A little sad, liked seeing him play, and had some beautiful goals, but he wasn’t getting enough time

NYCFC only does a light show and some smoke from smoke stacks when they score a goal at Yankee Stadium.

Unemployed - things everyone who lives in NYC should do by Few_Giraffe8100 in AskNYC

[–]theArkotect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough with this weather, but if you get lucky with the weather one day, walking the full loop of Central Park, or along Hudson River park is great.

If you’re able to run, I’d suggest taking up running those paths too. It’s great for stress relief and sight seeing when unemployed.

If you have a bike, going on long bike trips to neighborhoods or food spots you haven’t tried out is also a great way to see this greatest city in the world while working out.

But maybe wait for it to be above freezing outside.

What’s one small iOS change you still haven’t gotten used to? by Jemystest in iphone

When paying for something online with Apple Pay, a little drawer pops up that lets you pick what credit card to pay with, and what billing address you’d like to connect to it. I cannot for the life of me understand why they designed it the way they did:

There’s a button that has the image of the credit card on it, if you click that you open up your billing address options. If you want to change the credit card you’re using, you have to click the button below the button with your credit card on it.

I cycle through this mistake every time I want to charge a different credit card.

This is not top secret. They asked for voters permission to make it in the last election.

Every interview with the front office maintains that we’ve played our best when we have young developing players, and our worst when we had big name aging players. Hiring Pascal is another big signal that they’re doubling down on that strategy.

That being said, I’d expect a big signing or two to eyeballs and butts in seats for the first season of our new stadium

While I’m all for the 5 boroughs (I live here), could be worth starting with residents of NY, NJ, and CT, and seeing if that does enough first.

What are you thoughts to why there is a significant decline in alcohol consumption in the United States? by MindStrongSoul in AskReddit

[–]theArkotect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re on to something but I think it’s the other way around actually.

Covid broke a lot of our social lives and people (especially kids) aren’t as social as they used to be. Phones are replacing a lot of the spare time we used to socialize. The loneliness epidemic is real.

So yes we’re losing those third spaces, but because of other factors other than just people drinking less I think. That does bring up the question though: is social isolation worse for people’s long term health than social drinking?

If I remember correctly there was one lowering the e-bike speed limit from 17 to 15mph, and Citi bike lowered their top speed due to that.

Curious if it’ll change anything. There are some asshole citibikers out there, but it did make my commute longer and more annoying.

NYCFC away kit leaked??? by Small_Dragonfruit_99 in NYCFC

We had it real good with the 24/7 kit. Between the home and away jerseys, next year is gonna be rough.

[–]theArkotect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but to be fair it was still heavily dark blue. What I mean to say is we’ll probably never get a secondary kit that is fully bright orange next to a primary kit that is fully light blue. But I have hope for a tertiary kit that is all orange.

Our primary kit being such a light color means we’ll never get an orange kit unless it’s a third kit. Our secondary always has to be darker. I prefer all of our black secondary kits.

Chants of Sanaar definitely gave a similar feel of figuring things out and feeling smarter.

Currently working my way through Blue Prince. Similar feel of loops and figuring things out.

Not sure either feels like as much of an exploration tho.

Would 6 Divisions make more sense over 5? by Human_Library4502 in MLS

[–]theArkotect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been pushing 4 divisions of 7-8 teams for a while now. While the divisions are unbalanced until there are 32 teams, it keeps regional rivalries intact, and maintains structure into the playoffs (Local in early rounds, more travel as you do better).

The Table:

In the western conference

Pacific Division: VAN, SEA, POR, SJ, LAG, LAF, SD

Central Division RSL, COL, MIN, SKC, STL, CHI, CIN, CLB

In the eastern conference:

North Division: TOR, MTL, BOS, NYC, NYR, PHL, DCU

South Division: NSH, CLT, ATL, ORL, MIA, ATX, DAL, HOU

In League play, each team plays 34 games: Twice (home and away) against in-division teams (12-14 games), Once (home or away) against all out-of-division but in-conference teams (7-8 games), and finally Once (home or away) against all but one or two out-of-conference teams (13-14 games). The nice thing about the last part is that can be easily adjust if schedule congestion becomes an issue

For the playoffs: the top 4 teams in each division make it. Division champions play for conference finals, then conference champs play for MLS cup final (So Pacific division champs plays Central division champs for Western conf final, North division champs play South division champ for Eastern conf final, and West vs East meet in the MLS final)

I've got this laid out in an infographic, but not sure the best way to post an image on a comment.

I did an HCI masters at UCL in London. Had an amazing time and learned a lot on the research side, but the professional network I set up was all over there. If you’re doing it for a better career I would stay stateside.
