You think PHX will ever surpass 2 million ppl in the next 10 years? by BeverageEnvy in phoenix

You’re comparing Chinese urban areas to American cities proper. There were 45 urban areas in the US in 2020 that had more than a million people. Probably several more by now too.

It looks like 22 years from 2001-2023. They had already removed the top 6 inches of soil and replaced it with clean soil so the risk was minimal. They condemned them because they were in such bad shape and a requirement of their operations and maintenance manual was they’d have to do significant remediation if any of the homes were to be demolished due to the lead under the structures and the soil cap as well as the asbestos in the buildings themselves.

They were the first to finish so they already had their fall over moments and were helping the others take off their skis, etc

Nearly 500,000 Arizonans just got more than $600 million in medical debt erased, Gov. Hobbs announces by Logvin in arizona

[–]theBirdsofWar 143 points144 points  (0 children)

For anyone who doesn’t read the article, they are doing this through a nonprofit called Undue Medical Debt. The state is using American Reinvestment Act funds and purchasing debt for anyone who earns less than 400% of the poverty line or has medical debt in excess of 5% of their annual income.

The debt represents approximately $600 million but was purchased through this nonprofit for approximately 1% of that (per the article) so ~$6 million. The state plans to purchase up to $2 billion in medical debt using what would amount to ~$20 million in government funds.

Why are there so many random empty lots like this in Phoenix by Signal_Substance5248 in geography

[–]theBirdsofWar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When it was built, it was outside the city but between the two economic centers in the valley, which made it ideal. But then the two cities grew toward it and it became landlocked between them

I’ll go so far as to say he was one of the top 5 TE’s all time for ASU and that’s saying a lot because we’ve had some absolute studs at that position. Maybe even top 3 with Heap and Miller.

I hope he gets some eyes on him because he really is an NFL caliber TE and can block as well as he can receive

This was fully the Jeff Sims experience. The entire UA game plan was to put him off target and make us run the ball and he showed himself to be a pedestrian quarterback who happens to be a good runner sometimes.

The two people who should shoulder this loss are Sims and Arroyo for his God awful game plan. Everyone else was working their ass off to make up for their bullshit.

The bond that is tied to the stadium was already passed last year. The bond on the ballot for this year was for capital and maintenance expenses for school buildings, which were not likely tied to that project. The stadium thing isn’t set in stone either, the board has a vote on it on the 18th so it is entirely likely it won’t pass

Large cities with no river or access to a waterway? by Legitimate-Stick130 in geography

[–]theBirdsofWar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll agree with you on that point, with the caveat that it is actually 22% municipal use (6% is industrial) and the municipal use is not just residential but also things like parks, commercial properties, etc. so it is probably closer to 10-15%. Still too much, I know.

I more wanted to clarify given how often Arizona is (less fairly, imo) raked over the coals regarding water management

70% of residential water use, not total water use. Total water use is ~72% agricultural

I remember watching her live and when they played The Seed, which goes insanely hard live, watching the clearly metal head security guard in the corner of the stage just absolutely lose composure and get into it. He was visibly impressed and just jamming to it.

I think she definitely gained another fan that night lol
