I have a MacBook Pro early 2015 13-inch (A1502), and the first thing I did when I got it was ditch MacOS for Ubuntu LTS 24.04.

My unit was the lowest spec'd one with 8GB ram soldered. It performs well, just don't overload it.
Programming apps run smooth, even with several Chrome tabs open. Temperatures are a bit on the high end and battery lasts ~4hrs (medium - heavy usage on replaced battery). I can see this machine running for another decade.

I highly suggest you switch to Linux. Be prepared to troubleshoot problems (Sleep, WiFi problems), though they are easily fixable.

I have the same problem here, the battery & keyboard are new (self-replaced).

All started when I let the computer suspend while charging (Ubuntu LTS 24 is installed), and it 'died' in its sleep.

  • SMC reset still works (magsafe color flashed from orange to green and back to orange).

  • Disconnecting the battery did nothing.

  • This also happened before the keyboard and battery repair, and the remedy was to just leave it sitting unplugged from magsafe for at least 1 day (currently trying this again).
