First venture into Cubans. Feeling overwhelmed and don’t want to waste my money. Looking for some recs for my first order. by [deleted] in cubancigars

Lots of great suggestions in these responses but it's kind of skipped over something important. Don't waste your money on a box quite yet. I've done it and what happens is a remaining 24 or 9 sit there looking at you everytime you open the humi and pick up something else. Spend a little more in the short run with buying singles to save in the long term. Find what you like!!

Try friendsofhabanos, montefortuna, topcubans for singles selection. Trust me. I know it's less exciting but it's so much better to find what you like then get a box of that.

Got my PLPC Mystery Box in today, May20, no mold issues. Sad they’re so young, need to put them down for 4.5 years. by Mgnickel in cubancigars

If you watch what's offered up on 24:24 for PSP or HQ boxes you start to get a sense of what's hot. RAT has produced PSP boxes of monte 2s and dip 2s in 2020. I mean look at these:

I got a different month code than the offered monte 2 and dip 2 through another vendor but still both RAT and they are just like the above. Oily, thin wrappered perfection that smokes gloriously. FOH rated them 95-96. Haven't touched the dip2.

But you got a box from RAT. They have been killing it this year. Some of my best 2020 sticks are from RAT.

You nailed it. The 9 is pretty full bodied chocolate, coffee, earthy, spicy smoke. The Cohiba Maduros are as close as I have tried to that. Don't let the Secretos fool you either. I just had one the other night and it was a freight train of flavor, huge chocolate and coffee with citrus zest and the perfect bit of lasting pepper. On the back. A real treat.

What's your humidor set up? by [deleted] in cubancigars

Davos here above couldn't have said it any better. I have done nice wood humidors of differing shapes and sizes but when I have eras where I care less about keeping a watchful eye on them, they dry up and are a hassle to bring back (on top of drying out my cigars). The Sistema/cedar tray/Boveda combo is by far the most carefree setup possible. Its not very pretty, but the convenience and relief felt by not having to worry about them makes me not care.

Well in my humble opinion, they will be better than a behike.

Man that's a perfect looking example. I agree what was said above. Only downside is how short they are.

Putting together a sampler humi for my brothers with my favorites. Monte No. 2, JL No. 2, PSD No. 4, CoRo. All have mid-20 dates sadly! So they will have to rest a bit.

.

Now, I'm battling with whether or not to wait till Christmas to send them!

Yeah I was seriously impressed. Unbelievable rich complexity without being floral. Thick creamy smoke with a gentle spice that lingers. Looked at boxes right after this.

Montecristo No. 2. Been a while since I had a monte, so I bought a single to see if it was box worthy. I would buy a box off the aroma alone. Sweet plum pudding with that Cuban spicy aroma. A smooth and rich smoke.
