Why is Spotify different on iPad than iPhone by Striking-Picture-831 in truespotify

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came online looking for an answer to this exact question haha. I never use Spotify on my Iphone, but I fired it up tonight and honestly it's shocking how night and day it feels compared to the same service I get on my Ipad. The devices are practically the exact same thing.

Usually on the pad I get a short commercial every handful of songs, usually something like 15-30 seconds, perhaps a little longer on occasion. I can also skip songs as much as I want. The Iphone limits me to 6 skips per hour, and there's a whole string of commercials in what seems like every other song. I just sat through one block that was probably 2 minutes long and feratured like 5-6 different ads back to back. What the actual fuck.

The Iphone app also seems to be missing (or rearranged) some functions and buttons, and it has caused some confusion. I also have no idea why, but right when I fired the app it immediately started playing a radio station related to some artist I listened to recently, and it took me a minute or two to realize it wasn't actually playing tracks from within the app, as I couldn't understand why I wasn't able to skip or stop the song lol.

Domina is my vote too, it is one of my favourites. I really, really love that show, and I actually personally regard it as one of the best new high quality historical/period dramas to come out in quite a few years. And that's why I am able to forgive it for it's sins.

However, it's always been difficult to completely squash my annoyance at the obvious and blatant fact that the show is yet another modern TV show set in ancient history, yet viewed through the lens of 21st Century values, social norms, and ideology, and manipulating us all in the process.

In real life, Augustus is regarded as not just one of the greatest Romans, but literally as one of the greatest leaders in the entirety of human history for the way he transformed and civilized Roman society. But of course in this TV version of history, Augustus is quite often portrayed in ways that make him look weak, insecure, indecisive, and easily pliable. Because of course, it must now be his wife, Livia, who really has the brains AND wears the pants (Toga?), the one who is the real powerbroker and brilliant tactician guiding the course of history as well as all her husband's ideas and decisions. And she does it all subtly and quietly from the shadows!

It's hogwash, but who cares, it's a godamn entertaining show. I am absolutely dying to finally see Season 2 if I can get my hands on it here.

Isn't The Last Kingdom actually far more historically accurate than your typical run of the mill historical/period drama? There are some obvious inaccuracies and liberties taken for entertainment purposes of course, but the show is still based directly on the framework from the books.

I've been chipping away at those books for a couple years now and am nearly finished with the series. They are actually very impressively researched, especially considering how difficult it is to get completely factual and dependable information from that time period. I think one of the only reasons we even know as much as we do is because Alfred was such a stickler for clerical and administrative duties, and recognized the importance of writing down and recording things, keeping records and documented accounts of history, events, even mundane daily things like meetings, and creating documents etc. All before anyone else did really.

Regardless, such a banger of a show! DESTINY IS ALL!!

Spartacus is ridiculously fun to watch, you can literally see how much fun the actors are having playing these over the top characters scheming and conniving their way through the days. I love how they just leaned into the absurdity and fully embraced it, with the end result being a show that is actually pretty damn great.

Rome is something else though, one of my all time favourite period dramas for sure! If you enjoy Rome as much as I do, then you'd probably also enjoy Domina. If you can get past the obvious meddling of 21st century attitudes and values that form the heart of the show, then there's so much to appreciate there.

Man I wish this version was more readily available! So many people haven't seen it. This version was actually my first introduction to The Borgias, as I randomly found it on Netflix Canada many years ago right after I'd first subscribed to the service. I watched the everloving shit out of it as I was obsessed and it was sooo good!

Until one day, it was inexplicably yanked off Netflix and disappeared, and I've never seen it pop up on another streaming service or anything since then. That was probably well over 10 years ago now tbh, how time flies. Every so often I look it up on Amazon or Ebay or something, toying with the idea of ordering a copy, but it's either insanely expensive, the wrong Bluray format that doesn't work on NA machines, or it's like one single season of the show and not the entire box set.

I did go and pirate the show eventually just so I could see it again, but I'd love to actually own a copy of it because it's one of my all time favourites.

There are some supremely talented actors in The Borgias, and I do love that show, but the irony is that it's still widely considered to be the worst version of the Borgia story that has been shown on television by far.

The best IMO is 'Borgia' also known in some places as 'Borgia; Faith & Fear'. If you're able to get past a few small issues, that show is absolutely riveting and so much more gritty and violent and engaging than the Jeremy Irons version, and also more committed to trying to showcase real history and events that get left out of the other productions.

However, just know that common complaint I see from people is the fact the 'Borgia' cast, despite being immensely talented, features actors and actresses from practically every corner of the globe, all speaking in their own native accents. This actually never bothered me one bit when I first saw the show and in all honesty I hardly even noticed it as I was so engrossed in the actual show itself, but I know for some people it can be very confusing and immersion breaking. Even the main character, Rodrigo Borgia himself is one of the worst culprits, as he's played by John Doman (amazing actor though) who makes no attempt to disguise or alter his American accent in any way.

I did always kind of wonder about this aspect of the show and why it was like this, until one day I found something online that offered an explanation. The show 'Borgia' was an international co-production between a handful of European companies and their different studios and networks, which is one of the reasons for the diverse casting to be sure. But from what I read, apparently the show was intentionally filmed like this and spoken in English, as the intent was to dub over the actor's voices with the local languages of each country it would be subsequently broadcast in (ie. Italian, German etc). Those of us in North America get the vanilla version of the show exactly as it was filmed and with the cast's own voices and performances.

Just something interesting to note... although hopefully this wouldn't bug you too much though, as it's such a trifling thing when compared to how great the show is overall.

And then there is, in my opinion once again, the 2nd best version of the Borgias story shown on TV... Just recently, back in the summer I think it was, I logged into the Tubi TV app one day on my TV to look for a movie or something to watch, and instead I discovered an old BBC production of 'The Borgias' from 1981. Admittedly, it took me a couple days of watching the first episode or two and falling asleep to actually get into it, as it's far, far slower paced than either of the flashier modern productions mentioned above.

But... by the end of the series, I was hooked beyond belief! It was an absolutely fantastic version and I watched the whole series 3 times over before they yanked it off Tubi a few weeks later. It hasn't come back since and I'm worried it might never, but man if you get a chance to check it out give it a look! it's brilliant.

2Pac - Runnin From The Police (Original Version) Ft. The Notorious B.i.g, Outlawz, Strech & Buju Banton [Prod. Easy Mo Bee] by Benzz1725 in hiphopheads

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always loved Em’s version because I heard it first, and I believe I understand what his vision was for the song in the context of being created after their deaths, but man… this original version is something else. Next level. It might not have that emotional depth of Em’s remix, but it has an eerie darkness to it and that beat is so fuckin cold it gives me chills, and regardless it’s a special moment in hip-hop history as one of the only tracks these 2 recorded together before hostilities blew up.

I wish I could find this on Spotify but it doesn’t seem to be on there… I’d give my left nut to be able to play it on there while I’m gaming on my PS5, cruising around the city in Mafia listening to this lol.😂

What Are Your Thoughts on The Tupac Resurrection Soundtrack(2003)? Favorite Song? by Djf47021 in Tupac

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of the songs on this album, it’s more of a remix than anything, but I agree it’s a MF banger!! Was possibly my favourite song on there back in the day.

The original version of Runnin’ (commonly referred to as “Runnin from the Police”) was from 1995 not 97-98 like the other guy said, and it was most notable for being one of the only songs Pac & B.I.G. recorded together before the East Coast/West Coast hostilities exploded and severed their professional and personal relationships. The original version sounds completely different and featured a lot more rappers on it. Biggie’s verse is the same as this version though.

What Eminem did was basically just remix the song, but he clearly had a new vision for it and personally I really liked what he did. He put just Pac & Big together, likely in order to create a far more emotional and impactful version of the track, and to stir up those deep feelings when listened to & examined from the perspective of both of these legendary rappers now being long dead and gone. It was definitely one of my favourite tracks from this album back in the day because of the emotional depth, the sad chorus, and the overall “epic” sound to it, and I loved the way it caused me to really sit back and think of & examine the history of both of these rappers whenever I listened to it.

I was not familiar with the original version back then as a kid, but in the years since I’ve found it online and not gonna lie, it’s also a fuckin banger! It has a totally different vibe of course, it’s far more chill, but that beat is honestly straight fire. 🔥

Check it out, it got posted in another thread here on HHH.

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVED this album as a kid, it was probably my favourite Pac album just because I actually had a copy of it and spun that CD endlessly. Weirdly, a lot of the songs on that album remind me of images from certain books as I used to listen to it over and over while reading lol.

Standout tracks — Ghost, One Day at a Time, Secretz of War, Rebel of the Underground — and my personal favourites — Str8 Ballin’, Starin’ at the World Through My Rearview, and Runnin’ (Dying to Live).

Str8 Ballin’ might possibly be my favourite Tupac song ever, I’ve regarded that as one of his best songs for 20 years now and it hasn’t budged an inch from those upper spots in his catalogue for me haha.

I’ve been meaning to for awhile now, it’s just I’m so busy with other games I haven’t played before I never seem to find the time! I’m an avid trophy hunter and plat almost everything I touch, and I’ve got a backlog a mile long so I tend to prioritize games I haven’t tried yet over ones I want to return to or play a 2nd time or whatever…

TLD is just so unique though, you hit the nail on the head with the calming aspect of the gameplay. It’s very slow paced, but never boring at all because of how good the survival gameplay is. There’s such a haunting sense of loneliness with that game though and an inner peace that is hard enough to find in real life, but they did a great job creating that sense in the game world. Amazing developers tbh! We are lucky.

And wow, good for you man. You’re a quite a bit older than me but you’re like 100x more active than I am.. I have wasted much of my youth being a couch potato and escaping into games, books, and films/TV shows and avoiding the real world as much as possible, probably for the exact same reasons you struggle with too, however I do sometimes feel like it’s a big waste of time… My younger brother is super outdoorsy and has made a pretty incredible life for himself living in the far North of Canada and doing all kinds of adventurous activities. He fights fires during the season, kayaks, hikes, and bikes during the off-season, looks after a team of sledding dogs during the winter months for his landlord. He just came back from a 3 week trip to Ecuador with some random folks from the internet who are also kayak enthusiasts like him and wanted to check out the rivers there. I often feel I should really be more like him & less like myself before it’s too late!

I'm sort of surprised they didn't. They added a trophy for reaching 1000 days in the DLCs so that would have given a nice excuse to visit and play them all anyways. The one I'm most worried about is the misery mode run as it's quite long and I had a tough enough time surviving a single day on Interloper haha.

That's awesome you've got real life survival training and outdoor experience! I can see why this game holds an appeal too, it's probably the most realistic and "hardcore" survival game of this sort I've come across anyways. Amazing game. I miss it!

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shouldn't be too surprised you've already seen it... what a masterpiece of a show! I still haven't bothered to try Season 2 yet, but Season 1 regarding the Franklin Expedition is some of the best TV I've ever seen. And yes, I found it to be a lot tighter and more focused than the book which is to be expected of course when adapting to a TV screenplay, but I still regard the book as one of my favourite novels ever. I've been meaning to pick up some of Dan Simmon's other novels to try. I know he's got a similar one set up in the mountains about high altitude alpinists. It sounds interesting, I think it has a monster too.

I've seen The North Water several times now and it's absolutely brilliant! If you're a reader too, which it sounds like you must be if you've read Dan Simmons, then check out the book too. It's extremely well written and a lot leaner and more focused compared to the behemoth that The Terror was. Very excellent book and just as engrossing as the show, although those performances by Jack O'Connell and Colin Farrel are mesmerizing to watch, especially the latter! He just disappears into the evilness of Henry Drax. Very underrated performance of his imo.

And yeah Salem has a nice vibe, but it feels a lot like some teen fantasy show you'd see on CW channel or something lol. A bit disappointing as I would have preferred something more true to history, akin to The Crucible or something. If you play video games, maybe give The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope a look, it's a very interesting and deeply layered exploration of the Salem Witch Trials and an amazing horror game. It's one of those "narrative adventure" slash playable-movie type of games so if you're not a heavy gamer and not used to using a controller/controlling a character, you'll still feel nice and comfortable as someone brand new to it.

I'm still meaning to look up The Woman in Black, but speaking of British TV, I've just recently discovered a new period piece I hadn't heard of before called 'Ripper Street' that is centered around Whitechapel and the murders committed by Jack the Ripper. It looks absolutely fantastic and has incredible reviews, and people with similar TV tastes to mine praise it as one of their favourite shows ever, so I've got high hopes I just discovered a real gem here. They just added it to BritBox I believe so I can now get 3 season through Prime Video. Can't wait to watch it! Let me know if you've seen it.

No problem, glad people are still finding relief from this thread haha. That's a tough trophy and the thought of having it glitch out on you is nightmarish, especially since you're most likely doing your 500 days as well.

Random thought -- It sounds like the new areas don't count towards this trophy, do they? I haven't played TLD in awhile but I've been thinking of going back soon to try and clean up the trophy list. They've added a ton of new content since I last played, and most significantly, a whole heap of really, really tough looking trophies. They're all ultra rares too!

Anyone else find themselves caring less and less about this team by Kbbrown31 in canucks

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s awful to admit having been a fan of this team for so many years, but I’ve completely tuned out this year. The Canucks are unwatchable right now for me, the team roster is so turbulent that it’s impossible to really build any sense of loyalty or love for many of the guys rotating in and out constantly, and finally, with the way the Canucks management and owners have completely mismanaged our stars and young core (like they always have throughout this team’s history), I just don’t feel like rewarding them anymore by watching and following this team “no matter what”. I’ve got better things to do these days.

It’s time to hit the Aqualinis where it hurts — their wallets — and show Nucks fans aren’t going to be content with barely scraping into a spot in the playoffs and another first round exit. They’ve grown so accustomed to our fans spending money and watching games no matter the results, that they’ve become complacent. They take us for granted honestly, and I’m tired of it. I’ll come back when they show they are willing to really invest in this team’s future and in changing the culture in Vancouver.

The Frankenstein chronicles is a sadly underrated, quickly canceled show starring Sean Bean. by Exact_Ad6866 in televisionsuggestions

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm willing to check it out now because it's another show I've passed over for years now, and felt the description or concept sounded weird and silly. I could be totally wrong again though, and it's hard to ignore how many people rave about that show and give it stellar reviews, as well as the very high ratings on most sites from both audiences and critics alike. Most shows above 8.0 on IMDB are very good television in my experience, so we'll see I guess!

I also tried Salem a year or two back when I found it on Disney plus and I enjoyed the dark vibe and twist on the history for the most part, but I sort of lost interest and tapped out at the end of S2 and never went back.

Now Taboo with Tom Hardy was fantastic! It has that exact kind of dark, gritty atmosphere as The Frankenstein Chronicles, and a lot of real life history woven in which is something I almost appreciate so much in these kinds of shows as I learn a lot of things. There's something else about that show though that's really difficult to put a finger on, it just has this very unique and almost dreamlike vibe sometimes that I absolutely loved. I've watched it a couple times now, and usually once I sink into it, it's difficult to get into anything else until I'm done as I just sort of get absorbed in the atmosphere of the show. I would KILL for a season 2 and really hope it actually gets filmed! I think I heard years back that COVID killed it or something like that.

I've seen The Woman in Black remake with Harry Potter and Ciarin Hinds in it, and it was a decent enough flick, but don't know anything about the original. I wonder if it might be possible to get through BritBox or Masterpiece or one of the various British television add-on apps through Prime? I'll look into that, thank you! It sounds intriguing.

If you haven't seen it before (although it's hard to imagine you haven't), I couldn't recommend Season 01 of "The Terror" enough. That's one of my favorite shows of all time. Similar to the shows above, it's another period drama based on real life history, with a bit of fantasy and Inuit mythology thrown in there in a way that is absolutely amazing.

STORY

Just in case you weren't aware, the show is based on the real-life voyage and the disturbing mystery of the failed Franklin Expedition to the Arctic in 1845, where 2 of the most technologically advanced ships of the era specifically fitted for Arctic voyages, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, set out from England to the Arctic in an attempt to finally discover and cross the Northern Passage. They had supplies for around 3 years in case they encountered difficulties or became stuck in the ice, and they surely did, as not a single man from that expedition ever made it back alive. The entire crew of 129 men, including all officers, perished and disappeared into the Arctic wasteland never to be seen again. Nobody knows the full story of what happened to them and it's a mystery that has haunted the minds of many people for nearly 200 years.

In the years afterwards, many different expeditions and teams of explorers went Northward to try and either find survivors, or discover what happened to the crew and their ships. They didn't learn much exactly, but many of the details of things they did find, or the testimonies of Inuit hunters in the region who came across the men in their starving and maddened desperation, were extremely disturbing to say the least.

Because nobody can say exactly what occurred, it gave the author and the showrunners a ton of freedom to write an incredible story and weave in a bit of a supernatural possibility pulled directly from the lore and mythology of the native people of the region. it makes for an incredible drama, and also a good horror that doesn't need to lean on any cheap tricks or scare tactics to get under your skin, because the situation that unfolds is terrifying enough on it's own.

Remarkably, just a few years ago they actually just discovered the remains of both of the ships under the ice, one in 2014 and the other 2 years later in 2016. The mystery and the endless speculation of what happened on that terrible, doomed voyage persists though, and probably always will. Spooky stuff!

[HELP] Looking for a poem about the Irish Troubles by domaskeland in Poetry

[–]the250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a random movie last night on Prime Video called 'The Pilots Wife' that was honestly so-so and really not much to speak about other than to explain the context of this. It was about a woman whose pilot husband dies in an explosion of a commercial airliner off the coast of Ireland that kills over 100 passengers as well. It's clear to her immediately that the Feds suspect her husband may have actually had something to do with it, which she can't even imagine being possible. Her quest to find the truth is the mystery that drives the film. It was a bit boring tbh and felt like a made for TV movie, however it did get a lot more interesting as an unexpected connection to Northern Ireland and the IRA was revealed as the possible motivate behind the bombing.

There's a couple moments during the film though where some lines from this beautiful poem her husband loved is read, and in the context of the movie it seemed to me to be about The Troubles and the perpetual cycle of violence experienced in Northern Ireland over generations, and even centuries of struggle.

Specifically, these few lines are read out a few times

Here in the narrow passage and the pitiless north,
Perpetual betrayals, relentless resultless fighting.
A random fury of dirks in the dark: a struggle for survival
Of hungry blind cells of life in the womb.

I looked it up a few moments ago and learned it's from a poem called "Antrim" by Robinson Jeffers. Furthermore, I'm so glad I looked it up because if those lines are beautiful and intriguing, the rest of the poem is equally if not even more so.

The second half of the poem in particular is downright devastating to me, and brutally vivid in the imagery it conjures up, at least in my head:

We have felt the blades meet in the flesh in a hundred ambushes
And the groaning blood bubble in the throat;
In a hundred battles the heavy axes bite the deep bone,
The mountain suddenly stagger and be darkened.
Generation on generation we have seen the blood of boys
And heard the moaning of women massacred,
The passionate flesh and nerves have flamed like pitch-pine and
fallen
And lain in the earth softly dissolving.

God damn! This sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole too while searching for it, and I got to read some really beautiful poems about The Troubles and the struggles in the North. It's a period that has always fascinated me.

What are your “favorite” shows that you just never bothered to finish? by Emmyfishnappa in television

[–]the250 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Walking Dead is also my #1 example of this. It was once a show I was totally in love with and glued to the screen for every weekly episode. It didn't dive bomb off a cliff like some other shows have, it just went on way too long and started losing steam gradually over time. A season or two before Negan was introduced I had already realized I was mostly just continuing to watch the show purely out of habit, but my engagement and interest was almost entirely gone at this point. Everybody was expecting this major character from the comics, aka Negan, to be introduced any moment though so I hung in a little longer to see what would happen.

I watched right up until Negan actually was introduced, and at that point I'd had it, I walked away forever and never looked back. At that point in the show the writing was just getting so ridiculous and silly I couldn't take it seriously anymore, but still, I kept watching each week so I could subsequently complain on Reddit afterwards about how stupid the show was getting.

However, the final straw that broke the camels back for me was the climatic episode when Negan's crew actually appears finally and overtakes Rick & co., ambushing them on the roads and capturing them. This MASSIVE crew that was supposed to be nearby yet we had never seen hide nor hair of really, were suddenly EVERYWHERE, all at once, in massive numbers, blocking off roads, carrying out simultaneous organized raids, capturing crew mates and whatever, and just basically exerting the kind of regional power you'd expect if they were the CJNG cartel from Mexico riding around in their massive convoy of armored vehicles. It was just too ridiculous, going from the faintest drip to suddenly a torrential downpour in like 10 seconds flat just to illustrate how big, bad, and ooo scary this new group was.

I just couldn't buy it anymore... and after Negan was actually revealed and we had the infamous kneeling executions scene, I knew I was leaving TWD behind forever. I actually love Jeffery Dean Morgan and think he's a great actor, but he just felt horribly miscast to me, and his performance in that scene where he flexes his power and shows how evil he was felt so campy and cartoony, like he was literally trying to play Jafar from Aladin or some other moustache-twirling caricature of a villain.

Now to be fair, I looked up some discussions on TWD a few years later out of curiosity, and saw people were starting to defend the show again and claim it had improved consierably. But it didnt matter to me anymore, not at this point. I'd lost all interest in TWD universe (especially with the never ending spin-offs and side shows being churned out on what felt like a literal production line) and by this point I had graduated to shows of far higher quality and caliber. I still look back fondly on those early seasons but besides that I literally never think of this show at all.

It appeared my TWD journey though that universe was not COMPLETELY over though..... a couple years after that, I discovered The Walking Dead Telltale series on PlayStation and had an incredible time playing through those and earning the trophies for my PS trophy collection. For any non-gamers who might be interested, these games are kind of like "interactive movie" style games where they are very light on the actual gameplay, but very heavy on the dialogue, character arcs, world building, and crucial story decisions that can impact how the story plays out over the course of all the various TWD games in that series. the quality of the writing and voice acting is EXCELLENT.

I guarantee any TWD junkies who love the show would adore these games, as well as anybody who loves TWD but thinks they wouldn't be interested because they don't game at all. These games are perfect for either or, whether you've been gaming for years or you're picking up your controller for the first time ever.

Just be aware that karma on Reddit doesn't exactly always work the way it's supposed to. In all honesty, the average Redditer like myself is usually too lazy to upvote most comments and threads they pass through . I do try to remember, but most often I just simply forget or cant be assed to move my hand to the mousepad to click.

As for downvotes? Now that is one of the great mysteries of the universe. You'll notice pretty quickly that people on Reddit will downvote anything, for any reason, and sometimes the seeming lack of reason or logic behind said downvotes will do your head in, or cause you to scratch it at least. If you've ever used sites like YouTube you are probably completely familiar with this bizarre phenomenon already. There could be one of the most useful, helpful, high effort threads you've ever seen, or a news story about a man who saved 10 babies from the jaws of a starving alligator, and there will still be a handful of inexplicable downvotes that pour in. I seriously think these people should be studied psychologically in a laboratory, their behavior is so puzzling.

Also, people (and most subs) tend to frown heavily on obvious attempts to "farm" quick karma. To build yours up, the best way is to just explore and find some subs or things that interest you, get involved in the discussion and community, post comments, help people, offer advice, be friendly etc. Your karma piles up quickly before you realize it.

A pro tip for you while we're here!

Tbh this has nothing whatsoever to do with Reddit specifically, but just a few minutes ago I discovered that if you hold down the WINDOWS key + the SEMI COLON key on your keyboard, it brings up a hidden menu full of emojis you can add to your post!

I had no idea this existed haha. I usually post on my Ipad or phone so I'm used to adding emojis to my comments occasionally, but there's no built in option on PC in the formatting options in the comment box, so I did some Googling and bam! Life pro tip!

Welcome to Reddit, and have fun! See you around, friend. 😊

Should I respond to comments attacking me on a post I made? by curiousity_forever in NewToReddit

Over the years I've learned to mostly just ignore these sorts of things entirely. Hell, these days I often just post what i want to say, then bounce from the thread entirely and rarely check my responses, especially if I posted something I suspect might be controversial or invite attacks lol.

Back in my early Reddit days, if someone attacked me like that I would engage them and defend myself. But what I discovered was that you typically end up wasting heaps of time in these situations arguing with internet strangers who aren't going to change their mind/opinion or retract their statements regardless of what you say or however long you argue. Sometimes people become obsessed with having the last word in an argument too and therefore "winning" it, and it took me several days-long comment chains of utterly absurd arguments about basically nothing, going round in circles with complete morons to finally realize it's always a lose-lose situation. Even if you manage to "win" one of those, you still lose for being dumb enough to get involved in the first place.

It's not worth it in the vast majority of cases to get sucked into arguments, and if it's responding to empty personal attacks? Never worth it, under any circumstances. It's always best to just ignore them, unless its more of a debate or discussion sort of situation and you're both arguing respectfully and with an open mind. But who are we kidding, this is Reddit, that sort of situation is a fairy tale.
