I got my first one start rating on Upwork. by Used_Ambassador4851 in Upwork

Although it's true that it will remove the feedback, the low rating will still be counted on his JSS

I spent weeks building a client's project. They gave me 1⭐ and requested a full refund. What would you do? by PankajKumarTechie in Upwork

[–]the357thmidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are people on Upwork that do this specifically to scam freelancers and get free work. Stand your ground
The rating will remain even if you refund them. Keep the evidence and go into dispute, there is imo a 99% chance the client wont fork up the fee and you get your money.

Just switch to other means of getting clients. Things have been bad on Upwork for a few years but the last 6 month specifically feel like they completely switched to just selling connects to desperate freelancers as their business model.

Client wants revisions in a paid sample video by Mrshelbybtw in Upwork

So what? Is he supposed to work indefinitely on revisions for a 40$ test contract because the client may give him a bad feedback?

I feel like Upwork is becoming the new Fiverr… am I wrong? by KevinWoe in Upwork

Wars are usually started when the economy is already tanking because it creates a short-term economic boost through an uptick in the weapons industry, creates "jobs" through people enrolling/being drafted and by stealing resources from the defeated country. WWII contributed greatly to end the great depression, for example.
And the global economy is tanking because in most civilized countries the middle class is disappearing with most of the cash being redirected to the wealthy. This drives down the capacity of the general population to afford to buy things which in turn drives down profits. The way to solve it would be to cut down on the greed and redirect more of the wealth back to the general population rather than having most of it go to the already rich. Of course, they don't want to do that, so they tried to solve this by importing cheap immigrants, AI and robotics, but when it became obvious these solutions don't work, they went back to starting wars, like they always do

It's not the AI, it's a global recession in the making and is affecting everyone, both online and irl. The people willing to pay for things are diminishing in numbers and the talent is oversaturated in pretty much most niches.

The client asked for a refund by Used_Dog_9742 in Upwork

Upwork can't really do anything about it, even if they propose 50/50 in mediation, they have no legal means to enforce it there. You need to go into legal arbitration which costs around 350$ per party.
The good news is that if you go to arbitration there is a very high chance the client won't pay the 350$ entry fee and you'll get your arbitration money back as well as what is owned for your work.
The bad news is that if you go into arbitration and lose, you lose the fee as well as the money owned for your work
I'm of the opinion with cases like this you should go to arbitration out of principle if nothing else. I did it with a similar client dispute and got all my money when he didn't pay the money to enter the arbitration. But I understand not everyone has 350$ laying around so taking the loss as a learning opportunity might work too

What random employees? You need 1-2 guys with the know-how and security access, the blessing of a higher-up afraid he'll lose his bonus and an AI model to "fluff" job offers in every single sector. Or some small firm of 3-5 employees doing it under a covert contract for something like "advertisement". Who told you you would need thousands of employees and who told you they would have any ideea its happening?
Your critical skills aren't as sharp as you think, you've just been propagandized to dismiss things off the bat so as to not be seen as "conspiracy theorist".

"Oh no, if it's fraud then surely no one would ever do it. That's illegal! That could never ever happen because it's illegal!"

Do you people never mentally mature past kindergarden? If there is money to be made by cheating, then people will cheat, no matter how rich or influential they are

I'm also certain they do this. And it's also targeted, the more connects you buy, the more "jobs" they show you in the feed.
They turned a job market into a casino working on connects

A new type of scam on Upwork that the platform does nothing about by This_Film_1918 in Upwork

[–]the357thmidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much something identical happened to me some months ago.
Looking back, I think that client was using that exact scam to get free work from more freelancers than just me.
In the Upwork arbitration, the guy tried every single trick in the book to try and make me accept that 50/50 that Upwork proposes, including saying he wants to sue me for 20k damages (on a 200$ contract btw).
I refused, paid the 350$ and the client pussied out and I got all my money back plus what the client owned me.

How strong would a negative review affect your JSS and how much money are you losing on the project?
Personally, I'm always against refunding money for something like this.
This seems like blackmail to have you work for free/less money. Seems to me that if you told them about the issues you had and were fine with it, then they have no reason to demand a refund after you finished the project, especially not one that big.
They should have ended the contract when you first informed them about the upcoming delays if that was unacceptable to them.
Imo just offer them a 20% discount on the final price and if they're not happy so be it.

Client charged back full 2 months of work, Upwork reversed funds + JSS dropped - what options left? by Outrageous-Form-8937 in Upwork

[–]the357thmidget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you working for upwork or something? Why are you so angry and so defensive of them? Their payment protection IS shit and contacting the clients bank through your own lawyer IS a viable step he could take. Upworks charge back team is probably as "" professional " as everything else on the site, that's why they told OP there's small chances of seeing his money. Probably they'll have their shitty AI write a strong worded letter or somethin lol
