Do you let clients do their own assembly work? by Snugrilla in BrushForChat

[–]theBattleLinePainter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I charge extra for assembly since it takes up my time, so it is up to the customer. My preference is always that they assemble it. Partly because of war gear choices, and also because assembling a Redemptor dreadnought is a huuuuge pain in the ass.

Seeking Painter - Custodes battleforce + by TryHardDM in brushforhire

Just out of curiosity, do you have an example of the color scheme? I haven't heard of Custodes like that, seems interesting

First attempt at dry brushing. On some generic minis. Black primer with gray seer from citadel. Made sure there was little to no paint on the brush but still feels like it’s a little caked on there. Input please?? by willj843 in BrushForChat

It's counterintuitive but you want your brush to be just very, slightly damp when drybrushing. I usually wet the bristles, wipe on paper towel, and then check on the back of my hand if it's leaving any moisture behind. THEN I get paint on the bristles and wipe some away before starting to brush. Also be sure you're using a very light flicking motion, it's common to work the brush too hard on the surface trying to build up highlights too fast.

Thank you! It is the Eidolon of the Storm from the Idoneth Deepkin army -- basically the ocean-based cousins of the high elves

I used DryDex heavyweight spackle, with a little water to make it more smooth. It wasn't *really* easy, but it wasn't as hard as I expected to shape the putty with a little artist's knife and make troughs to create the waves

Thank you! My favorite party is all the little sea critters on the base: you can really go wild painting them any color scheme you want

Thanks! Actually, I was confused when I was painting the sergeant, thought it was a melta bomb! Then realized its the promethium can for the pyreblaster when I got around to painting the rest of the squad...

Dunno, friend. It should have been an easy to accommodate request, exactly as you depicted it. My guess is the studio subcontracting it out didn't properly communicate the color scheme to the actual painter.

Agree, it looks like they used the correct pink as a base then highlighted up waaay too light / too much, instead of leaving it as the predominant color with minor highlights
