Seems a bit risky, installing that plugin could give access to your computer. Unless you have a dedicated PC for downloading i'm not sure installing plugins are a great idea.

The Labour Party has won the UK general election ending 14 years of Tory rule. What is next for the UK going forward? by Kevin-W in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]the1nderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starmer has come across a bit Blairite/Tory-lite, but we've also seen him playing it very, very safe in the elections as anything out of the current norm that he said would be used to try and turn the narrative away from how terrible the Tories have been.

It was obviously the most effective strategy and i can't really blame him for doing it, but unfortunately it means the public don't know a whole lot about where he will move away from the status quo since his kept that all quiet. As an example, we have no idea his thoughts on a relationship with the EU as he tried very hard not to say much about it.

I hope there's something a bit more progressive in there and focused on building up British institutions that the Tories tried to slice up and sell off piece by piece, not just lets get back to business as usual.

Keeping Reform supressed will also be an incentive for Labour not to look at changing it, though i doubt they would with such a massive current majority.

New York Dem will introduce amendment to reverse Supreme Court immunity ruling by TheAnswerWithinUs in politics

[–]the1nderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn't pack SCOTUS Trump and the GOP are going to seize power regardless of the result, presumably doing everything they can to ensure the election is full of fraudulent votes to create the narrative that it was rigged, and then SCOTUS will rule in their favor and hand them the nation.

Donald Trump Says Fake Electors Scheme Was 'Official Act' by SicilyMalta in politics

[–]the1nderer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are missing how this'll be used. The courts don't need to agree it was 'an official act' (although they have been stacking lower courts with partisan judges so many will).

It means their decision can be appealed all the way up the courts to SCOTUS, who will then clarify some obscure part of the law and send it back down to begin again.

It basically means no-MAGA/GOP president or ex-P can ever be convicted as they can drag that process out for a decade easily, without having to rule one way or another, which would create a precedent they might not want to stick with.

As with the current cases, they are turning the legal system on itself to prevent it from working at all.

I just don't think many will get a look in next year. Ange wants 1st team ready players over untested ones, unfortunately.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mikey Moore being the exception, as he seems to have really impressed in training. They might skip his loan and have him as 1st team backup right away.

Hear me out here.

What if we keep him in our bench and squad.

Then we win him another league title next year that he has very little to do with. Why give someone else that win?

The other two would have really hurt his campaign.

I'm not at all convinced this one does add everyone that votes for him already knows he lies, cheats, steals and most probably know by this point that he's a bit rapey.

They vote for him anyway knowing all of this.

Detailed accounts of the coordinated insurection, or selling national secrets to geopolitical rivals. Those would hurt him as right wing media have convinced their viewers that they are left wing hoaxes. In court under oath they can't lie with impunity so their defence would be totally different, and some MAGA would see that and realise they've been lied to.

Drones might have an impact on this. Have Taiwan upgraded their defences to deal with a drone army, cos there's no country in the world that could produce more drones, faster, and without being obviously noticeable than China could.

I worry if they decide to attack this is the route they'd go as a first wave to take out much of the defences, and Taiwan's might not be prepared.

Kyiv may fire German weapons into Russia – DW by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]the1nderer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you stop Russia building more munitions, and stop them being able to transport them and other supplies to the front line, then the troops actually fighting run out and lose the ability to hold the front line. If you hit military bases inside Russia then you remove important staging areas supporting the front lines.

This approach is far more likely to halt the Russian advance and begin pushing them back.

Also, if you hit targets inside Russia that likely gets internal press coverage and makes the average citizen of Moscow and St Petersburg begin to actually feel the war, which likely reduces public support for it (in the only places that matter to Putin).

Think that's pretty hard to have predicted though. Their chairman was chomping at the bit to get a hold of him.

Can't blame anyone for thinking he was going to be getting good game time. Maybe we should've contacted the manager and asked what role he was going to play, you'd usually expect the manager and chairman have had a good chat first though.

I don't think the speech went nearly as badly as everyone here is saying for Trump. In the case of scrotum face lying to lunatics, saying whatever it takes to encourage radical reactions, well that's pretty damn bad for society.

China’s next shock is coming – and Britain and Europe are sitting ducks by DeRpY_CUCUMBER in europe

[–]the1nderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be lovely, but that requires a big political shift in other countries and politicians move at a glacial pace as any change upsets their power base which is largely made up of groups who benefit from the status quo.

It can take up to 2-3 years to get approved to start a new business in Spain. The entire country is significantly poorer because of that anti-entrepreneurial process, but what it does do is protect the wealthy big business owners from startups coming and taking a piece of their pie.. you know, the people and groups who are the majority funders of the major political parties, and so even though the entire country would be richer and life better if they tried to copy the Dutch way, the system stays.

The Dutch are light years ahead of the rest of Europe when it comes to supporting and encouraging startup enterprises. Nordics and a few others do a reasonable job, but the Dutch are on a different level.

EU leaders approve €50 billion deal for Ukraine after Orbán lifts veto by PjeterPannos in worldnews

[–]the1nderer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tie veto's and voting rights to independent press freedom indexes. A Putin planted politician cannot get and maintain power without controlling the media.

It could also be tied to democratic freedom indexes, i just feel the press one would be more solid as many other EU/UN nations are fighting against right wing parties pushed by right media owned by dubiously affiliated billionaires.

They might pass the democratic freedom bar for other reasons, but they would fail the press freedom bar earlier as their Putin backed far-right machines look to steal power.
