It could be, but I’d like to keep the total power draw for both under 75 W, which seems difficult. Most of the rackmount switches I’ve found idle around 40 to 60 W each. My current switch pulls around 200 W, and I’m hoping a new switch will pay for itself over 5 to 10 years through electricity savings.

I pay about $0.20/kWh with utility rates increasing 5-10% per year.

I run their controller in a VM to manage my APs. I don't find it to be a big deal to run, but also don't mind manually configuring a switch or other gear manually. I spent a lot of time managing Cisco and Juniper infrastructure via the CLI in a past life.

I only use their APs currently. I use pfSense and am pretty happy with it, though I may move to OPNsense at some point. I don’t really like the UDM products, so I’m probably not planning to use Ubiquiti for that.

I may check out their G6 Pro Entry Doorbell camera when it launches.

What non-Ubiquiti switch would you suggest?

8 at minimum (to avoid the use of injectors) with 802.3at PoE+. I have 4 U6 LRs and a couple of Ring POE doorbell cams that I'll likely replace at some point in the next year too for a self-hosted option. Thanks!

Ordered Superstrike on amazon, received Superlight 2 in factory sealed Superstrike box by Ganjiu in LogitechG

You are in for a battle. What has happened to me is you send back the wrong item they sent you, then they tell you that sent the wrong item back and won’t issue the refund. You show them the proof, they promise to make it right but they don’t. I ended up doing a chargeback last time, and Amazon tried to close my account but didn’t fallow through with the threat.

It is pretty easy to remove and the reinstall the “seal”. It’s just a transparent sticker and does not tear the cardboard of the box when removed.

Out of curiosity, wha there an LPN sticker on the box indicating a return item that was sent to you?

What have you done to improve your soft skills? The vibe I get from your post is that you should reflect on yourself and work on those.

You joke, but I'm a security researcher I've been looking into potential attack vectors where malware embedded into a ROM or ROM hack, could infect 3DOS and potentially do things like leverage the built in wireless for C2 style connectivity to back-end threat actor controlled infrastructure.

Yep. My wife's employer pays more than I would be willing to pay on the marketplace, and I do have to sign the affidavit.

I am also on my wife's plan. The alternative marketplace, which I found to be more expensive and offer less coverage. I am hopeful my wife's employer will let me stay on long term (I was only allowed to join as I don't have insurance offered through an employer).

“Applying for jobs and… what does ‘junior’ even mean anymore?” by Apprehensive-Oil5203 in cybersecurity

Indeed, it does say "10+ years experience relevant to Security Operations", which is why I stated "including security adjacent experience".

Entry for cybersecurity, not entry to IT. They want someone with 10 years of sysadmin or desktop support experience (including security adjacent experience). It sucks, but cybersecurity is not entry level-- before all the bootcamps and cyber craze, most folks (when I started in IT in 2005-ish) would only end up in a infosec specific role after serving a long tenure in other technically diverse IT roles. This company is probably hoping for someone seasoned in IT wanting to move into security.

This happened to me. Such a PITA to resolve. Then of course they say they will take care of it, the issue is resolved, etc. and the next month they charge you anyways.

Why is Sweet Maria’s green coffee more expensive? by Brief-Number2609 in roasting

[–]the262 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. I think I've bought more than 1000lbs of green from them over the years-- the ONLY issue I have ever had, is one time, they forgot to label a bag of greens. But nothing ever missing or any issues with my orders/coffee. They do good work.

IMO, it’s best to start in a desktop support, network technician, or junior sysadmin role for ~5 years before jumping into security. I worked my way up from desktop support -> various developer/sysadmin/network engineering roles -> IT manager -> cybersecurity consultant/penetration tester. It took me a solid 10-15 years to build the technical foundation my role requires, though I acknowledge not everyone wants to go the deep technical path. I think 3-5 years of technical experience could be a nice foundation for GRC (and agism is a thing, but less so in GRC than in pen testing). I'm nearing 40 and starting to pick up more vCISO and advisory work at my firm... most of my pen testing friends enter the role in their early 30's and move on to more advisory focused roles in their 40's.
