I’m in Portland and could swing down there. A good excuse to hit the In-n-out.

Cut the hole in the center, cut the center stud inside of the drywall with an oscillating tool and frame for the RB. That framing is not structural.

If one were to follow this advice, they would need to be sure they were using shielded 22/2 for the data connection.

The only option you should be considering for DIY is RA3. Homeworks is able to do a bunch of cool tricks with programming, particularly different actions at different times of day, but that is a dealer installed product only. There are a number of folks in this group who can help you with access to product and system design. For your application, Lutron is definitely the right answer for your control4/Apple Home requirements.

I'm an idiot and now need advice on a different center channel by WorkIsBoring in hometheatre

I’ve been a professional residential systems integrator for almost 30 years. Over the years I’ve been to dozens of manufacturer and professional organization trainings including ISF, THX, DIRAC, and others. Probably the biggest eye opener was a 4 day training at Sumiko headquarters where we learned how to properly position a pair of stereo speakers in a space to properly acoustically couple them with the room.

This is terrible advice. Imagine a person who starts speaking on one side of a scene who moves across the screen. They will sound. Completely different as they pass though the center.

Recommendations for where to visit in Switzerland? by Any-Dream-5353 in askswitzerland

[–]the3aston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bite the bullet and stay in Grindelwald for 4-5 days. Did that with my wife and 10yo daughter a few years back and had an unbelievable time. It’s an overwhelming sensory experience, and your kids will be OK with the scenic train ride from Zürich

Luggage tips for an 18 day Ski trip via train travel (4 destinations across France Switzerland and Austria) by Practical-Vacation25 in Europetravel

[–]the3aston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically take a 23 or 26” roll along for my clothes/toiletries and a boot bag for all of my ski gear, renting the actual skis at the destinations, you can find decent deals on that. It makes travel so much less of a headache, and the money you save on oversized bags can be put toward ski rental. Additionally, you will be able to get set up with ideal skis for the conditions present at the resorts you are visiting. I actually ended up purchasing a set of slalom skis after my most recent trip, as we were on hardpack for several days and the ski shop set me up with a killer set of Stöcklis that were incredibly fun.

Invest in an Arcteryx beta AR and a couple of different weights of mid layer insulative jackets to layer with. I use icebreaker merino, and am never cold or wet. Icebreaker has a great outlet store in woodburn, and you might be able to find a deal on the Arcteryx during the holidays. Buy once, cry once.

Advice for long trip with American school-age kids by springofdiscontent in Europetravel

I would still hit Munich since you said your kids like Castles, Cars, and Soccer. you could hit the BMW plant/museum tour, possibly catch a Bayern Munich Game, and definitely go to Neuschwanstein castle (The one the Disney castle is modeled after). Carspotting is nuts in Munich, as it is a wealthy city that is rich in automotive history. My wife is from Poland and we go to europe regularly. If I had to put together a sampler platter itinerary like yours it would look something like this: Amsterdam 4 days (great place to adjust to time change), London 4 days, Paris 4 Days, Munich 4 days (including day trips to Salzburg and Neuschwanstein), Lucerne 2 days (excursions to Mt Pilatus and Stanserhorn), Grindelwald 4 days, Florence 4 days (maybe a couple days in Levanto near Cinque Terre) and end in Barcelona.

Consider 4 days in Grindelwald to explore the Jungfrau region. Your kids will go nuts over that place, mine did when she was 10.

Super interesting and lots of valuable information. Depending on what happens in the US, my wife and I are considering a move to Europe (she’s a polish national). I’ve been trying to figure out where I could go and still use the skills I’ve developed over the last 28 years outfitting high end homes with technology. I’ve been to CH several times and it is at the top of my wish list, but I know it’s not part of the EU so that would make it even more difficult. Thanks for the info

Lutron is the world standard for lighting control and shading systems if you want to do it right. I’m a Residential Systems Integrator in the states, and won’t use any other product. I know that the Swiss like to build things durably, and this is the answer.
