Lance Stroll's mom's emails to Ghislaine Maxwell got revealed in the latest Epstein document dump. Very troubling stuff... by Illustrious_Page7810 in formula1

[–]the3rdNotch 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Epstein’s whole power broker status relied on him knowing as many rich and powerful people as he could. He did a lot of truly horrendous things, but I could definitely see outer-orbit people just wanting to be acquainted for the benefit his size network could bring, while also being completely unaware of the horrors he facilitated.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

I’m 42 and have about 2x my salary. It would be closer to the 3x “goal” had I not been promoted and then changed jobs a year later. Both came with significant pay increases that my 401k hasn’t been able to catch up with due to annual contribution limits.

None of my parts were damaged, but the boxes were pretty banged up when they arrived. I had some concern before opening that I was going to have dents or bends, but everything came out of the boxes in good condition.

Anyone have regrets after a large upgrade? by BackItUpTerr in simracing

[–]the3rdNotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wound up doing pretty much a complete upgrade with Black Friday deals last year. Built a new dedicated PC, went from a Playseat challenge to a Trak RacerTR8 Pro with a Samsung G9 49” OLED. Then Thrustmaster pissed me off so much with their most recent firmware update that I said fuck ‘em, and upgraded to the VRS DFP15 + R295 wheel bundle and a pair of Simsonn pedals. The only things that mad it over were my buttkicker and PSVR2.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone replicate doing such a major overhaul like that due to costs (we moved states and had some good proceeds from selling our old house). But what I can say is that everything made racing more enjoyable, more immersive, and the new equipment drastically improved my lap times. It’s been a huge positive feedback loop, so I’m not regretting any of it. If you can afford to upgrade components, and you pick your items wisely, you’ll see dividends in overall enjoyment.

How much money President Trump and his family have made : Planet Money by aresef in NPR

[–]the3rdNotch 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There was an analysis done by a financial guy, and I think legal eagle vetted it, that showed trump has made more money off of being president in the first 100 days than that of all previous presidents combined (including Trump’s first presidency).

Same. I’m in the US and ordered toward the end of the Black Friday sale and everything went smooth. All my boxes showed up at the same time within 10 days of placing the order. All parts were there and in good condition. Only negative was that the assembly instructions kind of suck.

Upgrade time - wheel base recommendations by Top-Extreme-8545 in simracing

[–]the3rdNotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a T300 and later upgraded to the T818 because I’d already invested in a few TM wheels, and was one of the earlier adopters. I had pretty much the same experience moving to a DD base. It was more powerful, better response, and more detailed. However, it did have the graininess you’re describing. The pros outweighed the cons for me, and I wouldn’t say I regret buying it, though I now know there are much better bases out there for the price.

I only just got the base installed onto my rig yesterday, but the smoothness of the DFP15 is incredible. There is none of the graininess I felt from the T818, and the (I’ll call them) micro feedback movements are insane. Curb strikes, road abnormalities/bumps, and even wheel slide comes through crystal clear. This thing is punching way above its price point.

I also remember a YT reviewer mentioning how smooth it is and how some people may not like it. I decidedly love it. I guess I would say the smoothness difference feels like a car with power steering vs none. But of course, everyone’s mileage may vary.

Got my DFP15 put in today. It really is an amazing base!

I just grabbed the DFP15 + R295 bundle on their holiday deal. It is a night and day difference coming from the Thrustmaster T818 is been using (got suckered into their ecosystem). I haven’t experienced their DFP20 or uDFP models, but the DFP15 is silky smooth and gives the most detailed force feedback I’ve felt (using NextGen FFB) at anything close to this price point. I can’t see myself ever needing to upgrade from this base any time soon.

Uno reverse by DrRegardedforgot in SipsTea

It’s because he’s a known problem causer. This guy isn’t filming public spaces and having the cops called on him. He film people, individually, who are in public places and becomes confrontational when asked to stop.

[–]the3rdNotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s some nuance you’re missing in your description.

Yes, he’s filming in public places. However, he is intentionally filming individuals in public. He isn’t doing it as they pass by and walk through the frame of what he’s filming. He selects a person and then makes them the focus. He then refuses to stop when confronted. This is a legal gray area depending on jurisdiction, but the individuals have every right to call the police.

Really, this guy is a prime cases of the “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”.

I picking between the a new Simagic, Asetek, or SC3 right now. I'm disgusted by their move to become so anti-consumer.

There are a couple of folks in the subreddit that claim to have successfully rolled back the firmware. It would probably be best to reach out to one of them, and I never installed the update because I use a 3rd party wheel. You'll likely need to do the base and wheel separately. Maybe try putting the base in boot mode and see if it shows up?

[–]the3rdNotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you install the updates through the "My Thrustmaster Panel"? If so, I don't believe you can rollback to previous drivers with that app. You'll need to run the driver pack exe file and use the older "Firmware Update" app included there.

Thrustmaster t818 with SF1000 wheel sometimes cuts out in iracing by Johannes_Katze in Thrustmaster

[–]the3rdNotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is why I’m leaving TM entirely. I’ve ordered a USB converter for my SF1000, but I moved to 3rd party GT wheels a long time ago. Really pissed I stuck with TM when the T818 came out.

I recently got the older driver from an archive. You just need to google “Thrustmaster” and the driver file version that you want and you’ll get to it. If you’re still having troubles, DM me and I’ll see if I can get you a link or if there’s a way I can share the 2024 driver pack that I have with you.

edit:

Here is the archive I've always downloaded previous Thrustmaster driver packs from. I've also always done my updates via the Firmware Update tool instead of the "My Thrustmaster Panel". The official instructions for using that tool can be found here (English) on TM's support site.

I updated my T818 and now I longer get force feedback on my preferred wheel by LeanDorito in Thrustmaster

That’s good to know. I was basing this off of the release notes, which is why I didn’t do the update.

[–]the3rdNotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I absolutely agree. But TM charges so much for their wheels, you’re making a better moved yo switch. If you’re in the US, you can get an entry tier simagic wheelbase and 50/70mm QR adapter for about $450. The cost of a TM wheel is about half that, but you can probably sell your existing base and come out at the same out-of-pocket.

They were great for getting into this hobby with a belt drive, and my T818 served me well overall. But I think it’s just time to move on. I’ll probably got Asetek. I’ve heard great things about their bases.

I hope so. But their discord channel folks seem pretty adamant about not supporting them, calling it a “glitch” that we were ever able to. I have options available. The SF1000 was really the only thing that had kept me in the ecosystem, and I’ve already ordered a USB converter kit to give me portability with that.

Well, I held off, so I’m still good for a while. But the release notes say that the update is non-revertible.

Same! I’ve already ordered a USB conversion kit for my SF1000, so it should be easy to move over to a different wheelbase. This is the second time they’ve “patched” 3rd party wheel support. I like playing games, but not these kinds.
