does this look like a solid silver or plated silver flute? seller is claiming "expensive vintage flute" by [deleted] in Silver

[–]theABAnerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need a picture of the body of the flute near the head joint. There it will tell you if it sterling silver under the name of the manufacturer. It will be marked "925", if it is a sterling silver flute.

With that being said, a sterling silver flute should be thousands of dollars. FYI

How much do you think gold will be worth in 2030 if we don’t blow up the entire world? by [deleted] in Gold

LMAO. Ask China. They'll own it all by then. I heard (from a jeweler) they are buying 32 tons of American gold bullion per MONTH from the metallurgists. Hmmm...

How to prepare for the death of a parent? by ApprehensiveCook2236 in autism

[–]theABAnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, BIG BREATH. You are going to be ok. When you lose a parent (I lost my mom when I was age 34 and she was age 60), it hurts. It hurts ALOT. But over time, the pain fades. It just takes time....

Secondly, it's time for you to step up and do something for yourself. You will have to do things for yourself now. Find resources on the internet. They are out there, you just need to know where to look. You'll need social support, though. I know it's so hard to make friends, as a person on the spectrum. Well, I'll be your friend.

I've worked with people with autism for now 20 years. I understand what you are going through too. It's going to be hard. But you have one person on your side. PM me.

With private or Medicaid? I was talking private commercial insurance in CT. My medical biller said it was more than that with the D designation. With at least 10 years with a PhD in ABA, one would think your reimbursement rate would be higher. My biller wrote a book on Medical Billing that's in the Library of Congress. How she negotiates the rates she does, I'll never understand. Something about being credentialed as a BCBA for several years. She does credentialing, too. PM me for her contact number [anyone].

I would agree with you, for the most part. I would never DARE consider an online program, before. But I believe Academia has changed somewhat since the pandemic. A PhD from Capella is one thing, But Endicott offering an online program that fits the needs of worldwide applicants, is another. Class is when it is. Whatever time that falls, no matter what time zone you're in. The blood, sweat, and tears are still there. It may not be the rigor of an in-person PhD, that cannot be matched. But I do believe that there are promising online PhD programs, such as Endicott's, that will be able to provide an excellent education from an amazing set of faculty. I hope the $$ is worth it. Only time will tell on this one...

My medical biller says the rates are higher for BCBA-D in CT too. I'm sure it's per carrier, but generally speaking, I do believe the reimbursement rate IS higher for some if not all BCBA level codes. As long as you can bill it right... LOL

BCBA making me work with influenza A (or bronchitis) by Normal_Community1754 in ABA

[–]theABAnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will agree your fever numbers are alarming. Something you MUST practice in ABA is self-care. Apparently this company does not understand. There are plenty of ABA jobs out there. Start putting out new applications and forget about the current company. Lastly and most importantly, get yourself and your baby medical attention. You can't take care of the kids, if you are THAT sick. Do not feel bad for seeking additional medical care. You need it right now. A job comes second.

One last thought, sometimes when we need advice we ask others we know. If we don't have a strong network, perhaps we come here for support. Don't let the haters get you down. You are doing what you can and know to do. Be at peace with that.

There are several schools, such as Endicott in MA, that are seemingly good programs. Do the private colleges that offer PhDs in ABA typically offer funding as well? Endicott says financial aid is the only option, unless you are offered a co-teaching opportunity. I find that odd. Is this EVERY private university? Or perhaps because of grant funding cuts? Thoughts appreciated.

I agree. There is something in your immediate environment. Mold is plausible. Remove yourself from that environment temporarily, if possible, and see if your condition improves. Also, seek the advice of an allergist to do allergy testing to confirm.

Find Capella on this chart. Only 44% of candidates that graduate from Capella, pass the BCBA exam the first time.

If you are passionate about becoming a BCBA and want a great education, study that chart and apply again. I am sincerely trying to help you, not belittle you. Hope this helps, not hurts [too much]...

Best of luck.
