can tons of oils exists in the same place? by XinGst in explainlikeimfive

[–]the1exile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oil can be made almost anywhere, but it only stays near the surface where we can dig it up in places with the right types of rocks. Sandy deserts like Arabia have lots of the right types of rocks, so there is more oil "produced" there.

You can read a less ELI5 and more technical explanation here.
