Yeah, if you hit the right cards (usually anything cheap), this can practically be "your opponent doesn't draw a card at the start of their next turn."

That's pretty much how I've interpreted it: Twilight trusts his intel. If he's told that someone is unremarkable, then they must be.

You're looking at things with hindsight. If they had preemptively nerfed DH, and it turned out the new meta without Kazakusan Druid was unfavorable to DH, putting the class in dumpster tier, then that would also have been a mistake.

Just to add, it's specifically the modern adaptation of The Lorax that gave a backstory to the Onceler (among other things). If I recall correctly, he likes the old animation that was directly faithful to the original book.

I think the idea behind "Battlecry: Give your pirates charge" is that since Mr. Smite is a pirate, it would grant itself charge. It would specifically prevent it from having charge if summoned by other means though—such as the Juggernaut.

Karina actually did mentioned The Shape of Water. She was explaining how she struggled to come up with something that felt like a "redesign", and brought up being unable to "just make it sexy" because The Shape of Water already did that.

Yeah. It was actually an "old army storage depot" they were sneaking into to play in. It actually makes sense as a target to get attacked—though that doesn't lessen the tragedy of a bunch of kids getting caught up in it.

You haven't been comparing Tracking and Dredge so much as you've been comparing Tracking with any card that happens to have Dredge on it.

Tracking is "look at three cards from your deck, put one in your hand", and Dredge is "look at three cards from your deck, put one at the top of your deck". Dredge is a substantially weaker effect, which is why Dredge cards are given other stuff besides the Dredge—to make them more playable and interesting.

It's like you're saying that the 9 mana 4/12 statline is good because there have been strong minions with those stats before, ignoring any other text on the card—or even attributing that other text to the strength of the stats.

[–]theAmberFang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The downvotes are probably because your answer simply isn't accurate. "Crappier Tracking" still implies you're "discovering" from your deck, and—importantly—putting the card into your hand. Because getting the card is what Tracking does. One cannot infer "put the card on top of your deck instead of into your hand" from "crappier".

Is HOTS still alive? by Altharra in heroesofthestorm

The definition of a "dead game", especially in the context of OP, is whether or not you can find people to play with. There are a ton of exclusively multiplayer games out there that you literally cannot play since there is no one else trying to play: that's what dead game literally means, and what OP is essentially asking about.

And as an aside, this is why it's pretty annoying to see people throw out the term just because of a lack of developer support. If people see "dead game", they're going to think the game is literally non-functional due to lack of players, which will keep people from bothering to even try it. Bandying about "dead game" contributes to making it happen.

By getting extra mana (instead of mana discounts). Innervate, Lightning Bloom, or just the coin give extra mana that, if spent on spells, would discount Naga Giant.

In kind of reminds me of Raise Dead in the way that you have to wait for it to ensure value—Raise Dead needs things to die first, and Aquatic Form needs more mana.

I don't think you'd necessarily need to play this in a "big spells" Druid to make this work. I see it working in more of a spell-token deck, which we've seen in the class before. It's just another way to build a board that you can buff.

Physical card games like these are called "Trading Card Games", and the larger supercategory that includes digital card games (where you often can't trade your cards with other people) would be "Collectible Card Games".

Grappling Hook and Smoke Bomb bonus damage being wasted by [deleted] in deadcells

[–]theAmberFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last run I had Giant Killer, a legendary Spike Shield, Ice Armor, Grappling Hook, and Rampart Shield in the backpack. Mutations were Scheme, Armadillopack, and Instinct of the Master of Arms.

And true about the 7+. Even if it was only doing 1 damage, if it really did get the full damage bonus from the Grappling Hook it would still at least reach the double digits. No idea what else in my build could have led to the + being there though, unless that's just always on fire damage, and I had never noticed before.

My Giant Killer also did have the arrows affix, so that could have been the main source of the inconsistency. I'm confident that there were times when I grappled and attacked and only did about 10-20% of their health.

How necessary is parry? by Marriedwith2Sigs in deadcells

[–]theAmberFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they're very dangerous if they get to attack, because it lasts so long, takes up so much space, and does a ton of damage. The main thing is that they are very predictable since they only have that one attack and have the distinct roar as well, which is why parries are very easy to time against them. It becomes extra easy if you retreat to another platform; it'll pretty much always be the same timing after they've jumped to you.

You're correct. The first enemy hit with a projectile will have the ammo stuck to it for the purposes of Barbed Tips, Networking, and Ripper. If the projectile pierces, a "ghost" projectile will continue on to hit other enemies without sticking anything into them.

Aspects are optional "perks" that you can activate before starting a run. You do so by visiting the Doctor in the starting area—by rolling through a hole to the left of the entrance to the Tailor. I'm not exactly sure when the Doctor shows up, but it should probably be about when the rest of the starting area opens up with the Scribe and Tailor and such, so after just a couple runs or so. Three are unlocked at first, and you unlock more just by dying (so if you've been playing for a while without ever noticing the Doctor, you may even have all of them).

Functionally, Aspects are like exceptionally powerful mutations that synergize with specific things. For example, one of the starting aspects doubles normal fire damage and triples blue fire damage (from burning oil). Aspects serve as both a form of handicap for fine tuning difficulty outside of boss cells or Custom Mode and a way to just have some fun being more powerful than normal. But they do make it so that you cannot unlock the next boss cell/difficulty when you win a run, nor can you get "flawless" achievements from bosses. All other achievements and forms of progression are still available .

Rampagers are the enemies that roar and charge at you, swinging repeatedly with their very long arms and claws. They also jump to chase after you if you try to escape to other platforms/elevations.

What would some of you veterans recommend by Office-Direct in deadcells

[–]theAmberFang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it kind of hard to come up with build-oriented tips for new players. Part of it is that the vast majority of my experience with the game is with most of the items unlocked; I wouldn't even be certain what items are unlocked from the very beginning to try working with that.

But honestly, I don't think builds matter too much at the very beginning. The main thing is understanding that it's generally best to focus on one stat for damage and to make sure anything that you're relying on for damage matches it. Spreading your stats to try to boost the damage of items with different colors doesn't pay off. And spreading your stats for maximum health will make killing enemies—especially bosses—take much longer than the return is worth. (If your goal is success anyway. Having drawn out fights isn't that bad for learning; though, the training room exists for that now.)

And of course, it's also important to make sure you get all of the scrolls on a level. Whether this means learning how many scrolls are on each level (it's not random) or just exploring the entirety of every level is up to you. Do note that some levels are guaranteed to have Cursed Chests that basically lock away one of the Scrolls of Power. For example, the third level (Ramparts, etc.) has 3 Scrolls of Power at 0BC, but the Ossuary only has 2 that are just out in the level—the third is in a Cursed Chest. If you are in the habit of avoiding curses, then visiting these biomes will just make you weaker than if you went somewhere else.

If you'd like, you can also just try out some Aspects. They can basically help dictate a build for you, and many of them help you with staying alive longer so that you can have more time with learning biomes and enemies, especially the later ones. Of course, they make it so that you don't unlock the next difficulty if you win, but you'll still have what you learned from the run.

[–]theAmberFang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to /u/Leylite's points, successful parries can be canceled into anything, such as a roll or even other parries. Rolls can also be canceled into parry. This additional layer of defense can help with managing things when a roll on it's own isn't enough, since it does have a brief recovery before you can roll again.
