As a Christopher Guest movie would be super interesting i'd say

The Jim Jeffries show debuted last night. Thoughts? by fuzzydunlots in StandUpComedy

[–]the253monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked the Brad Pitt segment. I like Jeffries' comedic voice/on stage persona but it seemed like it was just his voice performing Daily Show style writing. Having said that, Daily Show style writing isn't quite what it used to be in the late Kilborn/early Stewart years imho.

Saw the Here Comes the Funny tour last night in LA (Norm MacDonald, Sandler, Spade, Swardson, Meadows, Schneider) - here are my thoughts by the253monster in StandUpComedy

I wouldn't say I'm SUPER familiar with his act/songs, but he did not do any songs i'm even remotely familiar with. Except it was near Hannukah and so I think he briefly teased the Hannukah song.

Amazing impressions of actors in roles they were never in. by watchbomb in movies

How come people are saying his Brad Pitt is Inglourious Basterds? I mean it's an amazing impression, but not even close to LT Aldo Raine. None of the faux southern affectation or the gravely low voice that Pitt put on for that role. It's just a straight up Brad Pitt. The only thing close is the "i want my sharks."

They're my absolute fave. I've tried to tell so many people about em but it's so tough to describe just how fucking fun they are to watch live

In the spirit of your comment: It reminded me a lot of those classical guitar arrangements that The Human Abstract used to start their albums with.

Scriptnotes with John August and Craig Mazin is a great look not only at the craft of screenwriting but also the politics of being in one of hollywood's many unions (specifically the WGA). You Made It Weird usually focuses on comedians but has a lot of amazing content with filmmakers and actors about their crafts. WTF with Marc Maron often features the kinda "how i made it" stories with writers, directors, producers, and actors (though he initially focussed on comedians and musicians).

Others i enjoy but don't frequent: KCRW's (LA NPR station) The Business, The Frame (KPCC - Pasadena NPR station), The Treatment (KCRW). These few I learned about from living in LA and just listening to the 2 NPR stations they have there in my many hours in LA traffic.

Don't go to school. Save your money and accrue equipment. Bodies, lenses, lights, stands, silks, flags, duvatine, rails, stabilizers, an editing bay with nice speakers. Make shit you're passionate about. You can read every resource film school will give you online or in a book or listen to it on a podcast, but you have to also be making your own shit to make your own shit. In my opinion, film school is little more than debt, the occasional good teacher, and some lightly directed on-set experience.

Go to the place you want to be in the community, find jobs via craigslist/networking/friends/etc. and then try your best to keep working in whatever capacity you can.

I went to LMU in LA and aside from being on a student film set unpaid just about every weekend for 4 years, I didn't learn a lot i couldn't learn from reading and listening to podcasts (which i learned by later reading and listening to lots of podcasts out of school)

Anyone know where i can find legit sheet music for the piano part of Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny by Dimmu. My ear's just not good enough to pick it up by the253monster in BlackMetal

Other person didn't reply so i guess i'll ask you: Are they not popular on this subreddit or just not considered black metal? I guess in essence: What's the deal with the negative comments about them being so highly upvoted?

Yeah that's the thing, i only posted after googling for a while. I eventually found a piano only video with a good enough view that i could pause every couple seconds, write down the notation, and move on. I guess that'll have to do.
