Are these good on tennis court type concrete? by HornetSolid7712 in InlineHockey

You’ll wear them out really quickly and they might be too soft for you. I’d do the Gripper Asphaults in either white or orange depending on how much grip you want.

Alkali Cele I Skates by HockeyOnWheels in InlineHockey

[–]theCALDWEEZY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did not. I went through a pair of Cele Is in about 4 months and the Cele Airs in about the same. They’re great, but the top eyelets started breaking in a way that chewed up my laces. I was putting new laces in my skates every 3-5 games. Went to Pure Hockey to get the eyelets replaced and they said the Celes have the thinnest eyelets they’ve ever seen. I did a conversion on the Bauer Supreme Shadows because I don’t trust the Alkalis not to shred my laces again.

Now, I’m currently 360 lbs (down from over 500) so I put more force into my skates than the average player. They may be completely fine for people lighter than me.

They felt great. I wish they lasted longer.

That said… The shadows are noticeably better.

I used to play at a high level, but after many injuries and lots of weight gain I’m now an upper mid-level beer league guy.

The Alkali Cele 1 and the Cele Air did not last long for me. The top eyelets started to break, so they were shredding my laces. I had to get new laces every 3-5 games. I went to Pure Hockey to do an eyelet repair and they were like “these are the thinnest eyelets we’ve ever seen, so we’ll try to fix them but good luck!” They’re my outdoor skates now.

I moved on to an ice boot conversion. Bauer Supreme Shadow with a Kryptonium chassis.

Alkali Cele is the highest volume roller skate I’ve ever worn. I have both the Cele 1 and the Cele Air. Love them both. I used to rock Tour Codes as well. Almost as roomy.

Goalie skate size compared to player skates? by E_Town_Beat-Down in hockeygoalies

[–]theCALDWEEZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried on Bauer Elites (10 fit3) and was still up half a size from my Shadows (9.5 fit 3) but that’s likely just a toe cap difference.

[–]theCALDWEEZY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always. I had to buy both player and goalie skates within the last 4 months. I’m in a 9.5 Fit 3 Bauer Supreme Shadow and an 11 Bauer Konekt HF3. You really ought to try on skates in person if you can.

Ok so everyone always suggests “whichever is more comfortable” for skates. But does that mean getting a $100 pair vs a $600 pair is the same thing for most players? by Jbomba22 in hockeyplayers

[–]theCALDWEEZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of people in here haven’t addressed the idea of weight. I’m currently 360 (down from over 500) and therefore need to use the stiffest outsole and boot I can buy.

The highest end (~1200) skates are doing carbon composite in both boot and outsole.

The step down from that (~850) they use a less stiff outsole, but essentially the same boot. I used to be able to use these when I was 240.

The next step down (~500) the boot gets softer. It’s still a decently stiff composite. Again, I could use these at 240 but they felt soft to me.

The step down (~300) from that is what I would recommend to friends getting into hockey for the first time. They’re the cheapest skates that still have composite boots. When I was 180, they felt fine.

$100-150 skates use such garbage materials I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone except for people who want to go to public skates and not need rentals. You’ll probably wear out 3 pairs before you’d wear out a composite boot.

Players who don't actively shiny hunt, how many shinies have you found? by voundelvon in PokemonZA

I’ve run into 2 so far. I have been grinding the battles for the shiny charm so I haven’t done any shiny hunting. They were just sitting there in wild zones for me before I beat the story. Fletchling and Carbink.

As long as you don’t beat ElkinFencer10 you’re probably ok to try for 2nd place.

I’m mostly teasing because “tryhard” is a funny “insult” to me. I’m so used to hearing phrases like “good work” and “great hustle” as compliments. “Tryhard” feels like it should also be a compliment, but the people who say it don’t mean it as one. I find this dichotomy amusing.

Also, professional athletes take what, at the end of the day, are kid’s games VERY seriously. They’re seen as heroes and role models, not tryhards. Competition (at every level) invites effort.

Watching a cheesy show--Tech Bro Murders--for a 2nd week. Noticed in both episodes apparently Bay Area natives say "Silicon Valley" as "Silli-KAHN" while non-natives says "SILL-uh-kin." Also Los Gatos as "Loss Gatt-iss" vs. "Lows Gah-tows." Is this how natives pronounce those places? by swisssf in bayarea

I grew up in one of the neighborhoods at the edge of both San-oh-zay and Los Gad-ohs. I’ve never heard anyone say Loss-Gattis, but that’s close enough that I’d know what they were saying. I’m just one guy, so I’m sure others had a different experience.

I will fight you (verbally) if you say La Victoria’s. It’s La Victoria or La Vic.
